I'd like to give these guys a lot of credit for their honesty. I contacted them last year about selling my B-3. They explained to me why they weren't interested, which I understood. They told me I could do a lot better if I sold it myself, and they were right. I put it on a popular music sight, and about a month later, it was sold. This is the place to buy a Hammond organ. Thanks guys.

Thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated! We talk to many people about Hammond organs and we do try our best to be helpful and also provide useful information. I must admit, I ask B3 owners to save our contact information in the organ bench in the hopes that someday they will contact us again and perhaps trade-in or sell us their Hammond. I like and appreciate when people remember us, and we like to see Hammond organs being enjoyed for as long as possible by the owners. We work hard to find good homes for as many instruments as possible and we also enjoy the process of doing an outstanding restoration on all the instruments we sell. I could go on and on about the work we do at Keyboard Exchange but most of what I might say here is already on our website www.keyboardexchange.com. For many decades we have been saying " Help Us Save the B3's" It takes a village! Thanks again for your kind words!!!!!!!!

Most people are super happy to find even ONE Hammond organ! Our showroom, with the variety of Hammonds we offer, has taken more than 50 years to put together. Some say it has been a "labor of love"! WE enjoy it when people like you seem to appreciate what we offer. Hope you get to visit us someday in Sanford Florida and choose an instrument for yourself. All you need is one ( at a time) and it can be considered an investment for a lifetime of musical enjoyment! THANK YOU for subscribing! I will tell Sista KB you have followed her instructions! Hello Alan McCoy! Thank you for your kind words and comment. So glad you have found our channel. More information about Hammond organs at www.keyboardexchange.com I have visited your channel and appreciate what you are doing on your piano. We should talk sometime about how you could transition to a Hammond and it might even be interesting to monitor your progress as you transition from piano to Hammond B3 or similar instrument. We get quite a few inquiries asking how this can be done and you might be just the guy to show it being done! What you do now with your left hand could be transferred to the bass pedals. Your right hand could remain the same and your left hand could be used for a variety of other musical purposes like comping chords, building glissandos to add drama, and much more! This C2 bites hard like an angry dog :) I love it! I always liked the sound of the 2 series (B2/C2). I've always liked the sound of the A0-10 preamp...fat and full. I have a B2 with a 31H Leslie speaker, and yes; I prefer the single speed Leslies. I play jazz, and the straight sound with the rotors off brings out the Chorus much better. Don't get me wrong, I have a pair of 122's with my B3, but the 31H and the B2 is used for practice. I recently repaired/restored a 31H for a customer and his main request was to leave it original. I totally agreed with him. This C2 you have is a winner! I would take it home with you...completely agree :)

Thanks for your comments, Frank! Always! Where is your repair shop located? We have a "cut down" 31H or 32H cabinet and most of the parts to make it complete but we are lacking the motivation to properly restore it due to the modification to the cabinet size. I have seen this modification before where the cabinet is reduced in size to match the height of a 122 or 147. It is logical in the way it was done and well done also. You are an expert with these older Leslie speakers so I seek your opinion and advice.

@@KeyboardExchange I'm in New Jersey, and also upstate NY. I will be closing down the jersey shop soon. It's difficult to travel between 2 shops. I will be working out of the basement of my Fiance's house. The shop is bigger. The Jersey shop is so small, that if you want to change your mind, you have to go outside :) I'm going to be making a trip down by you hopefully after the Covid thing lightens up. I would like to check out your Hammond heaven as I call it :) I could bring my tech kit, and do the restoration at your shop. We can keep in touch on this subject. It would be nice to meet you, Randolph and your techs. The idea of reducing the size of a 31H cabinet is a clever idea, however, It reduces the bass response due to the reduction. That big bass sound becomes shallow. The big cabinet along with the field coil speaker is the 31H sound. Just a little note...The early 31H Leslies had Magnavox 15" FC speakers. They started using Jensen later on in production. The first available Leslie, the model 30A also had the Magnavox 15 and the horn driver was also a field coil type.

