It is NOT an upgrade to the Vulture, and I"d argue its an upgraded Vulture instead. Though In reallity, the do compete. Its not Tedious. after a bit of time with ti, I find it a better salvage ship than the Vulture. Frankly, I feel you were a bit Salty, and I'd take a guess its due to the state of the game being in such crapy shape, but don't take that out on the ship...

Upgraded vulture that scrapes at half the speed and is harder to max the cargo capacity? Idk maybe you're just biased towards misc or against drake? Which is fine but you have to explain if you actually think it's better than a Vulture.

While I agree on much of the criticism of the Fortune, primarily the lazy reuse of an existing ship, I am not opposed to the idea of different ships that do the same task more or less efficiently. Ships should not all be equivalents of each other for any given purpose. That said, the pricing should reflect something meaningful. Like aesthetics; a sense of luxury and meticulous, flowing design like Origin ships or a downright practical, industrial design like Drake. Or efficieny. Or stability, survivability, firepower, utility etc. These things should all impact price. Problem here is that the price is the same as the Vulture. Vulture is clearly superior here. It really isn't very hard to go stack the boxes in the back. It's just a better salvage ship, and looks the part too. The fortune should be a $100 ship IMO. But if we're being honest, the Vulture maybe should only have one salvage head too. It is a bit too easy to make money with the Vulture compared to almost anything else in the game.
@Space-Tech2 күн бұрын
Yup, I absolutely want similar ships that fulfill the same role with just slight advantages in either direction. What is not fun is when 2 ships are the same price and one is just better in almost every conceivable way

'We want mid sized salvager' - CIG 'you will get a totally pointless smaller salvage ship' - 1xs1 salvager head, totally, utterly, pointless. Part of salvage is taking cargo and weapons, where you gonna put the s5 weapons?

I am loving the fortune so far. I have a vulture as well. I prefer the fortune. It's not one thing, it's an overall nicer experience to me. The ladder inside couldn't be more annoying in the vulture. I absolutely love the Fortune. I am a bit disappointed that there's not 2 buffers each with 13 scu to hold, but it's fine. All I do is salvage and bounties, and there's definitely pros and cons of both. For once, it really is a matter of preference between two ships. You can salvage slower with the Fortune, but you have more space for extra stuff like storing weapons without sacrificing your cargo hold, vs the vulture that has to have the entire hold used for cargo. No ladders or a bunch of doors to interact with, less hassle when it comes to cargo management, and I like the look more. Still getting 35+scu on both, so the money is roughly the same.

Ok, so what I'm really curious about is the times. If I'm only using cargo grid, how long does it take each ship to get up to 12 scu of scraping. Maybe 20 (I'm not gonna do that trying to stuff the ship thing). If I could get average timings for those I could get a better feel for how these ships really compare.

