Vlad was actually a pretty good ruler. He was very hands off, as long as laws are obeyed and taxes are paid. Sylvania prospered under him. Its the other Von Carsteins that were terrible rulers. Thats why when he died, Sylvania became a terrible place to live.

That's a Thing I hoped CA would get down for His TW: Warhammer voice acting. Vlad was a harsh/callous ruler, but a fair and just one. Especially compared to even a Lot of normal Human nobles of the Empire.

He was retconned. Look, I too love what he became, but his real nature? Lawful Evil to the bone. Oh yes, he's going to save you. But! Only so either: he reaps some arcane rewards you are not aware of right now OR so he could say HE SAVED you. He's that kind of person. Scheming, controlling and super charismatic. Also, Evil, yes.

@@goransekulic3671 People didn't mind it much. Honestly I am reading the Night's Dark Masters and it seems like Sylvanians were the kind of people that just looked for Vampire boot to lick at all times. Sure Conrad was terrible but people living under Mannfred and Vlad prefer them to human nobles.

Ushoran was also a pretty good leader overall. The human population of the Strigos empire flourished and the vampires fed only on criminals. It wasn't until later that the strigoi were turned into beasts as the result of Neferata's jealous rage.

I love characters like this, when you have a mold or stereotype and then explicitly break it. Vlad has a little bit in the sense of he was trying to protect everyone from chaos by converting them to undeath or how quite a few tomb kings are genuinely sympathetic! I love the story of a scholar who was trying to find a cure for his wife and the tomb king found sympathy with him and gave him the knowledge he sought or how the more relaxed Norscans in the south have a working relationship with the empire and kislev! It is so much more interesting than 'bad guy rawr'!

@@RagingFreedom360 I believe it's the southern tribes. Makes sense, too, because there are many parallels with history and the Scandinavians used to both trade with and raid the nations around them. Although I doubt they did so in the same period.. but I don't know.

Love Gashnag. He seemed to me an icon of vampirism not always leading to evil, but more like the super soldier serum in captain america. Good becomes great, bad becomes worse.

Personally I would love for Gashnag to be a Border Prince Character, a Border Prince with access to some Vampire units like Arkhan, it would help the Border Princes be pretty diverse. That being said, I know that we probably aren't getting the Border Princes, but I can dream XD

From the descriptions given, the beasts of his realm seem living, not undead. So he would have Drychas bats and wolves instead of undead versions. If we got a couple of ghoul units and instead of vampire heroes we would get mortal heroes and a couple of mortal units (that should be added to vlad to some extent) we could have a great mixed faction. Wish they remade sartosa into a mortal faction tho.

The strigoi were always the good guys of the vampires their people the strigany still miss them as their rulers. They just kept getting screwed over again and again especially by their own kind.

Not really better than the other Bloodlines - well better than the Necrarchs but no one likes them. The Strigoi were pretty brutal rulers (esp to their women) - good source is the Neferata novel and its sequal Master of Death about W'soran

This is what's neat about the Border Princes. They REALLY aren't like Tilea or Estalia. They are literally made up of a bunch of Petty Lords of several different factions, including Dwarfs (And I think there's a Dark Elf one, I can't remember.). You could do alot of wacky, insane shit if you don't just lame it out and focus on just more bloody humans. Edit: Yeah Checked the wiki, literally any faction can be a Border Prince. There is 0 reason to limit them to humans. It even mentioned Halfling Lords (Albeit they are so rare no one knows what to think about them.).

Gashnag is featured in the novels that was written for the history of the Vampires that GW made as well. Not a major character, but he is mention a few places as far as I recall.

