These snacks are so helpful because I think I have been going to bed hungry worried about eating the wrong food before bed and spiking my blood sugar. Now I know I can try these foods out. Thank you.

Sabah khelidj Hi Sabah, Those numbers are above the recommended target for gestational diabetes. A few high numbers like these should not hurt your baby, but it’s important to not leave them this high and to get treatment for your GD. I recommend going to see a doctor or diabetes centre to help you as each situation is unique in GD. In the mean-time you can grab the meal plan, watch your carbohydrates intake, do exercise that your doctor had told you safe for you. Drink water and include protein, fiber and healthy fats. www.fitaftergd.com/meal-plan

I want to start on a healthy diet and came across your video. It is really great guidance to try something at least and hopefully it works for me. I have a qn, I want to know if Materna increases BS levels and what is the best time to take Materna. Thank you.
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV4 жыл бұрын
Yes research shows that prenatal vitamins including materna can increase blood sugars. I would take it with a meal as your blood sugar will go up after a meal anyways.

Hi! Why is my blood sugar higher in the morning (fasting) than after dinner? how does it increase overnight?
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV5 жыл бұрын
Zoya Kidwai Hi Zoya, your fasting blood sugar is higher due to the sugar that your liver puts out overnight. Your liver stores sugar and drips it out 24 hours per day to ensure that your cells (especially your brain cells) have a fuel source. Here is another video on how to improve your fasting blood sugars :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2i0mGuPmptokLs

I have the same bedtime snack every night but my morning numbers fluctuate! 90-105. Its so frustrating. So is it timing? Is it best to check after more or less fasting hours? Its also frustrating because I don't even want the snack. I'm not hungry but I have to force it down because without it my morning numbers were 115.

What would be the best way to adapt to the whole grains on this list if you have celiacs disease? I find that the bread is sometimes whole grain, but it uses flour that is higher on the glycemic index and is harder to regulate with the body.

Hi I’m aware this video is quite old so I’m not sure if you will reply but if you could that will be great. I’m not pregnant however I have been having low blood sugar readings in the morning time, about 9-10am. I am vegan and have started having a morning snack at 10am which is smoothie made or soya milk, oats and a date. I also have a big ish breakfast either of 3 wheat biscuits with soya milk and strawberries or oats with yoghurt and strawberries. I’d normally have breakfast at 8:10am and then my snack at 10am. Do you know why my blood sugars dip at this time? Or can you recommend anything I could add to breakfast or morning snack to make my blood sugars more stable and better? I hope you are able to reply soon, thanks xx
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Unless you are on insulin or a medication to lower blood sugars or you have reactive hypoglycemia low blood sugars are really an issue. If you are on a medication that lowers blood sugar and you are having lows I would look at that first. However, I did notice that your breakfast doesn't have much protein and depending on the type of yogurt, possibly not a lot of fats either. That may help more blood sugars more stable if you added more protein and/or healthy fat to your breakfast meal. Hope that helps :) If you are having a low blood sugar reaction remember to treat as per your doctors instructions to be safe.
@orang14144 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for replying so soon :) Im not taking or on a medication for insulin or diabetes. I use soya milk with my wheat biscuits and soya yoghurt with my oats. Im aware that soya does contain a good amount of protein? I was thinking to possibly add a little bit of chia seeds to my morning smoothie if my blood sugars do not better after a week or so. Do you have any suggestions of vegan protein sources I could possibly add to breakfast or morning snack? Thanks again for your advice :) xxx @@PregnancyandPostpartumTV

You can play with the timing (8 hours vs 10 hours) and play with the type (adding more protein or fat) you can play with the carb (no carb vs. more carb). You can also try adding activity during the day or other suggestions in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2i0mGuPmptokLs

Yes, some people will reduce carbs and still get high sugars due to insulin resistance and not making enough insulin to overcome it. Hopefully you are working with a diabetes team to support you. Sorry it’s so frustrating.

This was very informative, I'm just starting out with meal planning and I'm hoping I'm doing it right. Now i noticed you would subtract the fiber from the carbs and then have a lower carb intake. Why is that? Should I be doing that too?
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi DonnaLyn! Fiber is included in the total carb amount, but it is a type of carb that doesn't increase blood sugars so that's why we subtract it. Yes, you can subtract it :)

What should be the blood sugar level to determine that a bedtime snack should be consumed?
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ratika 👋 It’s not ever about 1 blood sugar, but about the trend. So I wouldn’t not eat if my sugar was a little higher. But I would look at the trend and think backwards to what I had for dinner, how many/ what type of carbs, what activity I did that day etc. to look forward to the next days. And of course sending it in to your doctor/diabetes team

@PregnancyandPostpartumTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane! I would work backwards from when you wake up and test your fasting. Many women do well at 8 hours, but you could also try 10 hours to see what helps your fasting blood sugar the most. So if you test at 7 am you could try 11 pm or 9 pm.
