Branch Tower Demolition 1996. Re upload in better quality.

Looks like a party day of tower dismantling. It had been there from 1968 till 1996 when it was removed as the house was sold. A re upload as the original was posted in 2006 when YT was only 240p and looks totally awful. Now you can see it in full 450 line noisy early ccd Svhs quality.
Tony VK3AML known as "The Branch" had a station in Elsternwick Melbourne from the late 1960's till early 80's. His transmissions were very popular in a time that there was not much else to listen to except to main stream Commercial and ABC stations. Many people tweeked their radios a bit to get the one sixty metre transmissions, normally around 1840Khz on an ordinary AM broadcast set as the frequency is just above the broadcast band. The transmissions were very innovative both in programs and technically. Usually duplex conversations on various topics and late night music shows. He pushed the limits as to what a ham station could do when it was all bogged down in restrictive regulations.

Spoke to Tony a number of times during the Missions via the 2 metre link. Taken too soon. Looking at the no harness demolition work and technique, they were lucky to survive that day !

Theu stole the cups from The Dish. Did not realise that the 3AML tower was originally from Max Hull, radio pioneer. This reminds me of Melbourne in 1980, the period before everything got madly renovated, extended and bulldozed. Much better than the original, thanks for uploading. And yes we all miss Tony, what would have he been doing if he were still with us I wonder.

Police cars hanging around sounds like the sort of intimidation I've come to hear about. It's not as if it had any effect on the tower; they did it to be seen and apply pressure.

You can't get drinking cups like that anymore. I've got a pair a couple of years ago from an op shop because I grew up with cups like that, and I associate them with nights of warmed milk when I was a boy.

They're rare now so command a premium price at 'vintage stores'. I have been looking in opshops for the past few years and have never seen any. The two I have were gifts from friends.