12 SCU on each cargo grid would make this thing awesome and a great trade off with the vulture.
@corwyncorey37032 күн бұрын
The idea is different ships within the same role and pricing being offered that do the same job slightly differently. That allows for people with different priorities and gameplay styles to make their own choices. Like how car manufacturers all offer compact cars, hatchbacks, SUVs, sedans etc. all at similar price points, I predict that ship manufacturers in SC will be doing the same. Every new ship should *not* make a new "meta" in the game, but rather provide options that suit more people's styles more specifically through minor variations. As an example, this ship may not be as easy for a solo pilot to overstuff as the Vulture, but it is *far* superior for those who do multi crew multi ship methods unloading full ships into a mothership and continuing to work, or for those who do not off-grid load at all. *My* best method isn't *your* methodology necessarily, and the fact that this ship caters to one style over another actually makes sense. Excellent design goals, and moderately well achieved.
@Space-Tech2 күн бұрын
I 100% agree that we want ships in the same role and price doing the job differently. The example of cars is a common one that I myself use to describe what I hope to see. What doesn't make sense is that the vulture so clearly does almost everything better than this ship. In multi ship scenarios, your haulers spend less time just waiting around doing nothing because of the double speed with which a Vulture can actually create the RMC. The 10 seconds faster you can unload 6 crates from the side of the ship is nothing compared to 1. The 20+ you can pull from one spot on the vulture. Remember the hauler won't be able to pull more than 12 from one side of the Fortune. 2. The literally 200% speed at which the Vulture can prepare another haul of cargo. This point is even more relevant because the amount of time it takes to produce 30+ boxes of RMC is an order of magnitude more than it would take to unload either ship. Changing the scraper to a size 2 on the fortune would do exactly what we both want to see, give the fortune a niche that doesn't make it objectively better or worse than the vulture. Even making it 12 SCU per side would be a great way to differentiate the Fortune.
@corwyncorey37032 күн бұрын
@@Space-Tech I can see a few scenarios that it surpasss the Vulture: When scraping bigger ships, it takes time. The automated side storage means that with dedicated box movers th scrapers never need to stop scraping as others take care of unloading as you work. On a darker note one "plus" of having your cargo out in public view means a level of safety from *some* pirates (as opposed to the kill em all asshats) since they will *know* you aren't worth chasing/killing. And lastly *some* players are in the "it's not a Drake so I'm IN" crowd, lol.
@ianmcintosh4182 күн бұрын
All of this is true and is trumped by one fact: It is small. Small enough to fit into the Polaris with room to spare for another ship to park next to it, or a number of parasite fighters, Argo tractor etc... It is also a really useful support ship for ground combat - since the external cargo grid lets you easily drop off people and boxes for looting corpses. It even has a tractor for moving stuff around. Its a real jewel small support craft for ships with internal hangar space. I already have two org members that have bought one after seeing how useful it is in the parasite support ship role, with the added advantage of having an on-board salvage ship to clean up the wrecks the Polaris leaves behind.
@Space-Tech2 күн бұрын
100% it's really awesome as a parasite craft, no doubt about it. It's obvious that that is not the primary use case for salvagers though which is the lens I was using for this video. For your use case though this seems absolutely perfect
@ianmcintosh4182 күн бұрын
@Space-Tech my guess is for it's stated role, we are looking at a true NPC ship. This thing removes all the complexity from salvage in a Vulture , making it relatively easy to program the AI loops for NPC ship salvaging. A great way to create NPC "krill" for pirates to feed off, and an easy to spawn ship to go around cleaning up wrecks and abandoned ships.
@Scenethroughalens3 күн бұрын
There are three situations where the fortune is better than the vulture. 1) You want to carry it aboard another ship 2) group salvage with a hauler, esoecially when the hauler has a ship tractor, such as zeus cl or taurus. The hauler can just sit above them pulling the rmc off as it gets spat out 3) for those people that hate drake or love misc
@Space-Tech3 күн бұрын
Strong agree with 1 and 3. For number 2 the vulture can just scrape with its rear open and it'll actually be easier for the hauler since it will only be on one side AND the vulture will be able to scrape twice as quick, therefor effectively doubling the efficiency of a fortune + hauler
@Scenethroughalens3 күн бұрын
@Space-Tech Except you would need to be lined up behind each vulture, whereas the angles from which you could see the fortune:s RMC would be much wider, or simply ask the pilot to roll. I could see two or three fortunes picking away at a carcass while a Taurus sits above, both standing guard as well as tractoring the RMC as it gets spat out
@commanderroddi77423 күн бұрын
I'd take the fortune over the vulture. I probably wouldn't bother trying to stuff every little cubby with salvage (Don't do that on the vulture either, so, not having to go down the ladder, eject the box, place it on the grid, then go back up, etc, its.... Yeah, FOrtune wins for me. EDIT: AFTER spending time with Fortune, it ccan carry more cargo, intgernally and externally, than Vulture, it has longer range so it can Salvage Longer than Vulture, and the process of Salvaging on this ship becomes more Zen. I think it is a better ship than the Vulture, but that is my subjective opinion; I see how many will prefer the Drake ship over the MISC ship (dut to speed, looks, firepower, which is similar, etc). Myself, I'll stick with the Fortune, mainly because I tend to favor MISC design aesthetics, and the cockpit is GREAT! Also, I am not one to Pack a Vulture Crazy full of RMC and stuff, so VUlture is good for me. Cant wait for other MISC ships with a Gold passs.

The Fortune is smaller then the vulture should fit in or on more ships
@StrikerWolf913 күн бұрын
I have never been able to get 40 SCU in the Vulture, so that is a non-issue... Not to mention that with the Vulture there are a lot of times when one of the salvage heads doesn't even salvage because it is not aligned to the panel/hull, so the Fortune is better in that regard too. The fact that I can activate the auto eject feature on both dispensers and never have to get up while salvaging is a huge plus, because I can fill the 12 SCU Cargo and 13 SCU buffer and go somewhere safe to unload if solo. The 4 SCU of cargo space being used for extra salvage is situational, and while viable, is not necessary or even a deal-breaker. I definitely agree about the price points and the criticism that the design feels lazy. Was really hoping that the exterior cargo grid could double-stack (12 per side), but oh well...

And what if I don't want to use every square millimeter of space on my ship for boxes? 😆 The Fortune will let you do 25 boxes without getting out of the pilot seat. 12 cargo grid and 13 in the hopper. Then you go unload. Unloading and turnaround time could be quicker than all the tedious stuffing of boxes into the hallway you so inelegantly demonstrated. 😆

I think if you have a hull A following you the misc ship is the better option than the drake since they can just pluck them off the side as you go. doing the same thing with the vulture is alot more tedious. My mate and i had been doing this with the vulture where he would follow me with the Hull and park behind me at panels and toss the boxes out the back as we when then when i finished he'd pop them on his ship when i moved to the next set of panels. this fortune means he no longer needs to come on board to do the same thing. but even when the liberator becomes a thing i think this ship will be even better to work with it than the vulture no having to open the ship up is such a better way of doing it. Edit: so long winded but point is pure solo vulture better ship duo/small team fortune seems the better option.
@Zorbis13373 күн бұрын
If you click auto when you start you don't even need to get up and you get 27 without leaving your seat. I found 38 to be the sweet spot if you don't mind getting up once, 12 on sides + 13 hopper + 2 stuck, 3 in front of the back door 8 on the lift no doors. ... I was able to fit 55 once but the doors are just a pain, takes too much time. The speed of scraping.., not twice as long but I definitely feel it.

