I think I need a Japanese friend, the energy, positivity and overwhelming friendliness is something I need. I hope I can one day visit japan and meet a guy like Ryotaro
@urashimahanaco4 жыл бұрын
Wolfpandataco Drew I guess this is the same as in every nation but I tell you, Japan is not a perfect country... I suppose in Europe people respect human rights more than here in Japan and also animal rights. And, that is One thing I like about Europe and I hate about Japan. Our mindset is like 100 years beyond Europe. I don’t know where you are from but if you live in one certain country you don’t see any good part of your country and you could only focus on bad part. as Japanese, I can see and tell there are more good things in western countries than here in Asia. Not only the human and animal rights issue but also, people here are so nosy and watching about the others all the time. Like, people check your trash that you through away and come up to you and say, hey, today is the day you could only throw away the burnable trash and how come you have nonburnable trash inside your trash... wow, Jesus Christ, that was an old lady but doesn’t she have any better things to do besides checking other people’s waists... and this is not a rare case. In Japan, it’s not something that is set by law but it’s not something nice to make a phone call on the public transportation such as in the subway or train, but I sometimes forget to turn off the bell before getting on board and when my portable phone rings, there are many people say, hey how come you keep your telephone ringing inside the public transportation? Keep it off!!! I’m sick and tired of those stupid social justice warriors here in Japan and when I lived in Europe I have never expressed such bullshit. This country is good only to visit as a tourist and this is a horrible country to settle in.
@YuK_art4 жыл бұрын
Urashima Hanako I totally agree with you about the human and animal rights, that is very sad. I am aware of some of the bad things about japan, but also the good things, they kind of balance each other out. I live in Sweden and I do focus more on the latest bad things instead of the good things, but that’s also because of the political correctness, it’s also racist to do Swedish things here, I remember people got mad because a school raised up a Swedish flag just because it wasn’t any flag from the Middle East. It’s a very extreme example, but it’s still an example. But the funny thing about some of the Japanese societal norms/expectations, I was already similar to some of those, for example the phone thing on public transportation, I never have sound on and I never have someone to call, so it won’t be a problem. I can’t remember any other at this moment, but just, some of the expectations aren’t a problem for me.
@okandokandsson20784 жыл бұрын
@@YuK_art It's absolutely not racist to do Swedish things in Sweden? I can agree with you that Sweden is very progressive and even our conservative parties are pretty progressive, but we are not throwing away our culture. It's gonna stay here for the rest of eternity. That example by the way, could you give me a link to it? I have never heard about it before and I know that there would be more people mad that the school wasn't allowed to raise the Swedish flag. That would make any swede mad.
@YuK_art4 жыл бұрын
Samuel Bäckström okay, first off, I just want to apologize for blowing it out of proportion a bit, it’s a bad habit of mine and I keep screwing up because of it. Secondly, it happened in the village I live in, a bunch of people in my school was mad that they raised the Swedish flag, ofc it didn’t go far, the school didn’t pull down the Swedish flag. So there’s no, like article source, it’s just a memory of a day in my old school. So ofc we were allowed to raise the Swedish flag, people just got mad because the thought it was degrading the Muslims of the school

@@YuK_art Balance each other thing really is a double sword thing. I think you know Japan pretty well, yes, pple here loves harmony therefore they try to balance each other. As a result, if you want to be in the part of society, you can't stay as who you are, and as a result, bullies are everywhere. The world's no.1 suicide rate is not Japan, it's Korea. But in Korea, it's more of an elder population who can not be optimistic about the future that suicide... whilst in Japan there are more of a below teenager population suicide... the number of young pple suicide is way higher than Korea which I think this society is NOT healthy at all. That's the reason why I like Europe. If you're different, pple rarely say you are strange or weird, they accept the difference. I think it's because Europe is a nation of many different countries with many different cultures, in Japan, this is an island nation and pple here seems to be allergic to 'different' types of pple... as a proof, I often hear in many pple's conversation such as "Oh, don't you think such and such girl/guy is strange/weird?" AND, the Japanese looooves to gossip. Watch the Japanese TV, "such and such actress is having an affair with such and such actor".... this type of gossip things are going on forever. Horrible country.

Blobby Thing So what? There are almost 200 countries in the world. Not everyone needs to assimilate their country into cultural globalization. If it doesn’t fit you, you could visit all of the other 194 countries and find loads of people with different mindsets and cultures. Japan was always a country of isolation from the outside world, it’d be a shame if this culture was also lost in the process of synchronizing every country. Coming from europe myself, it’s pretty much a homogeneous blob by now

I see why this is your favorite video of 2016. I too prefer the traditional side of Japan to the high-tech Tokyo life. I met my girlfriend's family in Japan for the first time in 2016 and they were even more traditional than I expected. They took me to Yahiko Village, a Ryokan, and even an Buddhist ceremony during Obon. Needless to say I was the only Gaijin at all of these places but I didn't mind it at all. It felt like I had special access to authentic Japanese experiences which most tourists don't get to see. I wish I could live there but my Japanese is poor and I already have a career as a videographer in L.A. We'll see what 2017 has to offer...

Out of curiosity, did you teach Ryotaro English? Just wondering as his english couldn't be smoother, and the accent he's picked up is hilarious.

Usually, I don't really like Japanese travel/culture channels at all (can't even tell why. Am I the only one?). But I totally love yours and can't stop watching your videos.

Oh God this brings about the memories I first came to Japan and try onsen. I was with my friend Takuya and he undressed casually while telling me to leave my clothes on the rack and I was like, what??? *Culture Shock* But the funniest thing is a Pakistani guy went in afterwards and saw the whole thing and shout "Allah!" and then passed out. His Indian friend dragged him out while apologizing to everyone. Gosh I miss Japan already...

We stayed in a Ryoken in Nozawa this year. A lovely experience. The onset is an experience everyone should try. I found it to be very warm so could not stay in for a long leisurely relax. (I noticed the comment about leaving eggs. You can leave your iPad and laptop and go off for a while knowing they will still be there when you return)

13:20 "female cows" made me chuckle. (Cows are the term used for mature female cattle. Bulls are the male for Cattle. Heifer are the female cattle that has not birthed yet. - with love, from South Africa, where we have cattle walking around in town. xo)
