Sitting in nature quietly long enough to blend in is such a great tip. The first time I did this with a group of people on a permaculture course in the middle of a woods in Glasgow. A deer walked about 10 metres away from me. It was such an amazing experience. Being a gardener, any chance I get to be myself I try to stop and spot birds and mammals etc. Even looking a the different types of fungi at this time of year is awesome. Thanks for the video.

Loved this video. Started eating whole food plant based in March 2019. I love walks outside. Since March 17, 2020 I've been working from home. Isolation drove many indoors, but walked the neighborhood on my morning & afternoon breaks. July 2020 was introduced to Walk at Home video exercises. When the fires hit CA the smoke was horrendous here in the San Joaquin valley. I kept up with exercise after my shift and lost 14.5 lbs in that year. My husband took us to the beach every Saturday where we got fresh air and sun. Bringing a cooler with our food kept us whole food plant based. I began morning devotions and meditation before my shift since I didn't have to drive to work. This has been a positive experience. I'm working on my sleep routine as this is very important for health. Thank you for sharing your list in this video. Loved the forest scenery and music. Well done.

The hobby point was so bang on. It's not the cars. It's how the cars enable you to learn so much more and create. We are inherently creative animals. Every sentence we say has likely never been said ever. We are animals that go out into the world and create. That doesn't mean just art or "creatives" that we've been told is being creative. Play itself is creative.

There is so much to be sad about in the world, we could spend the rest of our lives dwelling. OR we can be happy and work towards change. It's good to be aware, but we can only digest so much. It's a beautiful thing when you find habits that make you happy. Something I've found that only comes with time and experience is the ability to recognize what makes you happy and what feeds into negative emotions. It's strangely not always obvious to recognize what habits serve you and which do not. We often habitually do things that serve only to bring us down, and seldom stop to reflect on why.

Great video once again Derek. In Dr Greger's "How not to die" (suicidal depression chapter), he sites some interesting studies on the effects of excess arachidonic acid which is in most animal products. It can cause inflammation in the brain and even make it more difficult for neurotransmitters to do their job. If anyone out there is reading this and suffering from depression or anxiety, I highly recommend giving a whole food vegan diet a try!

All these are amazing habits! Exercise is a big one, when it comes to a situation where you're already in a bad mood. Moving your body, (this includes dancing for example!) is so cleansing to the mind. It can be a form of moving meditation. From personal experience it works wonders. Our minds need as much hygiene and care taking as our bodies, just in different ways and self care is vital for feeling good long term!

the 1:1 ratio is a real simple one but really like that way of framing the life balance. always was hard to find that "sweet spot" of when is too much sm intake, following the rule seems like it serves as a solid proactive incentive as much as a flexible length grace period to keep your mental health in check
