but think about it, Harvard is trying to pave a new path. All of the ivy leagues and other institutions were built on slavery which is an ugly truth and history. They also admitted racist and bigots when during the time that ideology was considered the “norm” but it never was. So basically that argument is sort of ignorant considering the fact Harvard doesn’t want to be known for admitting racists in the present.

The Entitlement just jumped out of him. He was just so "shocked" that admissions did their job and looked at what he did in High School. That the "abhorrent racial slurs that he used to be extreme and shocking," got that result. What really got me is when he said "Harvard deciding someone can't grow." How do you grow from something that you knew was wrong when you did it, and the whole point of you doing it was because it was wrong?
@haggisa5 жыл бұрын
kjdnyhmghfvb That’s such a good point. He kind of shot himself in the foot, when he admitted he sent those messages purely for shock value. Which essentially means he was using racial slurs (while objectifying a girl, no less) for his own and his friends’ amusement. Which is supposed to...make this whole situation...better, I guess?
@ajm9355 жыл бұрын
You can grow from it. There are lots of kids who do things like vandalism just because they know it will hurt someone. If he had previously been more vocal about apologizing and doing outreach he could have slithered out from under this. Hell even a post or two about the damage that "shock talk" can incur or some BS about colorblindness would've helped him plead his case. His bad.

@@zammymynakersnackstbmothyou're dumb as hell. Did you even read my comment? I stated he didn't show any growth that's why he can't get out of this. Him even having made the smallest gesture in the past could have helped him but he didn't even do that. His failure is on him. And YES I do believe people can change and it doesn't have to take 40 fuckin years dummy. But it does require them putting forth major effort and public penance to make up for the foul stuff they used to do. Nobody should be able to walk away from their dirt so easy but people who are actually remorseful and have changed should be given a 2nd chance. This "no second chances" mentality is one of the reasons why incarceration as rehabilitation doesn't work.

Why should we cry for a rich white boy not getting into his school of choice! I'm all for empathy for naive youth but people asking we be the bigger person rings hollow as fuck when they don't bother correcting kids that are like this. 1) It is so hard to get into Harvard. They have so many well qualified applicants, and they have to reject almost all of them. They have to find reasons to reject what are often perfectly good students who probably deserve to be there as much as anybody can. Of all the reasons you can wind up rejected from Harvard, I feel like, "You have been found to have made many racist comments on multiple occasions within the last couple of years," is a pretty good reason. Harvard has its standards. Meet them or move on. 2) If the worst thing that happens to you is that you don't get to go to Harvard....welcome to this club called The Vast Majority of Humanity. Nobody cares, dude.

He mentions the shooting at least four times in his twitter thread. Setting aside the racist, sexist messages, that is something I find quite...repellent. He’s using the deaths of his classmates/friends as a shield designed to protect him from the backlash he deserves. That seems really callous and cold-hearted. I guess he has a great future in political PR, though... Also, I’m not sure how the Parkland shooting was supposed to cure him of his racism. Did he wake up the day after the tragedy and realise „my god, kids i knew are dead! That means i shouldn’t use racial slurs anymore!”? How does that work, exactly?
