I grew up in fundamental cult like religion. I remember around the age of 13 I started asking questions about some of the teachings. That was a wrong move! I spent WEEKS being counseled by church elders (one being my uncle). During church I was brought up front and prayed over to release the demons that had a hold on me. The reason I started questioning things I was like Jinger I was terrified of receiving God’s wrath. I NEVER slept because I was terrified that the rapture would happen and I’d be left behind. I couldn’t comprehend a God of love was ok with me being scared all the time. I broke away from the religion and was shunned by everything that was familiar to me. Im 56 years old. I still consider myself a Christian but I have completely turned away from organized religion….☮️💗🙏

I'm 41y and have no contact with my family not even my extended. Non of them have ever met my kids. I also at around age 12 or 13y started asking questions. I also got a bit rebellious. Nothing major just normal preteen stuff and my parents made me go to counseling. My uncle and grandpa were the deacons of the church so I had to start there. By age 16y I got pregnant with my son and my parents church had me go up to the front to get prayed over then they told me I was no longer welcome to attend. My father had my bags packed for me after lunch and that was the last I saw them. Today I have 6 Amazing kids. A wonderful husband. We go to a non-denominational church. Where I still find it very hard to trust. I go back to the beliefs that were ground into my brain growing up and I have to remind myself all the time that the God I love now and that loves me is not the one who I was taught about as a child. I would NEVER want my children to be taught the way I was.

I know many are upset that Jinger has settled into hardcore Calvinism, but this kind of deprogramming comes in waves and stages, and just the fact she is speaking out against the IBLP and Gothard is really admirable as that cult is very powerful over its members. Perhaps Jinger's example of leaving the IBLP but still having a relationship with Christ will inspire others to leave the IBLP because they can leave with faith intact.

@@kris78787 Most people in any kind of religious organization believe their doctrine is right and all others are false. Jinger has every right to be public about how IBLP dogma was damaging to her growing up. What I do have a problem with is when people proselytize and try to convince others to subscribe to their particular theology, because it's the only "true" one and if they don't, they'll suffer terrible consequences. @@kris78787 "True gospel" is a relative term for the simple reason that the Bible is the world's ultimate Rorschach Test. Everyone who reads and ponders over it sees something different. Any individual or organization that sells themselves as being privileged with "truth" that escapes others is full of hot air. If that's what John MacArthur and the Vuolos do, they're full of it, too. Whatever sense of spirituality or faith a person has that helps them through life, that's wonderful. I am a 56 year old Christian man. Throughout this interview I have noted the following: Jinger in an intelligent person who speaks straight straight and eloquently; her words are well thought out and the arguments she presents are on point: she is a beautiful young woman: the outfits she has chose for her interview are entirely appropriate for her age married or not: anyone like Gothard or JB who would claim that the shorts she was wearing on the beach were anything but appropriate has a problem. If a boy, teen, young man or any other aged man has difficulty controlling their “urges” or keeping themselves appropriate because of the clothes a female chooses to wear, it is that male who has the problem, not the female. Both of my sons and both of my daughters were taught that they and they alone are responsible for their own thoughts and deeds. All teens need to be raised to control their own lust, which is natural by the way, rather than place their lack of self control on others. The IBLP is sick in their teaching and does not follow the word of God.

"Her outfits are entirely appropriate for her age married or not" My guy. Please do not make needless comments like that. It is dehumanizing, it minimizes their sense of agency, and from the tone of your comment I can tell you're not the kind of guy to do that knowingly :). What a woman wears does not define her or excuse the behavior of men, which you do say later on- and it is why I know you did not mean to do so. And, y'know.. throwing in that part about being unmarried was also highly unnecessary, and it makes your compliment feel kind of backhanded. I just wanted to let you know, because you very clearly have good intentions and didn't realize how that may be perceived. I am sure your words came from a warm, loving place. Saying how strong and eloquent she is, is what women want to hear far more, especially from men they do not know. Its not a big deal though, I'm just giving some food for thought. It is also pertinent to remember that bisexuals/pansexuals and lesbians exist, and sadly, we may not even have the right to marry anymore very, very soon- so marriage is not a qualifier for the value of a human being. I don't believe that is what you meant to say, but that was how it was written. Again, not a big deal. Just something you may want to know since you seem to be a sweet dude. Other than that, I agree with you whole-heartedly!!! You definitely have the right idea, and its great to hear that religious people are more and more accepting of others and not victim-blaming! That is very exciting, and encouraging to hear. More men need to share POSITIVE masculinity with one another. It is sad that many of them see standing up for or being respectful to women without being "after something" as "white knighting" or call them "beta cucks/simps" or whatever. It is infuriatingly toxic, and everyone loses. So thank you for doing so, even if it isn't the most popular opinion with a lot of other men. For now, anyway. The fight for our freedom never ends, but hopefully one day, we may get to fight less.🖤✨

