When my college girlfriend decided to travel to Australia with her friend for four months I broke up with her and said we'd just reevaluate things when she got back. I wasn't pissed or anything. Honestly I hoped she would have a great time. But she was a cute blondie and I knew she'd be meeting horny guys the whole time and be tempted to hook up with them. So since we were broken up she could do it guilt free. And I was free to date other girls which I did. We never did get back together but I don't have any bad feelings about her and I'm sure the feeling is the same on her side. This dude should have done the same thing. Then he could get back together with her now if he wanted to without feeling like an idiot. But I guess since he dated her for 3 1/2 years before having sex then he was just too heavily invested. The moral: Don't wait 3 1/2 years to have sex with your girlfriend. Come on.

Long distance relationships almost never work out. If you aren't there physically for each other it's almost impossible to be there emotionally unless there was a sort of gushy inseparable feeling that can make you deal with time apart for. It always leads to someone betraying the trust of the other or both at the same time and subsequently devastating heart break. I had to go through it several times and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. That being said, while I think he made the right move to break up with her I think he's being spiteful as a defense mechanism for the heartbreak. It doesn't sound like she wanted to hurt him, but was just trying to live the prime of her life to the fullest by pursuing passions that meant a lot to her. If her passions are to live abroad and go on hippy trips to Africa, it's a sign that she isn't the one for you because her passions clearly don't align with yours and you should end it to be able to freely live your life the same way she's trying to live hers. That being said, just because she wants to experience life her way doesn't mean she's a bad person. If I was him, I'd say fuck it and give it a shot. If she's not going anywhere anytime soon it doesn't hurt to explore the lost possibility of what you once had. And if it doesn't work out, who gives a shit you got a fun fuck for the time being and got to learn Spanish as a result of it, giving you the chance to bang sexy latina broads.

hey I was looking for this take, that was a good job. Very level headed. The writer should explain to her that she's selfish because she's pursuing her dreams while the guy (the writer) is waiting to fulfill his for 5 years now, which is i guess to be married to her.
