When I saw your husband helping you to loosen out your braids, I felt so proud of him. So many black men hate black women natural hair, they always seem to encourage black women to straighten their hair with relaxers, and damage their hair with chemicals. Keep encouraging black women to love their own natural hair. I am a mix race female, who have always admire black women who can grow their natural hair long.

Yes it does. If only most of us knew how important water was for detangling or manipulationing our natural hair while growing up. Instead, many of us were being told to avoid water so we could protect our hair styles. At times we should avoid water when you don't want a certain style messed up but other than that our hair needs water or moisture as often as possible to thrive and grow.😊

I use a brush iron after blowout to straighten my hair, and the night before I do this, I deep condition my hair, wrap it up in processing caps, aluminum foil cap, towel, edge protection wrap and sleep on it... next morning I wash the excess out, blow dry it and brush it with the brush iron at 390 (I use argan oil and other heat protectants in the deep conditioning) and I do the same thing at night. I put my hair in a bun on the very top of my head, as I learned, this is the only place where my hair won't break off. I put like a felt head wrap about my edges to keep them from being rubbed out or messed up by my night cap. I also got satin pillow cases as a back up incase the head covering comes off. I learned to do this from another girl on youtube years ago, wish I could remember her, she was the one who told me about heat being necessary to get moisture into my hair. My mom and other idiots told me to use cold water to wash my hair and stay away from heat, which ended with me having hair that was so dry, it literally rejected water and coiled in on itself instant dreadlocking in the shower, sometimes so bad I had to just cut my hair or use a relaxer just so I could detangle. Everything you said in here was definitely on point. I'm just glad there are people out there spreading the word to help sistas out here who're struggling like I was.

Your hair is freaking beautiful 😍 (I'm not being negative so dnt come for me lol) but I was told/taught that OIL isn't a moisturizer. Oil is use to keep moisture IN after putting in a cream for moisture.
@MzCrayKray3 жыл бұрын
That is true but the oil is also use to smooth the hair down when you unravel the twists/braids. This helps to minimize frizz.
@kimmcfadden76793 жыл бұрын
I used the lightest touch of oil (Apricot Oil) on my hair and mainly on the ends in mid shaft of maybe I never put oil on my scalp... not necessary for my hair type (and skin type which is oily anyway), my density & the diameter of my strands which is very mixed throughout my head. I only use oil as a sealant but water is more important for me moisture that's why I moisturize my hands when take a down strands taking down twists and braids which is about daily and it makes a big difference especially if you have low porosity hair.
@RellsPositiveMusic3 жыл бұрын
I was taught that too,but then found out that, yes, most oils are sealants and keep moisture in,but there are a couple like olive oil that actually do penetrate,and nourish the strands rather than sitting just sitting on top. I use olive oil after applying water,and a leave in.

Side note, it's not great for people with high porosity hair to detangle hair when it is wet. Hair is weakest when it's wet so flooded with water open cuticles it not a good combo Better to detangle on dry hair with oil and not to let your hair get matted.
