I have the V-6 and it is a JOY to drive. With ONLY 292 horsepower, it is still alot of fun to drive. And of course it looks great. I never get tired of seeing it when I am walking out of work or out into any parking lot. It looks like nothing else. And it is HUGE inside. It gets great mileage. I average 23 mpg but I NEVER drive it easy. I usually manually shift it just because I love the feel of it once it breaks 4000RPM where it starts to get a little wild. Manual shifting the autostick prevent is from upshifting when you let off the gas and makes it engine brake, so it acts and feels exactly like a manual transmission without having to use your left foot on the clutch :) Test drive one and you will be shocked. I discovered them when I tried to rent a Crown Vic which they were out of. I, grudgingly, accepted the Charger substitute, and , after one week, vowed to buy one. Only one drawback (besides not getting the V-8) is the size of the seats. I am an average sized guy and the seats are slightly too large, made for big, fat, American asses XD but it sure is comfy! Miles of legroom front and back. It is longer than many SUV's... lol

I just test drove the road and track edition yesterday and walked away extremely surprised. I'm currently driving an STI. Fun but i'm growing out of it. I want something with beef but i don't want a super stiff ride anymore. This car was surprisingly fun and comfortable. It had no problem throwing me in the seat from any speed. Obviously it wasn't quite as nimble as my STI, but it hugged the turns without any problem.

I actually just bought my 2011 this past weekend. This is my 3rd recent Dodge. Previously I owned a 2.7 Magnum and then a 3.5 Challenger. I was finally able to upgrade to a Charger RT for my 40th birthday. I must say that the styling hasn't completely won me over yet. The interior IS leaps and bounds past previous generations though. The extra 120bhp of the Hemi engine makes me completely forget any current or past shift problems for now.

I run everything stock RT and get 17-18 in the city and 25 26 hwy when not driven hard. That being said, the fuel gauge moves to the left pretty fast when you floor it. It handles good for a RWD car in the winter, but you can always buy the AWD version. I live in MI and survived the last one with a/s tires. If you are looking for a Taurus or an Impala, this car should be #1 in your shopping list.. Its so much fun to pick up groceries and at the same time smoke some boy racers with your HEMI !

There is a TSB for the 2011 Charger/300 with the 5-speed auto. The dealership will re-flash the trans control module to improve shift quickness and feel, and make autostick work better and give the driver more control. Also, I don't think the 5 speed automatic is nearly as bad as mentioned in this video.
@carguy37914 жыл бұрын
@ivankuga first of all, the golf r's engine is turbocharged, and actually makes close to the same hp a the NA v6 in the charger. then, the golf r has a 6 speed manual, while the charger has a 5 speed automatic. last and the biggest, is the huge weight difference

@TheNewMrCool Yes I know, you can't really compare an AMG to a Dodge Charger. This Charger is basically a mid-size sedan with a big V8 in it. An E63 AMG for instance is a full size luxury sedan (emphasis on luxury) with >500hp and performance/race orientated brakes/gearbox/suspension.

Anyone who hated the interior of the last charger, or just thought it could be done a little better, really needs to go check out the new one. It's like stepping out of a Pinto and into a Cadillac. I own a 2007 R/T and I love it, but I will be the first to say hands down the 2011 is far superior. As far as the manual trans, Ralph Gilles said on Leno's Garage that they are considering it. He was careful not to guarantee anything or get any hopes up, but at least we know they are listening!

Oh and the people complaining its a coronet because it has 4 doors need to learn some history of the charger. The Coronet came first and was originally 2 doors as well. The literally took a coronet welded a fast back roof on and changed the grill boom you call it a Charger. The 68-70 gave us the iconic look and deviated it more from the Coronet, which was still 2 doors until 71 then it was almost literally a 4 door Charger.

@jmcle884 as i already said, the dodge cars are much wider and longer than MOST standard cars such as your altima (especially if its a newer one:2009-11) which means everything must be widened and lengthened. that is where all the extra mass is coming from

@chrisZ281 that's what warranties are for, and if there is a serious problem there will be a recall, having the idea of waiting to buy a car new is stupid. if everyone did that then nothing will get changed since the sale numbers will be too low for the company to care about changing it. if you like a car, buy it, there are laws to protect buyers from crappy cars.

@fastbynature81 Thats my point exactly. Your not the only one who wants Dodge to step up the challenger. Understandable when the Charger came out again it was brought out in a era when the muscle war was dying out. The camaro was fading away, the GTO was on its last leg, the trans am had faded away. But now that the Muscle War is in full affect I think Dodge needs to add a 2 door pure muscle option rivaling the Challenger..Maybe even boosting their rides to offer something against the GT500

@TheTeevo8 I'm with you there. For those who are comparison shopping, it is a full size car; the other except the Impala is a mid-size. Its competition to me for the V6 would be Buick LaCrosse, Nissan Maxima, Ford Taurus, Toyota Avalon, and Hyundai Genesis. V-8 versions would compare to Hyundai Genesis V-8, Taurus SHO, and perhaps a turbo I-6 or V-8 BMW 5 Series (for hp comparisons).

@EclipseGS04 The 5.0 responds fine to mods, there's nothing wrong with the rear axle, they last longer, need less maintenance, are stronger, and easier to work on. There isn't anything wrong with it other than it can get unsettled on a very rough road. If you're into straight line speed, a solid rear is the ideal thing to have. If you're into corners...well, it still rapes the Camaro, and puts out M3 performance. Now the Boss 302 is about to come out, which is lighter AND more powerful.
@XxXMOOMOOCOWXxX13 жыл бұрын
@jmcle884 that extra weight on the dodges keeps them planted at higher speeds, compared to the camaro and mustang, the challenger and charger are said to be much more stable at 150+

Frankly, this is a good improvement. I love my '06 Charger R/T and this looks better yet, just needs the 6 speed that they have in the Challengers. Why is this reporter complaining about the transmission? I just took a testdrive in a 2011 Charger R/T with the 5.7 Hemi. The automatic transmission was shifting smooth & very fast. Kickdown response was super. So it has 'only' 5 gears...Big deal. The only reason an engine as flexible & strong as the 5.7 Hemi needs a different trans is because other brands have more gears.

The comparision to the E39 is a BIG stretch. This Charger weighs in at probally 4100lbs easy, only has an automatic and a good-'ol fashioned push rod V8. Actually, its chassis dates back to the late '90s like the E39, but its from Merc Benz. They where more about solidity and isolation back then.

@jjchargerboy16 I agree that they should put a manual in the Charger. Although it wouldn't be the volume transmission, the Charger is now good enough to be somewhere on the radar of the more hard-core sport sedan market, although much more affordable. But, within the realm of automatics (which, once again, always sell vastly better here in America for some reason) the Mercedes unit they use now on Chargers and Challengers is far below what it could be. But yes, bring on the stick.

The video states that the car is being limited by Chrysler's old, slow five-speed. That is incorrect, the car is limited by MERCEDES' old, slow five-speed. Chrysler is still under contract with Daimler to use the W5A580 transmissions in their cars to a certain extent, and so they were essentially forced to put the transmission in the Charger.

@AlgonquinCelebrity96 Because its cheaper thats why people would buy it, minus the two doors in general or... When Mopar, Super Bee, and Hemi SRT8 trims are out they should specifically have coupe options. They have the Avenger, the 300c,and the 200c so a Charger coupe would be a great addition. Plus the fact that I'm pretty sure the Charger and Challenger are about equal in speed the only reason the charger would be faster is because it'll be lighter minus the two doors.
