WFPB cardiologist, Dr. Joel Kahn, recently reviewed an extensive study out of Spain where two groups consuming olive oil in their diets, one with smaller amounts, one with larger, and after years of follow up, the group consuming larger amounts had better endothelium functioning, and clearer arteries. They were not comparing olive oil consumption to butter consumption, but smaller to larger amounts of OO. I was basically following the advice of the wfpb doctors, but this recent research, has me rethinking this doctrine. I still won't consume copious amounts, but a teaspoon or two on my salad (yes, I measure) is now, not off the table.

I never thought about how disgusting oil is when it’s splattered all over your stove and the backsplash, etc. A big reason why I like a vegan lifestyle is because I am paranoid about bacteria from chicken and meat contaminating other food if I don’t clean it up well enough. Now I can add oil to my paranoia. Lol

I'm 60 and vegan for 6 years now. And I agree with most of what is said here in this video about oil. But I will say this. I don't cook with oil because I eat a mainly raw diet in the summers and soups and salad during the winter months. But I will use oil in salad dressings. Oil is helpful to digest nutrients in vegetables and eating whole olives in every salad is not always a solution. Some salads don't call for olives or even olive oil but are better with an oil and vinegar dressing with a mild-flavored oil such as avocado or sunflower oil, etc. which is used to cut the acidity of the vinegar. I wouldn't overdo it, but I think there is still a place for some small use of oil besides cooking with oil.
@doinacampean91323 жыл бұрын
When I first started cooking with no oil, it was not hard to learn, just add a little bit of water, so the food doesn't stick and burn. And if it did stick, add a bit more water to deglaze... But doing the dishes after, what a HUGE relief... practically just rinsing, compared with the heavy elbow grease involved in washing... well.. greasy dishes... If I may, according to a number of doctors, ditching oil from your diet may have the side effect of reversing your type 2 diabetes... a wonderful #6 reason... Look it up... start with dr Neal Barnard... I know my own pre-diabetes got reversed and not planning to reverse the reversal anytime soon :)

I was doing 40 minutes of cardio twice daily for 1 year and dropped my weight to a certain point. But it wasn't until I changed my eating habits that people started asking how I got in shape like that. And it took only about 4 months to make the change apparent. Quitting milk and milk products like cheese, getting rid of any added oil and eating fruits and greens before the main meal, plus switching to rice / whole grain pasta and beans cooked in a veggie broth as my main calorie source - that's what made the big difference.

@@jesseenixon added oils is in almost everything but products labeled "oil free" or, most importantly, the things you cook from scratch. Which is actually pretty hard for most people, having little experience in the kitchen and buying the ready made stuff. This leads to the need to simplify your home meals as much as you can, clean your home environment of any produce with oil. And yes, our body needs oils but it gets the required amount from any food. Keep in mind that simple dry groats or oats, have 18% calories from fat (oil) without anything added, they grow with that amount in nature. If you're really worried about your fat intake - eat a handful of dried (not roasted) nuts a day, they are at least 50% fat.

I have two friends who make tabouli - - one Lebanese, and one Syrian. Both drench their salad in olive oil. It's tasty, but UGH !!! Here's what I do: high-speed blend some ripe green olives (NOT Manzanillas) and some hemp seed into the citrus (lemon or lime) and garlic that I use for the dressing. It gives the olive flavor and the mouth-fat feel, without added oil !!! Delicious !!!!!

Yep. I just started the process of taking out oils about a couple of months ago. I always go back and forth for a while before permanently making a change like this, so I will have some things now and again but I know it will eventually become my new norm to eat no oil or anything like that. I don’t care so much about gaining weight from it, but I do feel so INCREDIBLY better when I don’t eat any of it. Like, not to be TMI but my periods have been sooooo much better too. No more pain! And my circulation is 1 million times better. After not eating oils for a few weeks the first time I noticed how much more feeling I had in my legs. A lot more! Everything just started to feel a lot more alive! The benefits were really surprising the first time because I just hadn’t read up on it or thought about it much and just did it out of curiosity. I knew after experiencing the benefits and how much healthier and vibrant I felt when not consuming oil, that it was, in fact, a major hinderance on my health.

