I miss how in the books Caspian was a lot younger and yet also a lot more mature. He was like 12-14 similar to the Pevensie's age in the first book. He had a lot less pride and jealousy and was almost immediate friends with the Pevensies. And the whole Caspian/Susan thing didn't exist because they were basically still children Something that's different, but I understand was needed for the movies was the change in timeline. Caspian had basically fought half of a whole war and they were out maneuvered and going to loose and then they blew Susan's horn as a last ditch effort for some help. Basically the movie adds a whole lot of angst and looses a lot of plot and politics and strategy. All that said this is still my favorite MOVIE of the series. It might be accurate but I think it's a really solid film all around

I always wish they lingered a bit on the tomb scene just because it is such a heart wrenching thought. They disappeared without a trace. I don’t think it was their tomb, it was the treasure room. I’m pretty sure that’s what the book said. That’s how they knew it was there. Basically it was a hidden room that still had been sealed and never found. I actually have one of the coins from the set in the treasure room, some of the movie props were sold. They’re pretty cool, the props in the movie were actually done very well, lots of detail. It’s been a long time since I read the book, but I remember Trumpkin, the dwarf, after he sees the treasure room he gets a set of armor made for dwarves from there and he says something like, “It would never do to show Nickabrick (the black haired dwarf who in the movie ends up almost killing Lucy) this, never.” Because Nickabrick, although he’s his friend he knows that he’s greedy.

Both Lewis and Tolkien had a shared frustration with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as there’s a passage that says “Macbeth shall never vanquished be, until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill Shall come against him” which hints that the trees will come alive and move - they were both frustrated that the trees didn’t actually come alive in battle but were only used as a disguise for the humans. So in retribution, Lewis had his trees come alive in Narnia and Tolkien created the Ents in LotR!

Aslan didn't help before because the people when they left knew that Aslan wasn't there anymore so they refused to "call" for him (believe that he would come back). After a while they completely lost the faith that Aslan could come back. But when the four of them were called back, Lucy immediately starts to believe, so Aslan comes back. Out of the books they didn't make a movie on, the third book is probably the absolute best candidate for a movie adaptation. We see our four main characters not as children, but during the height of Narnia's golden age, as Kings and Queens of a powerful kingdom. And even though the focus does not rest on them in that book, the whole thing really expands the world beyond Narnia, and focuses on the people who live in that world.

Best book of the series, I have mixed feelings on them not touching it vs not ruining it by making it bad lol
@marshalljarnagin93702 жыл бұрын
@@owenrodriguez5641 as far as I'm aware, the 2nd and 3rd movies didn't have the budget of the first, and were not so profitable. Either way, they're not as bad as some movie adaptations that really make me mad. Certainly the first movie was good anyway. Besides, making any of the other movies besides the 7th (which would be very strange as a movie) wouldn't need the four pevensies in them. And 1 and 3 wouldn't need Eustace either. Plus both 1 and 3 would give great insight into the world of Narnia. 1 would also be a great insight into how the deep magic works, as well as Jadis's evil, evil past. I personally think the 3rd book could be a great adaptation candidate. We get to see so much more of the world, and it's kind of it's own story in the scheme of things. I mean, just think of Shasta in the pass when he can't see whoever is beside him. That would be an amazing scene to see! And we get see Mr. Tumnus again, not to mention just the various scenes where people are just living in the background. Or the 'Calormene storytelling' that goes on. Not to mention if we see flashbacks during the twists oof the book. It would however, be quite difficult to fit in a movie length, which is fair.

So a few things: 1. Did you notice that their dwarf ally was played by Peter Dinklage before he became famous as Tyrion Lannister? The makeup made it hard to see but you can tell from his voice and from his eyes. 2. Something that is explained in the book but not the movie. Rechicheep and the other mice in the story are descendants of the mice that freed Aslan from the ropes when Aslan sacrificed himself on the Stone Table. That's when the mice gained their sentience. 3. The sad part is they only made the first 3 books into movies while the books were a 7-book series. If you want to know the whole story, you'll have to read the last 4. The last book, "The Last Battle", really explains things. Word of warning though, of all the books it is the most preachy.

In case you never ready the books, the wardrobe is magical because it essentially came from Narnia. The old man they lived with? He first went to Narnia in "The Magician's Nephew" he being the nephew. He awakened the witch, went to Narnia, witch is the reason why there's a lamppost randomly in there (because she stole it from the real world and used it as a sword and then threw it into the ground when she was transported back to Narnia). The nephew took an apple from a Narnian tree and brought it back to earth to heal his mother. He used the core to plant a tree and then he turned the tree into a wardrobe. In Caspian, he blew the horn which brought them back. They never go to Narnia the same method each time. Even Aslan mentions that in this movie.

@@lyds6382 The one change from the book that really boils my blood is the "romance" between Susan and Caspian. It was so forcefully shoehorned in there I just have to think it was executive meddling trying to make this appeal more to teens. It's so pointless and doesn't add anything to the story or characters. It makes no sense from a narrative standpoint because Caspian and Susan's own personal storylines do not overlap, they have nothing to do with each other and therefore have nothing to learn from each other. They didn't even have a single conversation so the kiss at the end was so out of nowhere and unnecessary. Their so called "relationship" was comprised of nothing but random glances. Susan in the books was pursued by countless suitors throughout her reign and she rejected them all. Yet this movie makes her fall in love instantly with the first age appropriate guy she sees since she got back to narnia that's not her brother. It's ridiculous.

