Thanks for this very detailed video. But I'm missing an important point, which is the screen anti glare threatment. It would be great if you could move it around while having a black screen to see how is affected by ambient light. There is a big difference between different laptop models, and for many of us it is a key decision factor

1440 is such a waste. straight to 4k or stay at 1080p240hz, there are even 4k120hz these days, so just learn to turn a couple settings down. or do what i do and hold out another couple years lol ima rock this 1070 until it stops turning on

@@bradhaines3142 1440p is the sweet spot. Not too heavy as 4k, nor very unsaturated for modern GPUs as 1080p. You got a 1070, so you can't run at either 2k or 4k so you don't know. Get a 3060 and above, the 1440p is the next 1080p, at least on laptops. 4k for desktops I'd say

@@hashhacker2130 youre wrong, i actually did hook it up to a tv and played a few games in 4k. i know how to turn settings down, so it wasnt even a bad experience. surprisingly for me, i even only had to turn it down to around medium settings in borderlands 3. got a smoooth 30fps and if you want to watch any movies or shows, 1440p looks worse than 1080 because shows are either made in 1080 or 4k, never 1440p. because of that the scaling doesnt work out right and no show looks right at 1440 because of it.

Hey Jarrod, there is also a way to enable XTU support on the S17 by disabling the overclocking lock in the BIOS. Can you please test the CPU overclocking on the i9 11900H, as it is partially overclockable? Also in manual mode, PL1 is only limited to 65W, but in turbo it can easily be raised upto 90W, and with Throttlestop, power limits can be overrided anyway.

Hey Jarrod, GizmoSlipTech pointed out that something is off with M16/S17's manual mode, as in manual mode, PL1 caps out at 65W only. However in turbo mode, the S17 goes upto 90W. Can you please test turbo mode with undervolting applied?

Thanks so much for this review!! Bought this laptop (the 165Hz screen variant) and it was delivered to me yesterday. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 atm... For me, the GPU temp does rise to ~83 °C (on Manual mode with fans turned to max speed) when I play for more than 35-40 mins.. yesterday I was playing on turbo and it had gone upto 86 °C. The CPU temp seem fine I guess... Late 60s to early/mid 70s. Performance wise, didn't find any issues. Btw I had changed the display to dgpu in the BIOS (from Dynamic). Online benchmarks do say that the GPU temp should be ~75-76 °C using similar settings.. I do get 75-76 °C of GPU temp, but I noticed it depends on the starting temp of the system.. for example, at the time of starting the game, if the temp is around 37-38 degrees, then the GPU does start at 75, keeps at

ASUS Zephyrus Duo 15 user here; try sitting under a ceiling fan. Since this top vent design pulls air from the top, I've found a simple ceiling fan to make more of a difference to temps than a cooling pad beneath or air conditioning alone.

When I ran shadow of the tomb raider benchmark ultra settings no Rtx, I was getting 141 FPS on 1080p with msi gp76 i7 11800h 3070 140w. Also I was getting better frames on a 4K tv dlss on, Rtx ultra, settings highest, 45fps. I think there’s something about running optimus with 11gen intel that makes it run better.

I've got the 3070 version of this laptop. I overclocked in manual mode and keep the fans running at 100% at all times, and can't hear it at all while gaming with headphones. If I'm watching something just with speakers it's noticeable but not loud enough to overpower the show. This laptop is a beast. Turn off the iGPU in BIOS, UV/OC, and it slays everything.

I see no reason why Asus limited the TGP for the GPU, they could've easily pushed it past 150W irrespective of CPU wattage (upto maybe 70W during gaming). It can clearly handle the temps & even the smaller Legion 7 with no lift-up kb pushes 150W

They said they might possibly increase it to 150 Watts. They have done it on their previous models also. So there are high chances they'll do on this too through a bios update.