I used to use my personal version of Gashnag in 7th edition with a super buffed up Strigoi Ghoul King with Terrorgheist, Dire Wolves and Fell Bats but empire model to proxy black knights and skeleton warriors (no zombie) it was cool ( I choose the classic black- red- white scheme of colours for the army, it looked fine)

They can do some much with this lore.. in general; the Fantasy world is just so ripe for amazing stories. A "good" vampire right. But in the end he is a vampire. That will always haunt him, no matter how good he is. They will come for him purely for the fact he is a vampire. And he will have a hard time finding an alliance. As; who will trust a "good" vampire???

From what I've gathered it seems the transformation into a vampire exacerbates the character of the person subjected to the blood kiss while transmiting some of those inherent to the bloodline, and so the reason most vampires are selfish and evil bastards is mainly because the original ones sired by Neferata were very much the same and have continued to turn people of a similar character to further their schemes, but by the same token exceptions can happen in which people who are not necessarily good but at least principled get turned leading to vampires who are not just leeches such as with Aborash and the blood dragons, Ulrika Straghov, and perhaps the most notable example of a "good" vampire with Genevieve Dieudonné.

One of my favourite characters. You know, his bloodline started as really good "people" as well. Good, just and overall nice rullers of mortal men. But Nagash bit**** decided to ruin it. Nagash always ruin everything and his disciples and followers are the same. I would LOVE to play as WH Batman. Border princes with a twist.

I've been waiting on this. So far the only time I've ever heard of relatively good vampires was in the Gotrek and Felix books with Ulrika Magdova Straghov and the countess vampire woman who became her mentor after she was forcefully transformed by some Bretonnian vampire that was tryna make himself a demigod-like entity using chaos rituals, a mansion surrounded by warp stone deposits and a medallion that held part of Nagash's soul. I don't think it's impossible. There's also lore about that vampire dude who hasn't or hardly drunk a drop of blood in the long centuries or millennia that he's been around, preferring to be knightly. He holds on to his “humanity” that strongly. And that countess basically said most vampires older than like 500 or so years are actually pretty chill, it's the ones who become bored in their immortality or radicals who wanna follow in the footsteps of other figures like Vlad von Carstein, Luther Harkon, or Neferata who basically sacked a dwarfhold to set up an underground recreation of her ancient city in Nehekara. I still love the grimdark elements of it all. Especially in 40k with the Blood Angels either resisting or full on feeding into their literal bloodlust and eventually falling to the Black Rage, as well as Sanguinius himself also feeling those dark urges (but since he's/he was a Primarch he either likely didn't need as much blood as his space marine sons or even more of it, like drinking a small town of people's worth of blood - about 500-1000 people). But the idea of there being good vampires in such a dark setting also gives me hope for the Children of Ulric too, since most folks are convinced they're just chaos touched monsters, and to a degree they might be right if it's like a curse. But again going off of the Gotrek and Felix books, they actually seemed somewhat reasonable folks unless they're out for revenge or something. And even the Trollslayer - Gotrek Gurnison was out there killing Tzeentch cultists and werewolves alike while Felix was escaping captivity or trying to with the daughter of that tribe or pack's daughter. And she herself seemed pretty violent and in the throughs of blood lust, but if she could hold it down for more that 10 minutes to work with Felix they're probably more innocent than regular fearful humans give them credit for. But I digress and getting back to the main point. A vampire resisting the pull of the screaming thirst is likely to rot or mutate if they don't at least minorly satiate that need to feed every so often. And on what beings they can feed on, so far humans are the main prey, as to be expected. But they can likely feed on dwarves, elves (although it's never been said), and others like Skaven or Greenskins. But the taste is likely revolting from both of those species and subspecies, especially since the Ratmen have warp stone in their blood even on a minor level.

