6:10 The foot placement is probably an inverse kinematics artifact. The birds are supposed to attach the foot to the ground below where there legs attach to their bodies. For the left foot of the third bird, that is so far to the side that the point to attach to is part of the wall of the "nest", so the IK system calculates a configuration of the skeleton that makes the foot attach perpendicularly to that wall. IK systems are commonly used to make animations match things like sloped terrain or stairs. The baby birds probably need one because they can run up and down the ramp to the nest. Edit: On second thought, they probably need an IK system just to creepily stare at you the entire time.
