The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers over the weekend to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Joel Embiid scored an admirable 31 points, made 11 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to keep Trae Young from leading his team to a Game 7 win. Chris Broussard joins Nick Wright and the First Things First crew to decide if Young's emergence was a bigger deal, or was the Sixers' second-round exit and Ben Simmons' performance a bigger story.

Ben Simmons gets paid max money to do his job. Stop feeling sorry for a guy who refuses to work on his craft. Has been saying the same things since 2017 "I'll work on it". Enough excuses. The guy loves the lifestyle that comes with playing in the NBA yet he doesn't work at all on his game. He literally has gotten worse since his rookie year. 0% from 3 34% from free throws (worst in NBA playoffs HISTORY) can't shoot from 5 ft away from the basket This is the result of pampering this guy.

Ive said it a million times and I will say it again. Watching both Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons in college and in the NBA, I kept saying Brandon Ingram is a better player than Ben. It is just an opinion but I dont believe people will disagree that Ingram at the end of the game is a liability. He has grown and shown he can be a pretty clutch player and isnt afraid of the moment. As a lakers fan i watched a ton of brandon ingram but I also watch a ton of NBA. I have seen improvement from Brandon....Ive seen NONE from Simmons.

Ben Simmons is such a bum. Literally hogs the lane every time by standing on the dunker spot. And the guy is terrified of shooting even layups. Not to mention his free throw % (WORST in NBA PLAYOFFS HISTORY) and his atrocious 0% from 3 lmao. Gotta feel sorry for Embiid, curry and Harris. It's always 4 on 5 on offense so they always have to take tough shots
@j0fiz986
@j0fiz986 2 жыл бұрын
Finally someone gets it. Bens buckets really p*ss me off. He draws out embiid from the paint to the perimeter with sometimes double teams... That's because Ben is no threat. So embiid is forced to take tough shots and if that misses... Suddenly Ben comes alive with an attempt at an easy put back. So embiids shooting percentage goes down while Bens goes up. I think Ben is just protecting his shooting percentage for some reason. I'd be furious if that were me.

If this is high school, I don’t like Doc’s comments. If this is college, I don’t like Doc’s comments. If this is a rookie, I don’t like Doc’s comments. But in the NBA, for a player who came in the league in 2016, has around 4 years/140 million left on his contract (causing limitations on other talent Philly can go get), I don’t have a problem with Doc’s comments.

The guy will earn 100+ million dollars, there is literally no reason whatsoever for him to improve. And the same narrative can be used to James Harden, why he should strive to be a better leader, a better go to guy, franchise player and so on... if he can thrown away 25+ million and sign with a super team. 25 million and higher taxes in NY will make any difference for Harden? Of course not. The more the NBA keeps signing ludicrous TV contracts, that means everyone gets overpaid = everyone don't care. Why do you think the NBA is in such a pathetic state? Terance Mann scoring 40 pts in a playoffs game? The ratings dropping consistently for 20+ seasons, the "final" series in that Disney resort had the worst audience of the NBA finals history. The product they are offering for us nowadays is objectively bad, the numbers don't lie. And players don't care because they don't have financial incentives to improve, neither the competitive incentive because if LeBron's cowardice was accepted by the media and fans with time, why should they care?

Many thought that he had a poor man’s lebron type of skillset early on, and I thought that he and embiid would resurrect 6ers championship basketball that existed back in the 80s I think it was. But it’s gotten to the point that the man is shot mentally. He has the yips, and he just doesn’t want to shoot or play typical basketball anymore. He’s all inside his own head, and it’s sad. Talent like his shouldn’t be wasted like this. He needs mental help before he can properly get the physical help he needs

@Garrett Grier Oh for sure no doubt about that but at the end of the day he has to make those shots. Joe Harris is a prime example of a role player not making open shots. Huerter wasn't scared of the moment at all. Trae and the Hawks are lucky to have a player like that.

Ben Simmons is Exhibit A for why guaranteed contracts are a problem. There was no incentive for Simmons to get better. But Philly's problems go past Simmons. There's no veteran leadership on that team.

Maybe Doc wasn't right to talk about Ben Simmons like he did after the game but since when are we not allowed to change opinions on a player after seeing how they play in the future. Thats so tribal. I'd say get rid of Doc because this is his 4th big playoff blunder in series where his team should've easily won. Not to hate on the Hawks but they are not a championship caliber team and on paper they shouldn't have a chance against the Sixers. Trade Simmons because he needs a fresh start and at this point his psyche is likely never going to get better by playing in the same place. He needs a wake-up call to improve because he hasn't since joining the league. Get them both out and you still have Embiid so you're not even starting from square one.

Hawks aint a championship calibur team but when this matchup was apparent I immediately knew Hawks would win and maybe even sweep. If you thought the Sixers have a better roster than the Hawks you're trippin and Hunter is even out. And hey, Doc can't knock down free throws and jump shots. He can't play marionette with Tobias Harris to force him to go get a bucket. Ice Trae gonna light it up game 2....

What is that 65+ points between the three of them? Not gonna cut it in the playoffs when its more physical. No one who follows the NBA closely thought they would have a chance in the playoffs against a team with actual weapons and shooters.