@@charleslister8465 Thank you for that 😭. I spent what felt like forever trying to find her name on Google before. Now I'm trying to find a name of that wolf princess who was pulled into the plot as bait by that Imperial lord, his wizard and his Tzeentchian or unknowing soldiers. Either that or go all the way back and relisten to the Slayer books. She's also a character I would like to see brought into the setting as a unit commander/champion/hero. Speaking of which it would actually be pretty awesome if they were able to make peace with the humans, like if some smart sorcerer like Balthazar Gelt and/or Techlis could get them to see that almost like being any of the blessed/mutated Space Wolves from the 40k setting - the Wulfen, I think they're called. El'Johnson has got some lion hybrid warriors like that in the Dark Angels too, Corax created abominations that he hates himself for from his Ravenguard sons, and other Space Marine chapters like the Space Sharks are already kinda twisted in their DNA and mentality like that, not to mention the vampirism of the Blood Angels. But again, I digress and head back to my main point. It would've been cool if like a 2000 Children of Ulric stood against chaos in defense of Middenheim and even suffering “friendly fire” from arrows in the back, they still fought on because the Empire was still their home or something and all but 4 or 5 of them make it out, likely with severe injuries. But even if that did happen, the event would likely be in the End Times. And GW/CA haven't come out with any Lore about Ulric being one of the gods who survived the End Times scenario or chose a champion to guide his “Pack” aka his worshippers into a new life. Or even became some sort of human version of the Goblin wolf riders, charging into the AoS on the backs of horse sized Direwolves with the power of snow and thunder in their eyes. And the same obviously goes for any Kislevite gods, especially Ursun - the white bear and lord of winter. Or if they've given it any thought, the idea hasn't gained any big momentum or seen like a marketable venture to whomever is in charge. And I can't necessarily blame them because then it's almost be like the Lizardmen and Skaven, everything is basically all about reptiles and/rats, or in this case wolves. They'd have Wolfman warriors, feral Werewolf warriors, Great Wolves the size of a T-Rex like the Greenskins' Squiggoth aka Orkesaurus, and somehow some flying wolves with a few the size of at least minor airborne dragons but likely not many. (Truth be told, I don't understand the Dark Angels since they're like medieval European knights and their leader, of course from his namesake loves lion, but the fact that they're called the Dark Angels is as convoluted as the aforementioned Lion El'Johnson's name. 🤔🤷🏾‍♂️😂 Lol. Side Note 2: I think Fulgrim's clone may return to the Imperium or it's gonna be either Jaghatai Khan or Vulkan to come back next, on the loyalist primarch's side, unless it's Ferrus Manus somehow but I doubt it. There's a better chance of Sanguinius or at least 1 of his 2 of her perpetual souls coming back into the setting with all of his memories and even a possible cure for the Blood Angel's thirst).

Vampires learn to control their blood lust and reduce how many times they need to drink ( if remember right from the 6ed Vampire counts books, is it so that the old vampires just need to drink blood one time in a few years) or loose control about their bloodlust and their body changes (varghulf)

Since he does need to drink blood overall even as a half vampire but his serums act as a filler like the clone blood drink of the same name as the series True Blood. But when Blade gets actual blood, his injuries heal almost instantly and his strength increases for a brief period. That's great knowing the more neutral or peaceful vamps are generally able to control their thirst and have some sort of relationship with humans besides seeing them like food in the Warhammer Fantasy series. Albeit, that's probably kinda boring to the overall theme of the franchise being “Grimdark”. Even if it's not horror, the general scenarios involve A Lot of people dying, from many races and factions since like in 40k there's basically Only War. Lol 😅😂

OK, so a few virgins went missing every so often & it was probably a wise idea to stay out of graveyards but, it's Warhammer & that is arguably a very fair trade off.

That character is begging for a mod. With faction effects like reduced diplomatic aversion from order races, global control bonus and combat buffs for strigoi and hounds/bats. Lore does not state that he uses mortal soldiers but i imagine people under his rule could do so willingly - so maybe extra capacity for sylvania gunners/crossbows also?