I hate sitting around waiting for the hopper to dump boxes. And now that Pyro is here the fact that i can scrape and go is great. All that getting up, going down a ladder, glitching going up the ladder again, then unloading is for the birds. 😂

If this had a size 2 abrade then maybe, but 1x size 1 is terrible. I love the look and the interior and the external cargo, etc but I'll stick with my Vulture. I'd maybe upgrade if the abrade was size 2 just for a smaller ship and make quick runs of 29 scu, but I can quickly and easily enough do a Vulture run with 37-40 (depending on my mood lol). As for those saying team gameplay, well still take 2 of these plus a Polaris with at least a small crew and you may as well just all load up into a Reclaimer and be more productive. This is just for solo small salvaging runs for starters or those who don't care about min/max, or those who hate Drake aesthetics lol. That or the price needs to be much lower and not the same as the Vulture, way too expensive imo.

I have a reclaimer so I don't need any of these two but, I kinda hate dealing with the cramped space of the Vulture. So when I use one, I fill it with the box on the grid, then I fill the machine and go sell. So, the idea of doing the thing with this one and NOT having to deal with moving any box in a cramped space makes me love this one more but the fact it has just one salvage arm is bad (Cause I even think the two from the Vulture feel slow after getting used to the Reclaimer Massive arms.)

Plan to mess with her this week but one feature I like besides the auto load and that the rear elevator has a cargo grid for salvaged components that is separate from the scu RMC grid. So I can now pull components and guns without losing the space in like my rear Vulture bay. This will make a sweet ride for Pyro clusters where I am pulling drugs out and them salvaging the wrecks. Since I don't need to move my scu boxes I am in the pilot seat the whole time to bug out when I see a threat. But let's see how it goes - be curious how much stealth she can get too with the right parts installed. Be the "Ghost Scrapper"
@varthelm3 күн бұрын
I can't see a point for this. Even if I was just going to use the grid, I can salvage twice as fast for the cost of having to stack the first dozen myself in a dedicated interior space vs the Fortune auto stacking the first dozen for me. If I go off the grid to hold more, its not even a question..Vulture all the way. Agree with the conclusion that if it were priced significantly less, then maybe. Also, there's the unfortunate name. I swear I thought they were trolling us with MIS(C) Fortune at first
@eavdmeer3 күн бұрын
It should have double salvage heads and double stacked cargo grid for 24 SCU external storage. Then maybe it could be priced similarly to the vulture. Not that I'd ever buy either with real money. 170 is absurd
@stopmotion45353 күн бұрын
I think you missed that the Fortune is better for group opps where you have multiple salvage ships moving boxes to a dedicated transport ship. It's external auto-generating boxes are far more convenient for continually moving into a transport ship as you go. But that's a tiny edge case at the moment. Almost no-one operates like that as you only do it if you have a salvage team too large for a reclaimer.
@urfork13 күн бұрын
and its still less efficient because you can just open the back of your vulture and have people grab from one single location, while scraping twice as fast, so the vulture still wins on that front.

@solidicone3 күн бұрын
I get your point but I also don't think you've considered another point. The fortune is better for organized org logistics. If you run a salvage operation with an org and have 3 fortunes working with a central cargo ship. The auto ejecting feature reduces downtime of the ship after its been offloaded. You go fill up, print the boxes.. go fill up again. Go back to your cargo ship drop off point for your group, the cargo ship guy grabs the boxes and since you've got them set to auto eject there isn't even a need for the pilot to land. The cargo moves itself as the cargo guys grabs it. We ran a test of a group size of 8. We had 3 fortunes and a cargo team of 5 working out of polaris in the halo belt. We went for three hours using fortunes. We then did another three hours using vultures. The run with the fortune had 30% less downtime with the ships at the drop off points. My point is that either ship is going to be fine, they both do the same thing but the fortune favors group play more than the vulture does. But it doesn't matter as the differences are so minor that its irrelevant. Its literally a selection of what flavor you want because outside of that saying the fortune is "bettter" or "worse' is entirely in the eye of the beholder and the context in which they play. The fortune is a fine ship. Will more then be able to serve every single need that the vulture does.

Really appreciate you sharing your experience here. If you had 8 people, however, you would have been far better serviced with 3-5 people in a reclaimer and the rest providing either combat/scout/tractor beam support. Those size 2 scrapers on the reclaimer are a huge difference maker when it comes to scrape rate and I'm positive you would have ended up with more scrap per hour. That's not to say there's never a time for a Polaris escort, which feels awesome by itself haha. Thanks again for the insight