The Chronicles of Narnia books are quite short, so the entire series is only 15-16hrs on Audible, and has a full cast of voice actors if I remember rightly, so they're definitely something that you'd be able to listen through much easier than the Harry Potter series! There's also 7 books, but only 3 were adapted to movies, so you'll get far more from the overarching story by listening to the books.

Prince Caspian was my first time seeing Peter Dinklage in anything + years later when the first Hobbit movie came out and I saw Balin being played by Ken Stott, I remember thinking 'Hey, that's the badger from Prince Caspian' 😁❤️

I will say the books are definitely worth a read. They are easy to read as in it’s easy to get lost into the book. Good kids books and also good books to read as adults and draw good life lessons from the books. I definitely like the prince caspian book much better than the movie even though I grew up watching the movie and read the book in my later teen years.

Haven't read them in ages but pretty sure In the books aslan is portrayed to be powerful and dangerous like the wild lion god he is, even the narnians felt some fear in his presence Peter Edmond and Susan Etcetera kneel in his presence. Lucy? HUGGS😁😊

What a blessing to see y’all enjoy these movies! They’re very special stories. Although I’m here nearly two years late, to Mr. Oak… I hope you will read/listen to the whole series. These books were published in the 1950’s, so the language is quite a bit different, but these stories have some of the most beautiful lessons and analogies about life that I have ever known. I think your mind will appreciate the immense depth that is presented, and I know it will bless you.

You asked where it was filmed when they were first transported to Narnia in this movie. This part was filmed in New Zealand (where I’m from) it holds a special place in my heart sadly because of this movie it’s a very crowded tourist place now but I love that it was in the movie I always get so excited when I see my home country :D

Something you guys may want to check out (since I know you guys have actually watched all three now for Patreon) is a series on Dominic Noble’s channel caused Lost in Adaptation. He covers what got left out from movies based off of other properties and did a whole one for each of the Narnia movies. He also did a video on the plots of the other books in the series (movies cover less than half of the book series) if you are interested.

Right, I'm late to the party, but you made one comment around 4:08 about if having a faster horse would give you an advantage. Well, there's one example in history I immediately had to think of: During the Second Baron's War in 1265 Prince Edward Longshanks, who would later become King Edward I. of England, was kept in captivity in Hereford. After March of 1265 he was allowed to go out riding with guards and made them swap horses with him. They thought was all great fun, but this way he could determine which horse was the fastest of them all. On the 28th of May 1265 he eventually found the fastest horse, escaped and the rest ist history. I just thought that was a fun little anecdote^^

your rating is high enough and great reaction btw!, the reason why susan and peter won't be returning is that they already learned to be independent...meaning what they are experiencing and learning in the real world, they can apply it in narnia and vice versa, remember they are still at war in the real world and they are living together without their parents... sometimes it takes some ups and downs to be able to move forward and learning from your mistakes... at least that is what i learned when i watched this during it's release...the third movie will be a good one i hope you like it!

They did stay, but they stumbled out on accident. On the other hand if they didn't accidentally leave they would have lived their lives in Narnia and died in Narnia. Since they did leave, they were able to come back when Narnia needed them.

I know this is an older video now so you probably won’t see this or already know, but I think it’s really interesting that you guys thought the books would be MORE detailed, when in fact they’re really short and much less detailed, and movies had to add and flesh out a lot in order to hit the run times they did. Especially the battle scenes go from one or two pages in the books to whole set pieces in the movies

One of my favorite parts of this movie is just how desperate Peter is to prove himself. He was reverted to a 14-16 year old boy after being an adult as well as a king for decades. It truly shows how much that would screw with someone to go from a respected, trusted adult to an unimportant child not worth anyone's time during a world war.

Absolutely love this movie, so glad you're reacting to the Narnia series! In the book Caspian is very different, he's a kid for starters, nevertheless Ben Barnes' performance was really good, always love watching him on screen. ❤️

Fun Fact: At 16:52, when Lucy turns around, you can see Aslan disappearing behind the brush. There's a slight flash of his golden mane that lowers behind the rock.

REEPICHEEP !!!!! Most noble Knight in all of Narnia. Warwick Davis (dwarf Nikabrik) also played Reepicheep in costume in the 1989 BBC tv adaptation of Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The Return to Narnia beach scene was filmed at Cathedral Cove New Zealand, and bridge and river crossing was Soca Valley, Slovenia. Great reaction and scores (Reepicheep is a 10). Liked the movie showed Queen Susan's skill with her bow progresses as she goes from 'used to living back in England' to restoring her faith and fighting for Narnia and for Aslan. A detail many miss, High King Peter shout 'For Narnia' but wasn't victorious until his faith was restored and shouted "For Narnia and for Aslan". Requested an autograph pic long after the movie with a return envelope but forgot about after a few months. Surprised many months later receiving my envelope (it must be magic). In addition to a picture, a handwritten letter thanking me for enjoying the movies and a long apology for the delay as Miss Popplewell was concentrating on her University studies. An amazing kind gesture from a fine actress and lady, a true Queen of Narnia at heart.

@larissab.2001 Жыл бұрын
It's worth mentioning that they changed Susan's personality a little in the films. She doesn't really like going to war, she doesn't like the battlefield, if she can avoid it... she will. I think we might see some of that in the first film. She is diplomatic. In the book "The Horse and His Boy" it is clearer about this.

Well in this case they added and rearanged a lot of things that are not in the book and mostly cut down on the slower parts to make it more epic. I always get made when somebody says Rechicheep is a nock of of the Puss in Boots, because the books are much older then Shrek, so he was there first and he IS a cocky little fellow. Once again I would like to point out their was a BBC series starting 1988. That's how I got introduced to the story because I saw one single episode as a kid of 6 few days after christmas that . It was so amazing.