There are actually a few "good" Vampires in Warhammer, scattered around among their brethren-in-darkness. Seems to me that their condition tilts them towards evil by default or necessity, but is far from irresistible... there's Gashnag, of course, but also Genevieve if you want an example of a Vampire who's less-than-monstrous for personal reasons. Even one or two Von Carsteins turned out heroic? It's been a while since I read the Vampire Wars anthology, but I'm sure I remember one of them being literally *buried* with Vlad's ring to guard it forever so that none of his 'relatives' could ever pose the same kind of threat that his progenitor did.

Personally I would love a Border Prince DLC. Conceptually I would see this as every game, it would roll amongst the various Border Princes that exist and put maybe only 1 or 2 of them on the map. Obviously if the player picks one of them they show up, similar to the dynamic starts of various other lords, only difference being the others wouldnt be on the map at all. This would give the area a consistently variable style and every game would be different, regardless of who you are playing.

I’ve always found the idea of undead being naturally good rulers and defense against other undead and chaos to be an appealing theme. Sure, usually evil in their own right, but subjective if the lands and people of theirs are relatively safe as compared to any other farmer in regions in the empire or Brettonia.

Hmm no Vlad was not much worse than most nobles of the Empire or Gashnag - as per lore- It is the same as many Vampires who rule humans - plenty of relatively good vamps - Genevieve, Ulrika, Naaima, Gabriella von Nachthafen (whose lore is similar- she is a "relatively" gentle ruler in Sylvania), Khemalla, Marianna Chevaux. Note that even Gashnag has "brutal appetites"....and that he is copying the Lahmians.....He would be ok as a lord but if they pull another "Ghorst" and we get him instead of Neferata or other Blood Line lords that would be awful

When talking about Vlads Empire vision you forgot to mention Isabella the great Balancer. Vlad was shit in Sylvania as a ruler, he has the might not the brain. Isabella is the brain. And just because humanity would become cattle it doesnt mean the Vampire Empire would be "Destructive" or worse than the actual Empire.

Isabella in many books and anecdotes has been described as crazy af, she was the only one capable to calm down Vlad when he was about to tear apart some disrespecting noble or likewise. But the governor was Vlad and Sylvania thrived under his reign

I've been reading the Nights Dark Masters lately and there is a point they mention there. Mutants are allowed to live like people in Sylvania. That's not mentioned much but that's something nice Vampires got going. People with minor mutations like extra fingers or additional limbs that would be hunted down by zealots in other states can live freely in Sylvania. They are also racist but I think that's more on Sylvanians than it is on Vampires.

I think several of the Lahmians actually do good things too - they strengthen the humans against Chaos since Chaos and Vampires go not along with each other. Yes, they see humans just as cattle, but to be honest, that is not very different from many human nobles... The dream of the Lahmians ist not that destructive I think. Of course the humans would live under their yoke but it is not so that they need that much blood, since the vampire-ruling.class would always be small.

Ah yes, good ole Gashnag. Latest Strigoi Ghoul King to try rebuilding the lost empire of Strygos in some way, and the most successful since Vorag Bloodytooth, who was the first of the actual Ghoul Kings in his own right. As for what Strigos even was, the Strigoi weren't always a bunch of vampires who looked like a stupidly muscular mix of Count Orlok and a werewolf; their home empire of Strigos was a pretty nice place where vampires were actually kept on a leash in regards to their feeding habits (criminals, prisoners and slaves were the only people the vampires were allowed to chew on for pragmatic reasons, where'd you think Gashnag got that idea from?). Of course, Neferata (Ushoran's frankly hot as fuck and even pettier sister who's responsible for vampires in general existing) fucked them and their empire over because she really didn't like being upstaged by Ushoran managing to create a vampire-ruled empire (didn't help that she hated him with a vengeance for managing to steal a vial of her bootleg Elixir of Life) when her own attempt with her home kingdom of Lahmia had failed miserably.

probably not "evil" but they seem to lose part of their humanity... and its replaced with something else. they all seem to have great ambition and they are also very prideful, so most of the time they care little for what happens to others, combine that with the hunger and its not hard to see that most will do terrible things to others for their own gain
