Tony Butler doesn’t get enough credit for his basslines - immense and this live version has it much clearer in the mix to enjoy it! It’s a melody in its own right, he’s playing chords on a bass and it’s everything a solid bass line should be (whilst singing back vocals). Love his work. 👍🏼

Tickets in those days I wonder if BC sounded more raw they could of signed to Factory Records As they lived in Manchester There was a lot of shitty records played on the radio in the 1980"s Only Big Country were Big, but I don't think there last 2 albums sold very well
@empireman10773 жыл бұрын
@@Robertd-lq7jp That's because they all wanted to be creative and have some control over their music being recorded in the studio They were musicians who wanted to do records to their ideas and be original They would help friends out on other bands Drive themselves to gigs, they were learning how to manage themselves with promoting their music, not image The bands today just are really the opposite I have just read the book by Debbie Harry ( Face it) Tales of being a teenager into the glory days of Blondie ✍️ The biography of Gary Numan: represents his personal interest in flying, but more into his music He wasn't a great guitarist or, singer but still became famous It takes years of hard work, staying on top of your ambitions and dreams Most bands who are still making music & touring today had to change their attitude towards the music business It was just make it, or give up with some musicians Look at Paul Weller phenomenal success in writing & performance

I’m a Yank and I love Steeltown. I bought it with money I saved cutting lawns and shoveling snow; when I was 13. I read once, that it’s themes didn’t appeal to Americans. As a teenager, in 1984, growing up in a blue collar suburb of Detroit, it spoke to me. We didn’t have shows like TOTP or The Tube and we certainly didn’t have a DJ with the influence of John Peel, or even press with the reach of NME. Had it not been for MTV, ‘In a Big Country’ probably wouldn’t have broke in the States. Thankfully, it did.

The thing about Big Country, they got popular right before the hairband took off. People always considered them a New Wave band but for me, they were more of an alternative post punk band. A lot of Minnesota bands like Husker DU, Soul Asylum, and including some of the Grunge and alternative bands like Alice in Chains and Gin Blossom borrow a lot of riffs from them. U2 was another example that borrowed a lot of their riffs. Big Country was really a huge influence on most of the alternative scenes that came later through the 80's and 90's. I don't think people give them a enough credit for that.