Ain't gonna lie, I've played a few Hammond's over a 30 year period and with popular music, Leslie is best with Fast and Off.
@KeyboardExchange3 жыл бұрын
AS mentioned some people prefer the OFF position. When you think about it, Leslie only offered fast and off for many years before introducing slow speed aka "Chorale". The great news is that we have choices with our musical expression using a Hammond with Leslie! Some of our instruments are offered with the option of THREE choices and using a three-position Leslie switch. It adds a little to the cost but a great investment for the flexibility it offers! Did you install the Trek II percussion unit according to it's instructions? Then the 8th drawbar of one set is missing permanently, isn't it?
@KeyboardExchange3 жыл бұрын
Decades ago the TREK II percussion instructions suggested that the one-foot pure tone drawbar be omitted as it is in a B3, C3, A-100,D-152 or RT-3. We contacted the good people at TREK II and suggested that we would prefer to retain the pure one-foot sound and eliminate what you are calling the 8th drawbar. I suppose it can be done either way but we prefer to keep the pure tone of the one-foot high end. This gives us more "scream" when using the B preset. What is your preference? Even without percussion adding the one-foot drawbar into the mix adds so much! More information about Hammonds and Leslie speaker availability at: www.keyboardexchange.com
@VixNoelopan3 жыл бұрын
@@KeyboardExchange The crux is that one drawbar is missing permanently, regardless if the percussion is on or off. In it's original condition the Trek II unit doesn't even allow to activate this drawbar with the percussion off. I also have a 1950 C-2 sitting in my home that I'm going to restore soon. I'm considering to add a 10th set of contacts, using three contact PCB's from a scrappy Aurora, but I still haven't any idea if it is possible at all, if there will be enough space beneath the upper manual contacts and how I could link the new contacts to the key actuators. Well, we'll see...
@KeyboardExchange3 жыл бұрын
@@VixNoelopan Interesting........All the drawbars can be accessed with the B flat preset. IF you are able to add additional contacts, or IF you are willing to sacrifice the use of one drawbar, you might want to consider using that contact system to add MIDI rather than percussion. You might also want to consider moving up to a B3 or C3 which would solve one of your issues immediately in that with percussion OFF, your drawbar use returns. Care to trade in your C2 toward a B3 or C3? Either way, I wish you good luck! Thanks again for your comments!
@VixNoelopan3 жыл бұрын
@@KeyboardExchange Well, I'm in Germany, so trading overseas not really is an option :-). To add full MIDI functionality, a set of dual throw contacts would be needed to emulate the pianos' key dynamics, for instance. The Aurora and other transistor Hammond contacts aren't. They're just single throw.
@KeyboardExchange3 жыл бұрын
@@VixNoelopan You are correct. Still, I would not mind having the ability to play some new voices along with the Hammond tones and then put an electric piano or keyboard on the top of the organ as a third manual. MIDI on the organ keyboard would not be touch-sensitive but the third manual keyboard on top could be. A bit of a compromise is sometimes OK in my humble opinion as long as there is a forward motion involved. Just one person's opinion......

What makes the organ sound like that "screaming affect"
@KeyboardExchange3 жыл бұрын
Many new and rebuilt parts are installed into these vintage organs to give them the sound you are hearing. ALL the parts are important and the adjustments on the instrument, including internal adjustments are very important. NEW TUBES and the proper tubes sourced from the best companies. All these factors combine to make for an amazing outcome. ALL 65 year old Hammond organs require internal restoration for safety reasons as well as audio quality. Thank you for your comment.

What happens if you pull al of the drawbars out
@KeyboardExchange3 жыл бұрын
This is a GREAT question! Pulling out ALL the drawbars provides the maximum sound to be produced! This setting is often referred to as "Full Organ" and is used when looking for all the sounds you can get. The tone wheels in the organ are constantly turning and their sounds are constantly available to be used. The drawbars control how much of the sound will be heard. A common phrase that we hear in life, when we are being asked to give something our maximum effort is " Pull out all the stops". If you are studying for a math final exam and your teacher or parent says..Study hard! Really "pull out all the stops" for this test! The same applies to win the big game! This phrase harkens back to the days of pipe organ when the organ "stops" had to be pulled out in much the same way as we pull out drawbars on our Hammond organs. This is my opinion. Perhaps there are others who can comment and add additional explanations and clarifications, which will be helpful to us all.
@HammondDirk3 жыл бұрын
@@KeyboardExchange But Laurens Hammond did not like it when somebody pulled all drawbars. Funny quote from the manual of a L-100: "Do not make the mistake of putting all the drawbars all the way out with the idea that you will get a bigger "full organ". Actually, you will get a tone which cannot be identified as that of any type of instrument or group of instruments, since you will have exactly the same setting of the fundamental and each of the harmonics, and the resultant tone will be too "bright" for most purposes." Actually, many jazz and rock organists used 88 8888 888 a lot...
@KeyboardExchange3 жыл бұрын
@@HammondDirk This is really GREAT input and we thank you for your comment. I totally agree with you that many musicians LOVE the sound of the organ with all the drawbars pulled out. I personally use this setting often however would suggest this setting be used only on one manual at a time. I do not recall ever wanting to pull all the drawbars on BOTH manuals at the same time. That would not make sense to me and I think it important to mention this. In a video we made years ago on How to Use Drawbars and other features, shown on # 12 Hammond B3 in an ebony finish, I show an example of getting from one preset to another quickly, and in that video, I used ALL the drawbars. I also think that musical tastes have changed since Mr. Hammond made his statement. Let's remember that Mr. Hammond did not at all approve of using a Leslie speaker!
