I really don't believe his sisters who were the victims of molestation by their brother were asleep. They more than likely pretended to be asleep because of fear and embarrassment. I can remember pretending to be asleep so that I could escape what was happening to me. It took me almost fifty years to come to terms with being molested. I couldn't even tell anybody for years. The most unforgiving part of Josh’s history for me is the 5 year old victim during bible study. I can’t process how his parents tried to cover that up, it’s so disturbing. The original sentence suggestion with a guilty plea and no trial was 10 years. I assume a plea bargain is 40% of the sentence so that is 25 years. I doubt that a judge would relish showing toddler snuff videos to the jury without penalty. Time will tell.

@@ginaordonez9371 recommended sentencing with a lodged guilty was ten as offered. Josh said no and dragged it to trial, and was convicted on both counts of downloading and possessing. Those ten-year sentences can be stacked and served concurrently, and if he behaves in fed prison (which are quite cushy compared to state prisons) then he can be out on parole halfway through his sentence. Per offence is ten years. Likely he'll be convicted 10-12 years. We'll see him back out in his community by around 2027.

As a child this happened to me by my father, many year after I had left home at 14, I asked my mother why she stayed with him. Her response was I had 6 other children what did you want me to do, I was shocked for this gave me what I always thought she knew all the time. Later learning he also abused my other 4 sisters. When he died I couldn’t have more happier for 3 weeks before he died he made a sexual comment about my daughter. @@betheecommentator I do not happen to believe any victim of any type of sexual abuse as a child ever fully recovers from the trauma. This is something that will be with the person for the rest of their life. Even with professional help to assist them with coping with the trauma. They learn to cope with it. They learn to understand all the confusion and questions surrounding it. Depending upon one’s age when this happened to them, when it began, how long it went on for etc the child May repress the feelings and memories until later in life when it all resurfaces. Usually when much older perhaps even as adult. At this time is when the seek help bring it to attention of the parents, confront them as well as the abuser. I also believe a parent had to be aware of something. How could they not. For numerous reasons yhe parents may look other way. Especially if abuse has stopped occurring. Even then the victim may have difficulty convincing a parent. One or other parent simply will not acknowledge this happened making things more difficult for the child who was abused. Young children especially if abuse is happening to them by a family member, a loved one may be someone the child loves and Trust and even looks up to, May have in child’s eyes have great and close relationship with the person. Young children are not equipped with tools necessary to understand and process what’s Happening to them. May be told certain things by abuser. They simply do not have the intellect, reasoning and maturity to do so. To tell anyone. To confront etc. I believe and know ( as one who experienced these things which began at very young age and continued for number of years by a family member I thought was great and I trusted) although help was sought, parents and abuser were confronted counseling was received the memories and trauma remain forever (now way over 65 yr old). We learn to cope and place it away on a shelve so to speak in order to live a positive productive and happy life as well as a positive healthy relationship with a partner for life. When one parent believes yet another refused to it even more difficult. The person remains scarred for life no matter how much help and therapy was sought out and received. The abuser Must be held accountable and should Never be protected by anyone no matter the level of accountability. Thank you.

Just think how different Anna would have been if she’d had a regular, mainstream, moderate upbringing, regardless of whether or not religion was part of her life. I could see her being a kindergarten teacher, with one or two kids, a stable and healthy relationship partner, and a true sense of morality. Her conviction to her moral compass is strong, but the compass she was given is broken. It tells her she is going north, but everyone with a working compass knows she is going south east, but she is convinced she will find her way to her destination, even if it takes longer. She could have been such a good person if she was given a working, rational moral compass. Josh… seems to have a darkness born into him, but if he had a regular upbringing with a sane, rational family who had a manageable number of children and a balanced view of religion and morality, he would have gotten real consequences. He’d have gone to Juvie to show him what happens when you disrespect boundaries the first time anyone said something about boundaries being crossed. He would have then gotten therapy to find out what is firing incorrectly in his brain, making boundaries, respect, morality, and empathy confusing to him. With proper counseling and possible medication, he’d learn the things most of us learn naturally, and deeply regret his ‘childhood mistakes,’ which would have probably also been less severe in a regular, healthy family. Hell, if he had been given a healthy message about sex, it may not have even been sexual… just fighting with his siblings and other kids over trivial things, or taking personal items that weren’t his, without permission, but instead, he was taught that what he did was on the same level as giving a girl a ‘front hug.’ Just ‘inappropriate,’ and not abusive. I bet there were warning signs before he did what he did to his sisters, back when he was under puberty age, that showed he was lagging in learning things like respect, empathy, and boundaries, but they were similarly not addressed.

I was raised by a very southern set of parents. First thing that would have happened if I were a male would be as they always said “ you’re going to get a visit from us behind the barn!!!!”. The police report is public and was made in 2006. Josh only admitted to some parts of molesting his sisters. Jim Bob and his church pastor took Josh to the Arkansas police station in 2003 because a member of their church told them about him molesting her. The officer Joe Hutchens did not press any charges against Josh for molestion. Officer Joe Hutchens was arrested and charged with 60 years in prison for child pornography. The pastor to the Duggar family Dr. Ronnie Floyd said God will forgive Josh. Guess what, Pastor Ronnie Floyd in 2019 had to resign because he was facing charges of of child pornography. This list just goes on and on. Obviously you would raise young girls to not report any sexual encounters with a ring of child molesters pretending to be pastors.

I grew up in a variation of this movement (Independent, Fundamental Baptist) and you did a phenomenal job of discussing this with accuracy and compassion. Abuse is so easily ignored, misunderstood, excused, explained, and underreported. This movement uses shame and ignorance to prevent victims from a) understanding that they've been abused and b) telling a trusted adult. And when they DO, their "trusted adult" wants to move past it quietly and quickly. It is never healing or restorative for victims, and abusers are rarely appropriately disciplined. As women, we are taught from an early age to trust men as leaders and heads of household; it is seen as the evil influence of the world or the devil when a men misbehaves, so they are individually not held fully accountable. I am a Bible believing Christian and cannot in good conscience be a part of any movement that tolerates abuse. Sadly, the story of Josh Duggar is not the exception; this happens with some frequency. While many people are happily and safely involved in this religion (cult), many others are not.

Honestly I think that as long as the world questions Anna and her “choice” to stay with Josh and support him she will continue doing just that. I don’t see her as weak, I see her as a woman that believes she is fighting for god just as much as she is fighting for Josh. If the world stops judging her and criticizing her every breath then she won’t be forced into a constant state of survival. If she is given the opportunity to live without the fear of scrutiny and is finally able to lower her defences I feel like her god will let her see that she does not owe her life to a man that is not this godly man he and his parents have led her to believe. She will not leave him until god shows Josh to be a servant of Satan and not a true Christian. Does that make sense? Another thing that just occurred to me is that I wonder if Josh made Anna feel like it was her fault that he was looking at porn and cheating because she wasn’t fulfilling her wifely duty and she felt like she just needed to make herself available to him more and then things would be ok and he would not stray outside the marriage and that is why she continued to get pregnant and try to please him.

This case is sickening, and one that I am sure has repeated itself in like minded families. It's disgusting. It is obvious that women in this family do not matter. Josh never actually confessed to his parents. One of the girls told on him. They lied on national TV. Just like they lied when they said that the girls were asleep and did not know that he had touched them. The police report is very clear on that.

His picture just goes to show you can't judge someone by how they look. I've heard children say, He looks like a nice guy about men. When my kids said that I'd tell them they couldn't tell how a person was by the way they looked! Although Josh is a "bad" guy I don't think a family who is super strict means they're in a cult. The parents were wrong with the way they handled the situation.
