I love that Aretha was so content being as private as she was. She found a nice balance between being a public figure while not overexposing herself to the world. She's never harsh, but she makes it clear where her boundaries are. Along with her tremendous talent, I think that really helped keep people's interest on her artistry, and not so much her personal life.

Aretha is regal and wherever she went she carried herself as such. Joan was the hardest interview back then. Other artist may have been intimated by Joan but not the Queen. As far as being relieved when you have cared for someone who required that kind of care as Aretha's dad you still feel the loss. RIP to both, the world is different since they both left.

This was one of her best interviews. She was warm friendly. I seen interviews with the Queen of Soul where she was very short, blunt, no smiles. We miss you Aretha. She was very honest and straight to the point here

Joan can seem to joke too much but its because she jokes through her own tragedies but it can come across a little crass in interviewing especially because she is also a fast talker throwing in genuine questions with parts of her comedy routine. Aretha had tokeep a good pace in order to process Joan’s intent.

It is amazing to me how some people who conduct interviews have such little knowledge about the lives of the people they are interviewing. I wonder if Joan Rivers is even cognizant of what it must have been like for someone like Aretha Franklin who was born and grew up in a nation and environment where Jim Crow and Segregation were state sanctioned. Aretha held back so much and exhibited so much grace during this entire interview.

When Joan said we’re you Relieved when your father passed I cringed a little. but I’m glad Aretha clarified her on that one. I understand totally how Aretha was feeling on that because my mom passed from cancer. She was sick for 2yrs and bedridden for 1yr. I felt no relief when she passed.. That type of questioning could’ve gone way left for Joan but I l on ve how Aretha handled it.

I like that Joan asks the questions that she wants. Others would be afraid to ask Aretha certain questions. I like that about Joan. Aretha seemed to get that Joan wasn't trying to be mean or even nosey. Her questions were valid. I miss Aretha too...💕

This interview was really a wrestling match because Joan was trying to get Aretha to open up and Aretha was very guarded and defensive. However, we know that she was intensely private. So I understand that. So in my opinion you had to be a very skillful and tactful interviewer to really get a good interview probably person that very reserved.

I listen to Aretha I listen to the conversation and it dawns on me that throughout all of this no one is thinking about the black men and women being killed. The record companies pitted the younger Natalie Cole against Aretha Franklin (8yrs age difference) and the younger Whitney Houston against Aretha Franklin (21 yr age difference. Mariah Carey against Whitney Houston (6 yrs age difference) and the younger Ariana Grande against Mariah Carey (24 yr age difference) Whitney collaborated w/both Aretha and Mariah. Mariah eventually collaborated with Ariana Grande. Sadly, that never happened between Natalie Cole and Aretha Franklin. 3 of these Divas are no longer with us.