I was married for a long time to someone with very similar religious views, not sure if it’s the exact same but eerily close. Sadly some believe that the wife signs her consent away to the husband when she signs the marriage certificate. I was told much too late: “you consented when you married him.” The wife is under the husbands “umbrella of protection” but it’s more like a control thing. The husband is above the wife just like the wife is above the children, but the wife is not an equal to the husband. They’re taught that boys and men can’t control themselves and that women should never say no to their husband’s sexual advances. A lot of them are brainwashed to think that it’s not assault if you’re married. It’s very sad.

I grew up Pentecostal/Apostolic and had a lot of the same restrictions on my life as the Duggars. The entire religion is so based in fear and isolation. Because I was vocal and asked a lot of questions, I was constantly punished and used as an example and told that I was full of demons. The sexual abuse was rampant, and was always the woman's fault. I was blamed for wearing shirts that were too tight at age 12. Thankfully I left as soon as possible, but that sort of upbringing causes so many traumas that I'm still dealing with. I can only hope that she continues to heal and I wish her the best.

I went to a catholic school until 6th grade but I always felt awkward and out of place there. So for most of my 20's I turned my back on all faith and lived a wild and dangerous life. I almost died one night so I prayed for the first time in years and promised to live a better life if He let me live. I started reading the Bible for myself. I met a wonderful Pastor who welcomed me in to their Apostolic Pentecostal Church. He told me to come in my pajamas if I wanted to lol. They NEVER told me how I had to dress or how to live. They just accepted me warts and all and love me deeply. My Pastor's wife gives half of the sermons sometimes because our church doesn't elevate men over women. They don't add or take away from the Bible. I've been a member of my church for over ten years now, maintain my sobriety and raise my beautiful children. I eventually made the choice for myself to dress modestly. I'm the kind of person who will do something twice if someone tells me I can't lol so it was definitely my choice. It's going to be a choice for my daughter too. We can't force our faith on anyone, not even our children. That's when things start to get ugly, when force and fear are applied.

It is literally impossible to give adequate and individual attention on a daily basis to 20 children. I feel that when you’re pushing past 6-7 children, it becomes selfish and unfair to the other children. Not only do they not receive attention they deserve, they are forced to adopt a parental role in helping raise the children, more so than the normal feasible expectation for older children to help out to a degree.

It’s kind of silly to say that she can’t give attention equally to 20 children. It’s not 20 children. When my youngest of 8 kids was born, my oldest was 19. When people exclaimed “Wow, 8 kids!” I’d say, “Well, 1 is an adult, 3 are teens, only 4 are kids and 4 kids is not hard at all.” The dynamics of a large family operate differently than a small family. No, my older kids did not raise my younger kids, but they did watch out for them, usually without me telling them to. The younger kids don’t need as much individual attention simply because they have so much attention from older siblings as well as parents. Sure, their are families that don’t do this well, but some of us rock this. My youngest is now 14 and my oldest is 33. They all love being in a large family. A supersized family has their own dynamics. I don’t believe older kids helping out means they are raising them. It’s just part of being responsible and part of a team. No family is perfect, but the size isn’t the problem. There are tons of families with 1 or 2 kids whose parents don’t pay attention to them.

