@@elliotlindstrom6259 that's what I've been hearing. My friend is an Audi mechanic. He's been saying these newer S4's/S4's with the turbo V6 are pretty reliable. And they still have great performance, with a lot of tuning potential

@@KZbinpoiuytre The later models came with a supercharger not a turbo and the timing chain is more of a problem on the older b7 s4s. It can fail but its rare actually. Carbon build up is a thing for all fsi engines, even the inline 4s in Golf Rs suffer from it. Sound alone beats any v6...

The Audi 4.2 is perhaps one of the best engines to come out of Germany in the last 20 years(the MB M156 being the other). And the mechanic is right. The newer 4.0T is FAST, but it has many internal problems that can add to some serious money needing to be spent. Nothing like a naturally-aspirated V8! This sounds so good. Still a luxury car with a little rumble...

That actually sounds good. The third resonator might be the reason. It functions like a x-pipe.

I’d be curious to hear it with an x pipe in place of the resonator. These 4.2’s Audi put in were bulletproof engines, unfortunately they’ve bent to the smaller boosted craze due to emissions…

The reason it sounds so good because there is NO xpipe. While an xpipe gives you a more raspy racecar sound, you get so much more deep V8 rumble without one.

@@maximusoptimusTECH If there was no resonator or x-pipe,, just a separate exhaust pipe for each bank, then it would clap and sound more raspy. The fact that both sides share a resonator reduces that like adding an x or h-pipe to it. If you hear one of these with a true dual setup you could tell the difference.

I love the sound of any v8 better of course and it sucks they stopped putting them in the s4s But the supercharged v6 is an amazing engine and so easy to squeeze more power. And with the proper Exhaust and headers it sounds pretty good for a v6. And I am not a fan of too many v6's.

Yes sir! I have the same car with rear muffler delete... sounds identical. I was thinking of replacing the middle resonator with a Borla muffler. I just dont want it to sound to "raspy" love the deep V8 rumble.

@@thecatalyst6790 While its not my daily, in the 3 years I've owned it, I've never been stranded on the side of the road or anything like that. Just regular maintenance. I did have to replace the front control arms which goes bad on these. And I had a check engine light pop up once. Took it to my indi and they fixed it for under a grand. So yea I'd say its reliable.

@@thecatalyst6790 NP! I KNEW I would be getting one when I first saw it back in 2008. This is a great cruising car, by no means the quickest out there but if you like long drives and canyon carving, this car is great. And that exhaust note... I find myself turning down the tunes and just listening to that V8 sing at highway speeds!

Good work giving the gentleman when he wanted, and filmed most of it right, in my opinion, just some mistakes want to point out for FUTURE better videos, in my car sound knowledge. PROBLEMS: you revved to 2-3 rpm on first "stock run" then when you did the change you had him REV it higher.. and it said 97.. then 101 briefly and 107 for a sec.. you said WOW 107+ However, on the stock run you never said "higher, higher" he revved less on stock a bit... but even that, the stock hit 90+, I believe 91 recorded by your video... and you say oh in the "70s".... I GET IT. you want to make your work seem better than it is.. "work cutting off two pipes" still I get it!!! but this is BAD FAITH...2k+ more RPM is when the v8 opens UP.. with raspy.. even stock a bit so you not doing that on stock will make it seem quiet... and YOU reading the DB meter MAX for the changed one.. but the stock when it came in.. it HIT 91+ on lower revs stock.. and you said 70s okay.. quiet... THAT IS bad faith.. Enjoy guys!!! good job overall ! you probably told the gentleman exact effects of this MF delete.. I hope he didn't pay hundreds or much over 100 cuz it don't cost that much NOMATTER what pipe.. I don't care if it's even jaguar or I was going to say ferrari.. but even JAGUAR xk-rs.. those are still just pipes.. so this AUDI I know it is AUDI S/RS but end of day it's same structure for cutting off pipes as any car, mustang, Toyota... etc.

I would have to disagree with this “mechanic” because my 3.0T supercharged V6 is a beast and very reliable.

The 3.0t are reliable for sure but they sound like mice compared to these 4.2 V8’s. 3.0T is quicker though so it’s a trade off. I went with the 4.2. Big single turbo build coming next month in mine. 650HP+ on that v8 is going to be crazy.

@@elliotlindstrom6259 carbon buildup up was an issue yes and the timing chain issues didn’t really affect the b8 platform. That’s was more b6/b7 S4 issues. Besides the carbon buildup which is minor, the motor is very reliable. B8 V8 S5’s in the 6 spd manual will become very valuable long term as well as the other euro big manual V8’s like the E92 M3, Maserati Gran Turismo, E39 M5, etc..The V6 S5 not so much.

Nah it sounds like a German v8
