I remember 7 years ago when I was 21 and addicted to lifting weights, I just had a killer workout, was feeling the pump and walked out of the gym feeling like the Rock.... I was stretching outside when this man who appeared to be in his late 50s approached me and said: "Hey young man, I bet you a hundred bucks you can't do these". He then proceeded to do one handed push ups and my jaw dropped, he did around 50 reps with speed. I tried and couldn't even do one. It wasn't until I found thenx videos that I remembered this little story. I hope to be able to get to the level of fitness of Chris in the future!

Deadlifts and squatting have actually fixed my lower back. I thought that it would make it worse but it hurt because of weak muscles and bad posture both we're fixed with weight lifting. I did body weight and kettle bell for a year and I have made much more progress with weight lifting in the same time period.

One of the benefits I'm into Calisthenics is how enjoyable (and mentally challenging) they are, I used to be fat AF couple months ago, even ex gf dumped me lol. I learn a lot to not give a f on hardships and keep progressing on my life, HUGE thanks to Chris vids (and others like AthleanX and Calist move). TBH, I like doing both (and gym) just great. One challenges and supports the other, dynamics just like Yin-Yang.

How do you balance gym and calisthenics? I've been going to the gym for a bit over a year and now getting interested in a bit of calisthenics. What I do right now is 3x gym 1x calisthenics so I get chest back, arms, legs and a variation of upperbody calisthenics.

I’m the opposite to you guys, been doing calisthenics for over a year and just started lifting weights. I’m trying to go to the gym twice a week and then I do calisthenics at the park 4 days a week, and I’m doing pretty well.
@pmbfit
@pmbfit 5 жыл бұрын
@@stillustus9847 On some parts or moments, you have to choose. I mainly use Calisthenics workouts for my upper body. I use gym machines/tools whenever I have troubles with certain body parts (soreness etc) or when I feel to really isolate a certain muscle. At my place, gym membership is very affordable (but don't imagine it's as fancy as Golds Gym etc), so it's not a big deal for me to do both, while getting most benefits doing both.
@stillustus9847
@stillustus9847 5 жыл бұрын
@@pmbfit Well yes, there are choices to be made. I would still not like to cut off any gym yet, I think I want a more smooth transition than that. Right now I try to do both in the same workout, which I think is fine. For the more extreme calisthenics you might have to make choices to cut off a bit more of the weight training.

In some ways calisthenics are superior to lifting weights. True, you wont get big from doing calisthenics, but you will have more control over your own body and more functional muscles. Free weights are generally preferred over machines because free weights require more stabilizing muscles. But calisthenics require even more stabilizing muscles than free weights. As far as overall conditioning it can't be beat.

Think about it this way u start with calisthenics when u feel like it is to easy do it weighted if that gets to easy then do o limb training 1 limb training to ez weighted if that to easy then explosive 1 limb weighted training then when that is to ez well u have no choice except to start power lifting ultra heavy

You actually can get big from doing calisthenics. Kali Muscle is an absolute monster and only does calisthenics and he looks like a straight bodybuilder! And that's only one example, there are multiple people that are huge from only doing calisthenics. It does take a lot longer, but, you can still get big from calisthenics. 🏋🏋💪💪
@davepazz580
@davepazz580 5 жыл бұрын
What I've learned over the years is that how "big" you get really goes beyond the simple choice of "weights vs. calisthenics"... It will have much more to do with other factors such as genetics, diet, adequate rest, consistency, effort, etc.. Now, I would agree that one could potentially develop more muscle size by lifting weights and do so far quicker than with calisthenics... But that's not going to happen simply because you chose to lift weights... you have to consider the factors I listed earlier. Also, while you could potentially develop more muscle size from weights, it's not going to be a "night and day" difference from what you can get from calisthenics alone... Unless your goal is to become a serious bodybuilder, you most likely won't notice much of a difference in results.

Chris you are awesome brother, I am 63 yrs old and used to be in the best fit shape of my life as I trained for years in Sil Lum Chaun Fa. As I got older I tried to gain more muscle and compensate the body fat by using a weight machine and free weights but found it can stress the body, bones and decrease my flexibility movement. I just happened by your video and you are a god send and have opened my eyes and brought me back. Getting back to using your own body weight exercises along with what Gung Fu uses which is isometrics, dynamic tension, and some isotonic is what I needed. In my older years it is far more important for me to have that explosive energy along with flexible tones muscle than to try and look like one of those old weight lifters with huge arms, a big waist and a big trunk. Thanks Chris for opening my eyes with your knowledge, re evaluation is on. Edward..

Man I used to do parkour back then, but I stopped for sometime I already knew about calisthenics but I wouldn't workout and put on some weight. After remembering watching one of your videos a while back and missed doing parkour. It's been a month and a half that i made a workout routine with your videos and dropped pounds I'm so glad I made the change to workout and ran into your videos. Thank you, thank you for making videos because without them other people including myself wouldn't have been motivated to make the change!

Chris it is the progressions that make all of the difference. I have talked to so many people who can't do more than 1 pull up. I show them the Australian pullups. Just like in the Thenx app. Then I suggest pull ups with resistant bands. I couldn't do more than 2 pullups 2 months ago. Now I can do 10. You can see the light come on in their head. It really is awesome to see how encouraging it is.

Just started Calisthenics because of COVID and most gyms being closed in California. Your KZbin channel is GOLD for me. I've always focused on muscle mass and lifting weights at the gym. Now I realize how weak my strength to body ratio is though. I'm pretty overweight and my new goal now is cutting this fat, increasing my stability and increasing my muscle endurance. Already have my nutrition in check, now it's time build my body strength. Pistol squats here I come!

Reason I went from gym to calisthenics as a beginner is because the body you get from calisthenics is much nicer. It's more proportional, where as gym usually makes some parts too big and it doesn't look too natural. Looks like a balloon.
@piotrekuygiutf4946
@piotrekuygiutf4946 5 жыл бұрын
That's not true but most people think steroid body=gym body. If you want perfect proportions it's easier to get It with weights. But you have to have knowledge which most gym bros don't have. But anyway cslidthenics is better in almost every aspect.

I started watching Thenx/Chris videos about three months ago and i'm thankful i did it because i didn't really know calisthenics before them and now it is really growing on me. Before these videos i could only think about how boring it looked to me to go to the gym and lift weights (and stuff like that) so i've always preferred to stay at home and train with some light weights and some compound exercises (i didn't know many of them). And i never progressed much because i dind't have much of a tecnique and my training sessions were not effective enough. Since i discovered these videos, it's like i discovered a whole new world. Now i enjoy training, i find it challenging in the best way possible, i'm motivated to get better and stronger. I can easily do my workouts at home or anywhere i go and make them harder without filling my room with weights. Thank you for creating this channel and for posting so many helpful videos! ❤
