The guy has a decent message but he is just very childish and boylike, and so any attempt at edginess in his music is completely futile. Even the arrangements themselves, like it’s clearly trying to be pop punk but it’s just missing beef. Guitars distorted but not loud enough; vocals sang too comfortably - needed some edge but he sounds relaxed when singing which makes it very vanilla; this oersona MIGHT have worked during the MySpace days but it’s just because it hadn’t been done yet, and the concept of the “goofy lovable weirdo emo kid who says rawr xD” didn’t really even do that well back then without the edginess added. He’s like if AI were to generate an emo musician specifically targeted toward Mr Beast fans
