Two months ago, Harley Davidson announced the brand new, redesigned 2021 Sportster S. The new Sportster was said to be loaded with technology, have sportbike-like agility, and have far more power than previous models, pushing over 120 horsepower out of Harley's new Revolution Max motor. Today, I got to take the highly anticipated 2021 Sportster S for my first ride!
But the question is- Did the Sportster S live up to ALL the hype around it? Personally, after my test ride of the motorcycle, I don't think it quite lived up to the hype. You'll have to watch to find out why!

This was my first attempt at a “one take, one shot, hope you say everything you need to say in a 15 minute ride” video, so hopefully you guys liked it! I wish I could’ve ridden the bike harder to see its full potential, but unfortunately that’s easier said than done on a supervised group ride with a ride leader directly behind me. Overall, is it a fun bike? Sure. But is it for me? Nah. I would LOVE to get my hands on a Sportster S with mid controls for a second (unsupervised) ride to really see what the bike’s capable of though. Let me know below if there’s anything I didn’t cover or anything you have questions about! If you’re just here to hate on the way I rode the bike or you’re butthurt because we have differing opinions on the bike…I don’t care. Shut up. Anyway, love you guys! 🧡

I felt the same as you really. Although I liked it , I was hoping for it to be more engaging like the 114 engines but it's so refined that it lost a bit of V-twin opphh. Although I did think it had serious power! and it was very easy to power slide. Thanks for the video, mine isn't up for a few months yet. Busy times : )

Great Review Burch! I had a blast talking bikes and I gotta say I don't think we are as far apart as ya think. You saw my 'fleet" and know I'm not a brand specific fanboy... I think the biggest difference we had is I felt it had more gut wrenching torque than the Pan Am...which played out by the easy power wheelie. I don't know why we had such a different experience. Thanks again for all and I'm sure we will catch you around!

I’ve been on Sportster S 3 times now and love it. After a few miles I got used to the fwd controls. The exhaust heat only really got me when we hit stop-and-go traffic. I loved all my experiences on this bike and the Pan America and I typically ride naked bikes in a really upright position. I’d buy a Sportster S as long as I could get a more cushioned seat and adjust the suspension as we weren’t allowed to make any adjustments to the suspension before taking the bike out.

@@LifeOfBurch is there any tips you can give me for editing videos better, I feel as tho my videos are lacking.
@LifeOfBurch
@LifeOfBurch 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sutherby_ the best advice I can give is to remember how crazy SHORT people’s attention spans are nowadays. The first 30 seconds of a video (or drastically less sometimes) really determine who stays to watch and who doesn’t. The more people who stay to watch, and the longer they watch, the more KZbin pushes that video out to more people. Focus on getting RIGHT to the meat and potatoes of the video as soon as it starts, and then throughout the video do everything you can to keep the viewer engaged and watching. I.E.- cut out any dead space or non-important/exciting parts, and give them a reason to keep watching. Those are the biggest things I focus on when editing. Hope that helps!

Forward pegs do take some acclimatisation and the seat has to be super soft, the controls do need to be set up with more care but with time they are more comfortable for long rides and your riding becomes laid back this is why us old dude's end up with them ☺😊
@LifeOfBurch
@LifeOfBurch 2 жыл бұрын
That’s kinda my point though- I can see them being great on a bike set up to be laid back, but why put them on a bike that’s literally designed to be the sportiest bike you make? Just weird to me. I could totally see them making sense on a bigger cruiser though!

I rode the bike in the IMS in PA as well. My expectations were way down there. I figured the exhaust was going to be hot and I would get a bone jarring ride. When I first layed eyes on it it didn't look as bad as I thought it would in the pictures. It was a heck of a lot smaller than I figured too. I'm getting older and I'm looking to get "smaller" bike, one that's easier to push around get into stop and go traffic. Also want more upright ergos. I'm riding a Honda VFR1200 right now and a V-Rod (ok Night Rod... like mid controls) before that. So When I took it out it was much more pleasant than I thought. Again my expectations were low to begin with. I did try and like the mid controls better. I'm not into the forward controls. Also hopped on the PanAmerica and suspension was unbelievable. I can live with it but kinda tall and top heavy. Like I said getting older and looking to downsize.

I own one. It’s my 27th bike so I know what I like by this point. Had to do a seat and risers for comfort. Decided to leave the foot pegs foreword because they are comfortable that way. The bike you ride is capable of running a 10.9 at 121 mph in the quarter mile. It’s really fast. The power is immediate and brutal but still has a low end grunt that makes just riding around nice. I’ve never felt like the single rotor was not stopping me quick enough and it can easily double the yellow signs. I do share in the complaints with the rear suspension, it’s inadequate. Anyway the point I’m making is it’s not possible to give a full review in a organized group ride. It’s a hooligan bike and does that work excellent while being cleverly disguised as a Harley Davison.

This is why I don’t like HD…..they knew most people wouldn’t want forward controls…it’s not just the shifting but it’s the body position that I can’t see anyone enjoying. Just your all to common ploy by HD to add another 700 to the cost on a bike that is already 15k. Also the peak on that huge front tire is going to wear first so you would have to imagine the best handling the bike will ever have is mile one and just get progressively worse. Do like the direction HD is going but they need to cut out all the BS.

Nice review and ride Burch. You confirmed some things I have heard from others. I am tall and heavier. I was thinking about it because the forward controls might give me the leg room I need and it would be a commuter bike for me. It doesn't look like it will work well.