Switching to a whole food plant-based diet and giving up cooking with olive oil is a real brain switch! It seems every single recipe starts with “sauté one chopped onion in 4 trillion gallons of oil.” (OK, maybe just three trillion.) It’s so hard to give it up! But once you do you realize you can eat more of the healthy food you just cooked because it’s not swimming in fat, and then you get more nutrients and you’re healthier and you realize the oil was not doing you any favors. I just ignore the first part of those recipes and use water or broth.

I LOVE what you two are promoting, thank you so much! This has helped me feel so much better in just the 2 weeks that I've stopped eating olive and all processed oil. I've been eating all vegan and only garden foods since APR 2021 as I'm in the process of reversing a bad diagnosis from the doc, but didn't know that drenching my veggies in olive oil was possibly keeping me sick. Since stopping the olive oil and ALL processed oils in the past 2 weeks, I have lost another 10 lbs (already lost 40) with only 10 more lbs to get to my ideal weight. However, I DO rebound on my mini tramp every day and go for walks in the sunlight, (live in Arizona), drink plenty of water and get proper rest, eliminating as much stress as possible and learning to just process it better. But doing ALL of that without eliminating the processed oils still left me wondering why my cholesterol was still high! I take no meds at all as I refused them all. I'm wondering if the EVOO was the culprit to the cholesterol issue. We will see. They said my calcium was too high too, maybe juicing too many greens with calcium? Before anyone says a word about juicing, I also blend my greens into smoothies as well. No sweeties in my smoothies other than an OCCASIONAL frozen banana IF I want something sweet. Anyway any thoughts would be much appreciated, and yes, I know you & Reebs are not medical professionals, I get that. But your thoughts would be greatly respected. Thanks! :)

As you said, it's so pleasant to cook without oil, and have less clean up along with the health benefits, and amazing to read labels of processed foods in the grocery store... Everything has oil in it! It does mean doing a little more cooking, but planning ahead really helps. I like making extra and putting some away for another time. On oil being disgusting: it smells and feels disgusting, too! When cooking with oil, dirty dishes are far dirtier and nastier, with smells that are so bad and feeling so oily. I am 100% Plant Based into my eighth year I eat no fast food and stay away completely from highly processed foods I do however use and will continue to use organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil which is the only oil we use at home. I am Italian and have consumed it all my life and love the taste and smell of it. In the parts of Sardinia Italy and Ikaria Greece where you find some of the healthiest and longest lived people on the planet olive oil is a staple. I am not saying olive oil is the reason for their good health but it doesn’t seem to affect them negatively. I think the main reason they are healthy is because they eat small amounts of animal products with most of their diet being plants and they do not eat fast food and processed food like many do in North America including some Vegans.

I weigh 114 lbs. 56 years old. Help me please I need the weight on me.? At least 10 lbs. I eat nuts, beans kale etc. my daughter said I look anorexic. I am proud of bringing cholestrol numbers down. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes ,do consult with a plant based doctor. In the meantime, add more nuts and seeds and maybe even nut butters to put more fat on if that is what you are looking for.

but are flaxseeds okay--like for smoothies?

Flaxseeds are ok - they are whole food. Flaxseed oil is not okay it's processed food.

hello again, you guys seem very no-nonsense to me...i was wondering if you have an opinion on raw veganism, and more specifically if you've heard of dr. brooke goldner's "hyper nourishing protocol" and if so, what is your opinion. thanks.

Don't forget Anthony William Medical Medium. Yes I can just rinse my dishes off. Clean up is easy peasy. I am 80% raw vegan and 20% cooked.

I've been able to get lots and lots of crap out of my diet. But I have kids who love pancakes and I've yet to find a way to put them on the griddle and cook without butter. Yes I've baked them too, but its just not the same. Ha...I don't eat them, but my point is that from time to time, I'll add a bit to grease the wheels, pun intended on this run on sentence.

Try a no stick fry pan. They work very well.

Dr Michael Klaper maintains we need 30% healthy, plant based fats to protect our brains from dementia in the long run. I get no seed oils but surely coconut and cold pressed olive oil (small amounts) fit into this criteria?
@WellYourWorld3 жыл бұрын
The fats Dr. Klaper refers to are whole unprocessed foods like nuts, seeds, avocados, soy, etc. Dr. Klaper is strongly opposed to the use of added processed oils of any kind in the diet.
