I was in my last year of college and a recruiter from General Dynamics came to our little college and interview several of us seniors in the mechanical engineering group for jobs in the electric boat division of General Dynamics. Two weeks later before I graduated I had a job at General Dynamics. In 1988 I started working on the Seawolf project. The SSN21 was the first Sub General Dynamics built completely on computers. There were no drafting accepted. Alot of drawings that were drafted were completely redrawed by non engineer's. I unfortunately didn't work there long. For some reason they combined the Atlanta office where I worked and the Tampa office together. I was offered a job in Tampa but it was strictly a lateral move. No raise, promotion or money to move. My last day was May 1, 1991. I found out about two years later. General Dynamics closed the Tampa office and moved everyone that would go to Groton, CT. Man I love Atlanta, Groton just sounds cold. Plus Atlanta area is home to me.

@@yztiffitzy6132 , there are such things as cruise missiles ! . . . Armed with conventional & nuclear warheads ! . . . @@pedrosalazar1936 Now, maybe. But back when it was designed, I doubt that the Russian have this intention in mind. Before the gulf war, cruise missiles were almost nonexistence. Thus, the Akula class was definitely not built with nuclear weapon capability in mind. Add on later, maybe, but not it's original purpose.

@@jeanboseau9249 Nimitz class aircraft carriers are still up to date and effective, ain't they? A military system can be upgraded, and that's precisely what's happening right now to this class, and the updated Soviet era S-200 Syrian SAM shooting down an Israeli therefore perfectly up-to-date F-16 proves this approach relevance. One must also consider the fact that a well used "outdated" technology gives better results than a poorly used edge one, just remember about the Swordfishes making it possible for the Royal Navy to sink the Bismarck, or the Emirates' Mirage 2000-9 shooting down a F-22 during a red flag exercise, not to be confused with the French Rafale doing the same. There's also for any kind of system an absolute maximum defined by the laws of physics and the environment. For submarines, and particularly SLBMs, the most important factor is acoustic discretion. This class was designed to be as silent as the ocean's background noise. So, less effective than a whole new class, yes, that's precisely why the French 3rd gen. SLBMs program is already on its way. But truly outdated? Hell no!

Hello and happy day: I inform you: The submarine Aras San Juan of Argentina was sunk on 11/15/2017 at 7:30 am by another Chinese submarine that was in espionage work and the Aras San Juan was pierced by Chinese submarine firing torpedoes at them and could not dodge it. The sinking of Russia's oscar-class submarine K-141 Kursk is the best known and remembered to date and was sunk on 08/12/2000 by another Russian submarine as they wanted to desert their crew and request political asylum and of course the Russian submarine K-141 KURS was refloated some time later but did not have a happy ending like the submarine in the movie The Hunt for Red October made and filmed in Hollywood and starring actors Thomas Sean Connery and Alexander Rae "Alec" Baldwin III. The American nuclear-powered submarines and all loaded with several missiles with nuclear warheads or warheads each of them, which are: 1) USS Thresher "SSN-593" and loaded with missiles with nuclear warheads and on April 10, 1963 wrecked or sunk, 2) The submarine USS Scorpion "SSN589" and sank on May 21, 1968. Other submarines of the Soviet Union with nuclear propulsion and loaded with missiles with nuclear warhead or warhead and these are apart from the K-141 Kurs previously commented, the following: 1) The submarine K-27 project 645 and sunk in 1979, 2) Submarine K-8 November class was sunk on April 12, 1970 and is the greatest radioactive threat in the world, 3) Submarine K- 129 with diesel propulsion- electric but loaded with nuclear weapons and sank on March 8, 1968, 4) Submarine K-278 Komsomolets and was sunk on April 7, 1989, 5) Submarine K-159 November class and was sunk on August 30, 2003 . On 03/08/2014, due to the supposed error of the impact of an Iranian missile "as the guy on the 8th of the Mexican comic program would say * It was unintentionally wanting to *" that blew up MALAYSIA Airlines flight 370 MH370 / MAS370 full of passengers with pure international scientists who were going to give a conference and news about the vaccine and cure of some cancer and AIDS "as I affirm or confess on 06/16/2020 Donald John Trump President of the USA" and they were also going to warn of the possible pandemic such as covid-19. The transatlantic ship RMS Titanic did not sink as a result of the collision with an iceberg but by a torpedo fired by a German submarine that was on espionage. In the world today in the 21st century there are more than 130 lost or lost bombs, nuclear or atomic warhead missiles and this loss is due to the sinking or destruction of ships, airplanes, or submarines around the world. In this world things or events do NOT happen by mere chance but by a true cause and effect that will never tell us their truth and if they will always distort it. Very well researched and presented.... but only one thing puzzles me..yes you talk about the various submarines .costs.etc.butmentioning the weapons they carry with their specifications..like power / range of those weapons etc.. aren't these facts highly confidential..???.. even from a layman's perspective find that puzzling....anyways thanks for sharing...!!!

Most of the video used for the Seawolf was actually an Ohio. The sail is different.
@dundonrl6 жыл бұрын
The early video of the Seawolf was of the Seawolf, the later could have been early Los Angeles class SSNs, but some definitely were Ohio class.

I noticed that as well, he made a mistake.

There is so much incorrect about your statement, outside the sail being different.

Curious why some of our oder SSBN's didn't make the list? I would have expected them to be more expensive than some of the modern diesels, in adjusted dollar values. In particular, the Lafayette and Maddison classes. our "41 for freedom" ballistic missile subs were one of the key platforms of the Cold War. I did many patrols on the USS Daniel Webster (SSBN 626). It was a fine machine. Far better duty than on those cramped 688's.

Why does the Seawolf as a shown have two forward sail configurations? The first has a curved-forward edge where it meets the hull. the other is a sharp vertical where it joins the hull? Are there two-sub type classes of seawolf?
@adamriffe35205 жыл бұрын
The curved forward edge of the sail is only on the Seawolfs and Virginia's

Curious why you say that. Submarines give the US a strategic advantage in so many ways. The US Navy has never had a nuclear related incident/accident. An impeccable safety record that no other platform can claim.
@robertweinstein64416 жыл бұрын
If I mistook you comment I apologize. I heard so many comments from CND IN THE 80’s, while serving on submarine, similar in nature to the one you made. I spent 39 years either riding or working on the navy’s submarines. I think you can guess my allegiance from that.

+David Sullivan What about the USS Thresher that lies at tho bottom of the atlantic inside the gulf stream? In case the reactor breaks it will release tons of ionizing radiation into the gulf stream which would be a major catastrophe. What about USS Scorpion which had loaded two additional nuclear torpedos? It will be a massive danger to the environment for ages. What about USS Puffer and USS Dace? Both of them released nuclear contaminated water into the environment.

Ohio class submarines are NOT "one-thousand three hundred and sixty centimeters long, with a diameter of 210 centimeters." That's just 45 feet long and 7 feet wide. The actual length as reported by Wikipedia is 560 feet (170 meters), with a beam of 42 feet (13 m).
