I remember those Morris Minors being fairly common in Adelaide in the 1960's and 1970's. Our next door neighbour had a green one back in the 60's. Rare these days!

Looiking at the 1st house, I was amazed to see it had never been electrically rewired as it still only had the 1 electrical outlet per room. The exception being in the 1970's revamped kitchen. It's obvious the rear yard once had a good collection of fruit trees and those grape vines look like they are 80-100 years old. Looking at the Ledlight of the first house brought memories of how cold they these places are in winter, and similarly just how hot they can become in a prolonged heat wave, I'm certain I could actually smell it there for few seconds. Thank you for sharing the walk through.
@tisjstme53154 жыл бұрын
I love the unusual setting of the mantle in that first room of the first house, with the curved/fanned on the left and railled on the right. The second mantle was beautiful too even with its symmetry. The ceiling roses being all different, I noticed they did that a lot back then, but I can never figure out which is my favourite. I guess they all are. Wow, that water filter is worth a bit. Not in price but in what it does. I have had one in both my homes for the past 15 - 20 years. They are a godsend when the dams were down at 25% in the early 90's. They had to add so much more chemicals to the water then and the filter removed all that chlorine taste and smell. I love the squeak on those old doors and the old coloured deep baths. Mum's was just like that one. Have seen many toilet seats like that with shells and flowers but never barbed wire and screws. The second house, I saw a fig tree as you went in. Mum had pressed tin ceiling in the lounge and kitchen. Lounge was a floral pattern, kitchen was checkered with sort of mottled spots in the middle of them and a stitch effect between the squares. Just like that but the inner squares where larger with a thin border between. I like the green flowered tiles on the fireplace and the dark wood mantle. Sad to see it so trashed in parts. Had a door key like that. Is that an old Morris Minor car, with the side wall flipper blinkers? My Auntie had one, her's was the 1960's model in silvery grey. Followed by the Morris Major, cream with a brown wing. Can't wait for the third house. Thanks for another look back into the/my past.

The first home was absolutely beautiful, move in ready. The second one looks like someone purchased it and was renovating when the developers came along. I remember my dad having a Morris minor soft top and recall as a child him gong up a hill and the wheel fell off and rolled back down the hill - broken wheel bearing 😂

Excellent, excellent finds, the first I have heard/seen the idea of a 'summer kitchen'. Very interesting vids, beautiful, beautiful homes. Even the sheds were interesting. A good bit of a luck with the 2 morris minors. They are nicknamed 'lowlites'. Edit: the second kitchen may have been a 'scullery' originally.
@donnarawlinsfrench220 Жыл бұрын
Pedantic car nut here: this black beauty isn't a "lo lite" - those, built between 1948-50 had the headlights down on either side of the grille, hence the nickname. The black beauty in this video has the headlights up in a more conventional position on the mudguards. It could be a 1952-54 model, due to the dashboard instrument panel and the rear of the bonnet line. How do I know all this "fascinating" detail? I own both a lo-lite 2 door (1950) and a hi-lite convertible (1955). This video is excellent, as are all the Urbex Indigo vids - wonderful homes, interesting locations, all hugely enjoyable. Many thanks! And I hope someone rescued the car!

I absolutely enjoyed viewing your explore of two charming old turn of the 20th century stone symmetrical villas that gracefully line the Adelaide streets, both with original high ceilings, architraves, ornate fire places and detailed internal door fittings. Both the villas appear to have upgraded roofs, keeping the shape of the existing bullnose verandahs. Both the facades of the villas are made out of existing stone with brick quoins. The first old blue stone villa has contrasting light painted brick quoins and the lime stone home has heritage red painted quoining. Characteristics that I absolutely appreciate with old South Australian architecture. To top off the explore, what a great surprise to find a golden oldie Morris Minor. Such a unique and fascinating explore thanks Urbex Indigo. It is a pity that both the beautiful old villas will soon be demolished instead of restored to formal glory.
@urbexindigo51644 жыл бұрын
Hey Julz! Yep well spotted with the new roofing and they also have both had the brick chimneys removed probably when the did the roof. I think one chimney was still in the second home! Two classics and the large yards again have made them an unlucky target! Cheers for watching again Julz :-)

Very nicely done video ! I will have to run thru it again since it had so many neat things to comment on... but the old Morris Minor !.... I had an old old fellow as my neighbor when I lived in the UK- and he had an ancient Minor of 1950's vintage very like that one -- and he sometimes let me drive it around the village (since he knew I liked old cars)--- My !! but it was small ! and noisy, -- burned oil -- and had springs that were like solid bars of iron- but oh what fun it was to drive ! A tiny little toy car. Thanks for another smashing post ...... I'll have another go-thru of it later ....... :)

Awe Wow! A Morris Minor, I had one early 70’s light green in colour I loved it I used to call it a baby FJ it had bucket seats and 4 on the floor. I remember going around a roundabout and the left hand wheel went flying passed us, I parked on the roundabout and my friend and I chased the wheel passed a set of lights, it traveled a fair way before it came to rest just before a bridge lol talk about laughter. What wonderful memories.

Wow those old homes really had personality, each one had it's own character. I like those old coal fireplaces- coal was used mainly from 1880-1930. They were smaller and shallower than wood fireplaces. I truly hope some of them end up on a historic register so they can be preserved. And hey- you should seriously contact the nearest car museum or auto restoration shop and tell them about the car. That's heritage on wheels right there.

This was just a fantastic explore, Paul!!! That first house was really something, it , in no way, needs to come down. Huge back yard- it looked like they had a small pole barn in the back- was it a horse shelter of some kind? Also, was I hearing chickens in the background? The second house, I wasn't too keen on, but, with the experience of my own house, all that rolls through my head are dollar signs to fix it up. I do hope someone will salvage the parts which can be reused, as too much goes to the dump. The car was gorgeous, never heard of that make/model, but am assuming it is valuable. Thanks for braving the cobwebs, once again, lol....-----Gerri (SDK)

Paul do you know if the developers sell any of the contents to people renovating homes in the city that want an antique vibe? I know in Canada and the u.s.a. there is a bit of a wave using old farm house and antique decor. Those medallions above the lights are incredible and also the Arches with the wood trim! The wood floors and the doors as well as the ornate fireplaces would be great to reuse too! Oh I hope some of these things are salvaged before tearing them down!!

Those yards are epic and hopefully you can report back one day on what replaces those great old homes after the development finishes.The cooker ,that fireplace,stained glass,,,too much to mention but I’d love to know what that oven/ kiln was used for so I’ll track the comments for a few days. Also the car research is very appreciated. Keep up the great work.