Also, just pushing it to 150 watt dosen't make it more powerful, you'll need to optimise it to perform, unlike the legion 7. Legion has the worst software updates and support possible and just because of it I won't prefer it. Also S17 (1440p) performs better than the legion 7

Yeah, they seem to be playing it too safe with the TDP and TGP of this laptop, despite the temperatures being much lower and fans being quieter on all performance modes than most other gaming laptops.

its not all about the TGP but the optimization, the performance you get is subtle when go beyond certain TGP on the die so even with lower TGP on S17 I think it can outperform some 150W gaming laptops, for example the MSI GE77 3080 have the best performance among all the 150W 3080 laptops, i think this may due to using intel 11th gen CPU as they are more power hunger but with higher TGP on CPU they can push more frames compare to just increase the TGP of the GPU.

ok i own zephyrus s17 4K 120 recently, i need it with destop replacement, i want to play well but i also want to do video editing some graphics and streaming netflix amazon prime erc. do you think it was better 2k version? I would also like to connect to an external monitor of course 4K gaming. I thought it may last longer for the next few years. I ask you: 1) in this case was I right to take this? 2) what are the best settings for the game with this machine (does not have advanced optimus nor mux). 3) if I send the screen to 2k in the settings and change the settings in ROG settings or put the fixed dGPU in the nvidia GeForce menu, isn't it like having a 2k without losing the beauty of 4K resolution if I want to change? thanks

Having owned the GX701 this keyboard looks far more comfortable to use. Newegg has the pricing for a 1440p model and its currently $3,299 though out of stock. You can tell this is an ultra premium laptop that really performs amazingly well, but that price.. It's kinda crazy in contrast that you can literally get two G15 Advantage Editions for the price of one of these S17. I think the S17 is an overall nicer looking machine with better specs but that price is a hard pill to swallow... It does really make me want one though lol.

I think it would be wise to wait for more All-AMD laptops for anyone in the market for gaming laptops right now. Intel + Nvidia systems are a complete rip-off, and you get much worse battery life. Strix G15 Advantage is definitely a good start, but intentionally nerfed by Asus to sell their Nvidia models. I can't wait to see what Lenovo and TongFang will come up with All-AMD.

I love the design of the old Zephyrus S17 2019 model and 2020. only problem is the temperature, after a year with the laptop. liquid metal is not good anymore. now my temperature up to 95c. and I changed now the thermal paste, but not liquid metal. Im afraid to repaste with liquid metal.

Wow this is the second coolest Intel laptops I've seen so far. Focusing on cooling makes this such a great option for many. The Alienware X17 also seems to have improved cooling too. Hope to see that review. Other Intel machine from mid tier range probably won't be as properly cooled but at least it has great speeds. Hope to see many more Intel H45 laptops too.

Hi Jarrod 😊🔥, I know my question is slightly out of this topic :D but i desperately need some tips from someone competent (to me u are the most competent in the laptop problem on the internet): in notebooks is there any reason for going with lower latency than CL22 and with dual rank? And I heard that single ranked rams are typicaly faster than dual ranked ones and while in PCs u can achieve dual rank status with 4 single ranked rams which is ideal(PCs have 2slots per channel) in notebook u cant (1 slot per channel) so u need to go with slower dual ranked sticks to achieve dual rank status... NOOO, no gsync on the thunderbolt, ruined it for me. I wanted to plug that into a dock and the monitor into the dock. Why is there always something off with a laptop? Its so hard to find the perfect laptop. Thank you so much for pointing that out, I was planning to buy this laptop, I knew i should of waited for reviews.

It will definitely cost over $3000 and probably hit $4000. Thermal module looks generous but one soldered slot of memory, only one display port connected to discrete gpu, and lack of RGB strips lower its value beneath it seems to be. Me also wonder if it would be an easy job to clean the dust gathering between elevated keyboard and chassis.

No need for scrollable volume to be press-able. It might only break it the future. Wish Asus made a dedicated button beside it to change what it functions as. Screen brightness, volume, etc ..

I choose the Legion 5 Pro over the S17 due to the Corsair software, 17" screen and extra weight. I was also concerned about the raised keyboard mechanics integraty down the road...
