I like the idea, except I'd like to see them work together for an "ultimate" type of dish. They each split up and have certain tasks to accomplish and then meet up to cook together. We've had loads of battles, but it feels like the only time they team up is when they pass it on (my favorite format) and even then they're not cooking "together".

One thing I've been playing with over the past few years is switching up roux by manipulating what fat goes in at what ratios. I've discovered that you can use the schmaltz you skim off the top of a batch of chicken stock, freeze it in tablespoon pats to keep it from going rancid, and then use it in roux to make the most chicken-y chicken gravy ever. You thaw a tablespoon of the schmaltz, brown a tablespoon of butter over low heat, stir in 2 tablespoons of flour to that, then add in the schmaltz. • You *_need_* to do it in this order to keep the protein in the schmaltz from forming a caramel that glues itself to the pan and burns. Found that out the hard way. • Once all the fat is combined and the flour is just cooked out, add your homemade chicken stock along with an extra hit of rosemary, marjoram, thyme, salt, & pepper. Simmer until it's thick enough and serve. Perfect over potatoes of any kind, over chicken, toast, or the rolls we Americans call biscuits. If you want, you can, of course, throw in some sauteed mushrooms and onions for even more flavor. Not strictly necessary in this case, but very nice all the same.

Ebbers I mix grilled chicken with mandarins over a baby spinch. Top with a balsamic vinaigrette, and you can add nuts or seeds if you like. It's something really simple, but it does make a nice quick lunch or light dinner. The mandarins add a bit of a fresh zing. 🙂

I love to watch the 'cook from a chef's fridge' series!..as a 'twist' would you perhaps consider 'cooking from Nature's harvest'? ... As a child ..decades ago now! ...Mum would buy meat once a week ...but on a Sunday we would go foraging as a family. Depending on the time of year we would gather nettles(cook like spinach) ...wild strawberries/black berries/elderberries...maybe elderflowers (dipped in light batter and deep-fried!) ... chestnuts ... and strictly 'unofficially' there was a chap in the area who would come round selling us fresh rabbit (honest, he promised us, they just hopped in front of the car!!!..Almost suicidal they were!!!!)...extra meat for us those weeks!!!!...I'd really enjoy seeing the chefs coming up with delicious uses for 'free' food!