When I was 10 my older brother dued. A month later my stepfather (who had been molesting me) left my mother for someone else bc he couldn't be married to someone who allowed themselves not to have it together "just bc her kid died". After that my mom lost it. She needed to talk to someone, anyone. She got the phone book out one day and opened it and the first thing she found was the Mormon church. She called and they came right out to talk to her. After that we spent about 5 years in that church before I had enough and I told my mom that if she made me go back I would leave home. Eventually she saw the wrongs and cult life style of the Mormon church and left herself. The 10 years between the time my stepfather moves into our home and when I walked away from that church was the most horrible time of my life! I understand the fear, confusion, social disorders and every other feeling that comes with being in a cult type church. I applaud Jinger for making the steps to free herself. I am now 55 and am a Christian in a very good bible believing church that I love so very much.

There seemed to be this lovely family aura around them, where the older kids take on younger ones and there’s a sense of community. Now, as an adult, I easily recognize that the parents were dumping the little ones onto the older girls, not to mention the horrid abuse they suffered at the hands of their brother, and to extension, their parents again. I feel for all of the kids, but mostly the older girls. I’m sure they’re really struggling with their identities on top of their religious questioning (both of which I hope they find peace and truth on, no matter what path they follow, whether atheist, Christian, Jewish, Pagan, Muslim, etc!)

He seems to want to blame everything on women and wants to control their every move and thought.
@juliachildress2943

@@annebalderston2520 I really think that some men have a primitive/primal fear of women. Women produce and nurture new life with their bodies, which is mysterious and hints of hidden power. Women elicit feelings and physical effects in men that they have a hard time controlling. This is not even to mention the Freudian factor that men come into the world via their mother's privates and they nurse at their mother's breasts. So the answer? Keep women controlled and under wraps, keep them from recognizing their power by making them weak, turn them into property that serves men. I know this may sound crazy, and I don't think this is conscious, rational thinking on the part of men, but I do think it drives much of the controlling behavior of men who are inclined in that direction without them even knowing it.

Here's a newsflash, Rock music's beginnings came from a mixture of GOSPEL & rhythm & blues. And the King of Rock n Roll actually got several awards for his gospel music

Elvis was hardly the king of anything. He was a thief and the poor people he stole from weren’t in a position to argue with him so people assume they were okay with him. They weren’t.

My heart goes out to her! She was raised in a family of spiritual ‘depravity’ - (i.e. = by the parents defending & harbouring a predator in their own family - who harmed other members of the family)! May she do well in the rest of her life!✝️✝️✝️🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹

I grew up Pentecostal, which is not the same, but shares a few similarities. I feel sooo sorry for all the Dugger girls. I understand Jinger being so constantly afraid of going to hell, my church school and family reinforced many of the beliefs in me that just manipulated me and made me constantly feel as if I was sinning, and I lived in constant fear of going to hell no matter how holy I tried to be

It's wonderful that she wasn't so damaged by the 'simpleton' preacher's dictatorial laws, and that she turned to Christ alone for Wisdom and Blessings. I will pray that her written words will reach her family still stuck in this one man cult as well as others. Thank you again.

So I wasn't raised in a hellishly modest home but one time I wanted to wear a cute pair of shorts when goin to the bar with my mom an sister (I was like 21-22). My mom literally told me I couldn't wear the shorts cause "men will look at your legs". My response was "they'll look anyway". An she still tried to force me to change. I ended up not goin instead. Basically, modesty should be a choice, forcing it makes one feel self conscious. Makes you hate your body even.

It's sad how some people approach modesty. The Duggars and the like take it to an extreme.
@GerryEscue
@GerryEscue 2 ай бұрын
I watched a episode of the Walton's. In the episode Erin one of the daughters, started dressing extremely modestly. In the show it showed that sometimes you draw more attention to yourself by doing that. How it was screaming for attention to yourself for being modest, the same as wearing an extremely short skirt. There has to be a balance in your own mind. I think the same holds true in a lot of different ways in the Dugger family. Like having 19 kids. How do normal people afford 19 kids. How do they give the attention to 19 kids, educate 19 kids. I know that every kid absorbs things differently. Don't you have to think that some of these teachings made Josh what he has become. What helped put him where he is. I feel sure that he couldn't talk to his parents about the "feelings" he was having. What are natural questions a teen would have, that they would have seen as sinful. Then when you add the teachings of their church into a confused and curious teen you can get what they got. Then you magnify the 14-year-old problem by letting the people that confused him in the first place to council him and then he becomes worse. Do not get me wrong, he deserves to be where he is, but I have to think he had a lot of help getting to where he is. @@ThanksHermione
