It probably helps them sometimes in exploiting people who have a close relationship with God, but are too trusting/naive to know they're lying sometimes. It's definitely not believable if you're smart and you know of scammers and their tricks, but an unassuming person who thinks they're acting in a biblical way will probably be less fortunate and fall for their evil tricks. Sucks that people resort to that to make a living instead of doing honest work and not exploiting the poor people who do fall for that.

I think the scammer meant, "the so-called." Oftentimes non-native English speaking individuals will substitute words phonically. I once worked for a Swiss gentleman who pronounced "does" (as in, "he does it") like "doughs" (as in, "does, some deer, some female deer"), but always spelled it as "dose" when he wrote it down, adding to the confusion (and a substantial amount of work editing the indecipherable nonsense on his website).
