A Hispanic superhero should not be news, it should be happening without fanfare or congratulations of any kind. We are 30 years past when this was groundbreaking and it has never been difficult to pull off. Write a good story and cast appropriate actors to portray it and people will like it. Nothing else matters.

Something I liked from some of Blue Beetle's animated appearances are when he is sort of at odds with the Scarab. When it's difficult for him to control, and he can't even see his family because the Scarab might hurt or even potentially kill them. Makes it a gift and a curse. From the trailers, it was obvious this interesting conflict was ignored. Such a shame. They could've had Jaime himself have a no kill rule, but the Scarab doesn't and maybe forces him to kill. Would've been a more interesting conflict.

You’re quite right. That’s one of the things I wasn’t a fan of from the film. I felt like this iteration of Jaime had it easy with Khaji-Da to the point where he doesn’t go through any internal conflicts or see how the Scarab affects his life & the people he loves. Even the Reyes family doesn’t seem to mind the Scarab by the end of the film. They pretty much just made this version of Khaji-Da the equivalent of KAREN from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Overall, it had a lot of potential but I do like the scene where Jaime finds out the potential outcome if he removes the Scarab.

Literally anyone who finds this beetle suit can be Blue Beetle, it would work for ANYONE. It just happens to be in this kid's hands at the moment. Lantern Rings choose their owners, and it won't work if you don't have, in the case of Green Lanterns, exceptional willpower. Tony Stark is a genius and built his suit himself. Peter got his powers by happenstance, but his journey is of recognizing since he has those powers he has a responsibility to use them. He's THE hero that symbolizes this. Blade is a half vampire whose past causes him to be highly motivated to hunt down and eliminate vampires. Captain America was chosen to get the super soldier serum because of his personality, his exceptional courage. The serum was also destroyed, so it was vital that he get it RIGHT. Batman lost his parents at a young age and dedicated his life to saving other people from such tragedies, but his wealth gives him the ability to do this the most effectively. Not just anyone can be a superhero, but Blue Beetle could slap his suit on literally anyone, cause the suit does all the actual work.

Because IT doesn't feel like it, or because of something that actually refutes my point? "and the 2nd Blue Beetle couldn't never get it to work"....... Double negatives aside, then they WEREN'T the second blue beetle, huh!? That's like saying "Well the first Iron Man built all these suits, but the second Iron Man couldn't even put the suits on." And again, that's just the beetle being stingy. If it decided to work, it would work for ANYONE. "Jaime was the first person in 40 years that the Scarab worked for." This alien bullshit being written to be super picky for no reason doesn't invalidate my point. It's just arbitrary nonsense. ANYONE who puts this suit on could do all these things. It's not even broken and Jaime fixes it, it just RANDOMLY works this time because fuck earning anything. "Though to be fair in the comic the Scarab is constsntly trying to kill people and Jaime has to control it. So he chooses to be a super hero despite the living armor trying to turn him into a super villain." Killing people doesn't make you a super villain. Killing people that are innocent or at least not that bad is what makes you a super villain. Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, literally all the Avengers kill people all the time, and they're still heroes. Bruce has a problem with it because he kills people as the Hulk and he can't control the Hulk, so he could literally run through an orphanage and have no say in it. "Super Heroes never kill" is not a thing. Spider-Man doesn't want to kill people because he's a KID, and even then he can be driven to that extreme under the right circumstances. Batman doesn't kill people because he KNOWS how unstable he is, and if he starts he won't be able to stop. There's actually an entire story about how BAD an idea it is to take away Batman's rules. Jaime's FAMILY is being murdered and one of them actually IS murdered, but killing a group of armed assailants totally cool with murdering women and children? THAT'S A STEP TOO FAR! If you want your hero to be averse to killing people, you need to actually EXPLAIN it. "He's a good little boy" only works UP TO A POINT. If you want to literally open fire on the hero's entire family, your explanation for why killing the shooters is off the table needs to be a BIT more solid. There are ENTIRE STORIES dedicated to why Spider-Man holds back. This movie only needed to spend a couple minutes, and they failed to do that despite it being PRETTY standard for super heroes to kill people in Marvel and DC movies these days. THEY EVEN HAVE BATMAN KILL PEOPLE NOW!

It could've worked, as pretty much all of Phase 1 MCU were C-level Marvel characters (except The Hulk, but his MCU movie bombed anyway.) James Gunn is too blame for it's failure. He doesn't want to build up a cinematic universe. He wants it to already exist, so he can make movies and shows about whoever he wants. That dude needs a herculean effort to rectify the shitshow that is the DCEU... I wish him luck but I'm not going to hold my breath... I feel like both Marvel and DC have seen the "golden era" of box office success end with the finale of end game. I just don't see the market regaining that "lightening in a bottle" magic it had during the 2010's. Marvel's main story arc needs some serious re-working and DC can't get the plane off the runway... Gunn has his hands full IMO.

The suicide squad was really good though. James gunn has always liked to make side characters fan favorites. Guardians of the galaxy is proof of that. It worked in guardians of the galaxy, it worked in the suicide squad. I think the only reason why this movie isn’t that good is BECAUSE James Gunn didn’t have much to do with this movie. Guardians of the galaxy is easily one of the best if not THE best movie in the MCU. The suicide squad is easily the best DCEU film so far imo. The dude has proven time and time again that he is really good at making superhero movies. And there have only been like 3 DCEU movies post-James Gunn. So I don’t really think it’s possible to say that he’s ruining DCEU yet. Maybe if the next few movies are bad then yeah. But it’s too early to tell.

@@Foeisudhxj you can't build up a cinematic universe off of mostly support/side characters. I don't care if he's good with side characters.
