It's ALWAYS worth it to invest in different spices; that $10-$15 (USD) will last at least a couple months. Mixing it up with spices will help keep you from getting bored when you're eating the same foods. And as long as you're buying pure versions of the spices (and not a spice mixture, like Mrs. Dash or Lowry's), they add zero fat and negligible sodium/calories.

Frozen veggies are perfectly fine. And in some cases, can actually taste better than fresh pick. Fresh pick are often picked before they're actually ripe to try and gain it some shelf time so it's not picked at an ideal stage, and in some cases then chemically ripened the rest of the way with a spray over it's transit time. Frozen veggies can be picked at their ripest before flash flash freezing. Would surprise you the amount of restaurants that use them and you'd be blissfully unaware eating their dishes.

Oatmeal...my go-to breakfast food. Mix in some strawberries, blueberries, ground flax seed, hemp protein powder and a couple teaspoons of coconut sugar and you got a nutritious packed meal. My cholesterol is now in a healthy range and I’m meeting my fitness goals and it feels great!

Oatmeal is cheap and then sure add all the expensive stuff and yeah of course you have a nutritious meal. But if you want to stay with the cheap theme just have oatmeal and raisins or milk powder or peanut butter or something like that.

@@VickiChristchurchNZ yeah I can’t do raisins or milk powder in my oatmeal. The texture and taste is offsetting for me. we pay for the food boards controlling the food supply, this is why table creme of 5-10% is $4/l and chocolate milk is .99/l we also pay for a carbon tax now as well as the delivery costs in overpriced fuel costs. But mostly it's Canada's protectionist, mafia style , food boards, it's one of the big things that Trump wanted gone so US and Canada could make a fair trade deal.. you have no idea how many Canadians were cheering on the strong arm tactics of Trump in negotiations, to get rid of the mafia food boards would open the flood gates for cheaper , better foods.

@@josephblow5946 For health yes, doesn't have to be a fanatic. To an everyday average person, they think it's clean food, but are being decieved. For a body builder it's about astetics and size.
@josephblow59463 жыл бұрын
@@ccoodd26 Yes, aesthetics and ESPECIALLY size is all that matters to professional bodybuilders. The amount of calories from complete protein (i.e. animal sources) and starchy carbs (i.e. white rice, pasta, potatoes and oatmeal) that go in and out of their body, is what helps them attain their aesthetics and size, whether a few of those food sources are considered "junk" by health fanatics or not. Bodybuilders call it "functional eating."

Another great video Fouad, nice to see a fellow Canadian doing so well. I agree when things go on sale to stock up, also buy in bulk whenever possible and portion it out. Some of the items seemed pricey, we don't have a Metro store here in NB, but I would think Costco will always be the best buy.

I like how he shares the pros and cons of eating on a budget. I didn't know grades of tuna was a big deal in terms of increasing your food budget. Overall, a lot of perks on cheap foods. Living in the city has the most expensive food. A lot of cheap food that can fill you up like pasta, oatmeal, rice, beans.

feeding myself and my family costs me about 500 to 550 a month CAD and I don't make much over minimum in Canada, this is def budget for body building. when I was liftin a lot to build my monthly grocery bill was around 800-1000 CAD. which for me as a single individual was about 300-400 a month CAD to get bigger/stronger.

Great advice. Word of advice here: cheap tuna is usually more fishy in taste. Try mixing it with some stronger flavors to help neutralize the fishy flavor. A basic tartar sauce is garlic powder, onion powder, dill, relish, mayo, salt, pepper, and lemon juice. The lemon juice is optional but most of those spices and condiments are pretty cheap and you can make your own tartar sauce on a budget rather than buy the premade stuff. In my opinion, you need a little healthy fat in any diet but most people aren't big on fish. Solution: make your own tartar sauce and eat it that way.

Back in college I was doing that same huge prégo jug. Little tip from an old Italian guy, add a little water simmer it on low heat for 15-20 mins. It cuts the acidity and caramelizes the sugars to sweeten it up a touch.

My saving grace for saving on meat was investing in a large stand-alone chest freezer. It allowed me to buy meat in bulk from the butcher for huge discounts vs the grocery store; literally hundreds of pounds of meat in one trip.

Good video ...I grocery shop pretty much like that every week.Trying to keep it under $100. I go to no frills discount stores like Save-a-Lot or Aldi's . However those type of stores you have to be aware of the fat, salt and sugar content in the foods they sell .Items like spaghetti sauce or soup or broth ...they don't sell many things in the low salt or nonfat category..
