Note for the future: Sunny Day halves the power of water moves while it's out. So yeah, Sunny Day into Solarbeam was a totally valid strategy for Wallace since Sunny Day and you now being fire type cancel each other out, and you take normal damage. Enjoyable run, though!

Just as a heads-up, but there was no reason to be afraid of Slaking's Counter since it only works if the opponent uses a physically typed move. Since Rain was active during the fight, Weather Ball changed type to Water, which means it turned into a special based attack. Yay pre-physical/special split generations! Edit: Slaking is still scary though

As some of the others pointed towards thunder has 100% acc in the rain, there was also the thing about solar beam and sunny day. Water (and ice if I remember correctly) are weakend during the sun, so it wouldn't be a problem for the most part. Sure, some of them know earth quake, but solar beam powers threw that pokemon.

@@jacencade4019 To give you insight, almost every _first_ form Pokemon makes an easy challenge in a Pokemon game since pretty much every Pokemon can learn Return, Double Team, and at least 1 other high-power TM (or even Protect, Substitute and Toxic), and the only thing MDB knows what to do is spam Double Team (which isn't a legitimate strategy). Second forms have higher base stat totals, making such runs far easier. The only second stage Pokemon that would be a challenge are stuff like Wobbuffet, Chansey, Kakuna and Metapod.

​@@koolaidman4869 You take solely relying on RNG to the extreme with using double team. (like using focus band Shedinja) At that point, it doesn't matter what your Pokemon's weaknesses are. If they can use will-o-wisp, toxic, or any relatively strong attacking move, alongside double team, then it's a few resets until you can get an easy win. Even if you are too weak to ohko mons, it doesn't matter, as you can just evade every single attack, and take your sweet time to KO them in however many hits, or PP stall their accurate moves. When competitive players depend on PP stall, they take taking damage into account by using substitute and a recovery move, as that is what Pokemon battling is about, taking damage, and dealing with it. Also, ideally, competitive players use math to think about how much damage their Pokemon (can afford to) take and how much is required to 1 hit KO their opponents. They do not abuse most forms of random number generation as they are not consistent methods to win multiple battles. Double team is not a strategy, it's an anti-strategy, as you just nullify the need for other stats except Speed -- yours and your opponents'. Also, it turns every turn into spinning a wheel and hoping your opponent does not kill you. Why do you think Smogon has banned the move?

Heyop! Big fan of your videos, this one was a banger! Everyone has already mentioned Thunder but I thought I should point out how powerful weather ball really is. Wasnt sure if you were aware how powerful weatherball really is for castform, as you've said its a base power 100 attack in weather plus stab. I'm not sure if you realised its powered up by both stab AND weather. Fire and water are 100 (base power) x 1.5(stab) x 1.5(weather) x1.1(mystic water/charcoal) so its power = 247.5 Hail Weatherball is only 165 power with never melt so ice beam is probably more efficient than swapping it for Hail. Also pp is important aha. Thunderbolt and Ice beam are only power 90. I mean really the elite four should have been easier if you just used weather ball. (p.s.- if you know all this ignore everything, love your channel ^.^)

I've always wanted to see if someone could beat pokemon black (my favorite) with only one sanddile (one of my favorite pokemon) I'd love to see you give it a go I think early on it won't be so bad but later game because of the exp system it could be kinda hard

I beat oras with sandile easily, earthquake and crunch with stone edge/rock slide beat it really well. Thrash was also a strong finishing move for the last two Pokémon of each party. Finished the game at level 78.

I've done this before, and it's pretty easy until Wallace, but you can win with some luck and crazy strategy. I beat Steven at like Level 84, and I didn't even need _weather ball!_ Edit: I used Sunny day for a majority of my run, instead, since you could buy Flamethrower before beating the 2nd gym.

@idk maybe memes ;D Yes, and I know. It took me like 15 attempts to beat Wallace and the winning one involved Thunder, Solar Beam, Sunny Day & Rain Dance. For Steven, I won with Sunny Day, Protect, Fire blast and Blizzard. If Castform was at Lv 100, I would be able to wing it with a more mundane strategy.

Dry Bread you should do Spheal in Emerald or Platinum! I used one from the beginning in a randomized version of platinum and had a really hard time around mid-game because of its low stats but early game against Roark was super easy. I think it would make for an interesting challenge. I love these videos and look forward to them every week :)

That and he also forgot that Sunny Day would weaken water moves so the water moves would do the same damage on Fire Castform as they would on Normal Castform. Still a good run though. Castform is such a fun pokemon 😊

Thunder is only needed for Wallace; Thunderbolt and other TMs are fine for the other Elite 4 members. Using Solar beam was actually feasible. I know since I did this challenge, too.

@Shadow the KZbinr, two reasons: 1- I just think it looks neat and I love the idea of a prehistoric artifact coming to life from Moon Magic™️, and 2- a good buddy of mine bred me one years ago for a trick room team, around gen 5 or so, and it worked really well for me; on top of that, it was around that time I discovered this (now defunct) Pokémon website called PokeProfiles, that did neat reviews of lesser used Pokémon and what move sets worked on them. The article for claydol was great and it made me appreciate what it can do more, so I’ve tried to use it as often as I’m able. Just a neat floaty eyeball dude

I love these challenges you do, but for some reason I only enjoy the ones when they're in Gen 3 and onwards. Maybe it's cause they're the earliest games I ever played. Keep up the good work though dude! Looking forward to the next challenge

Edit: Well that was fun, was a lot easier then I thought it would be. Think this might be the first time that the elite four was harder than Steven. Well let’s see here, first gym shouldn’t give you a problem but brawly might. Other than that, the only major difficulties will come from castforms stats but the movepool might carry you. You might be able to beat Steven but you might have to be LV 100 to do it. Anyway here’s some challenges. Here’s one for each main series game you play plus Sword and shield, a fan game and a spin-off: Gen 1 using only Venonet Gen 2 using only Chikorita Emerald using only magcargo Fire red or leaf green using only normal type moves (use foresight and odor sleuth for ghosts) Platinum using only geodude Heart gold or soul silver using only sunkern Black and white using only patrat Black and White 2 Challenge mode using only tynamo (a challenge I’m convinced is literally impossible) Sword and Shield using only a Wooloo Fire Red Rocket edition using only the starting rattata Pokemon ranger shadows of almia but you have to catch a Pokemon in 1 loop (Basically treat it like the first ranger game).

Emerald, there are already very few runs that use glass cannon Pokemon, and Emerald provides some interesting challenges - mainly mandatory dual battle and post-game Steven fight.

I don't comment much on KZbin but I figure I would here. Been a big fan of these Pokemon Challenges you've been doing! They're a lot of fun to watch and listen to and I look forward to them every Saturday. I have a suggestion for one you might enjoy though - Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire with a single Magnemite. Specifically those games due to Steven being the Champion with harder to hit Steel types and a Claydol, and having very little coverage as opposed to the easier Wallace in Emerald with the type advantage. Ruby could be even more challenging due to Team Magma being the antagonists with Ground types than Aqua with Water types in Sapphire. Figure it could be an interesting one :)
