That 2x on the flop was definitely for protection, low flushes kind of play like sets on monotone boards, or at least I see this a lot in 2-5 stakes live play. They are betting to specifically target single card higher card flush draws and 2 pairs (AK especially).

V is never folding flop with QsQx, JsJx, QsTx, QsJx, JsTx, any set, any 2pair, any worse flush on the flop. Easiest raise on the flop ever, followed by a slightly stomach-churning but necessary jam on the turn where we lay him 3:1 and all worse hands call. Must be nice to be able to just give up on an extra $2000. I couldn't afford to play this game and do that.

With the 6x open and not closing the action my first instinct would be to fold, though that was never discussed so maybe T9s is just too high up? With maniacs i prefer to just wait till im pretty much nutted. like yeah it’s a +EV spot, but when you hit a 10high flush you have to start thinking about losing to flush over flush or whatever. my point is people only have so much money, usually with guys like this you can just wait until you have a very easy decision and take all their money. although i guess if theyre burning money this wuickly maybe u want to get in there asap

@@dan22482 That is a good point @John Smith there I agree the worse my opponent is the more I want to try to play with them with hands that can become premium. Villain’s flop play reminds me of the guys who will overbet a low flop with hands like JJ because they’re so afraid of getting drawn out on. He’s telling you he’s ready to get it in with this sizing IMO. Gotta check raise flop smallish and jam turn… On the turn I don’t understand the caller’s logic being afraid of AA/KK. We’re still never folding on a brick river so who cares if you happen to jam into that on the turn at some frequency when he’s also calling with many worse hands? Once you end up here on the turn by far the best play vs villain’s overall range is a check jam.

I literally played with this type of player the other day at a one three game in Kansas City. There would be $50 in the pot and he would bet 125. Once I raised to 25 there was a caller and he raised the 225. There was $100 in the pot and he went all in for 1200.. he was to my left so I was never really in position to take advantage of his over bets. Plus I didn't have a lot of good hands. Funny thing is about 90% of the time he had the best hand When it went to showdown.

Get lots of money in while you are pretty sure you're ahead, and you have a paying customer appearing willing. On a hand like this, forget about slow playing, forget about balancing your range. The only thing I'd balance is donk leading the flop sometimes, and varying the amount of the lead between a blocker hoping he'll raise, and pot-ish. AK, A6s wrong suit, sets, and QQ/JJ with a space need to pay to draw. And if you're check calling for deception (or worse yet, fear, when you're going to call off on most boards) do the deception with the size of a check raise instead. Randomize or choose, between around a minraise, a shove, and whatever size in between where villain with think that if he shoves, you might fold. Having said that, VILLAIN actually bet enough that hero's hand was pretty well protected mathematically, just not in a way that put villain to the test, nor in a way that let hero have any fold equity. The biggest downside of check calling is complete lack of fold equity, complete lack of taking advantage of the gap, needing a bigger hand to call than to bet.

@@JohnSmith-nx7zj that much is probably true (though I imagine from OOP you are still supposed to bet small on the turn after the check raise). Which is honestly just another reason villain should have played that in basically any other fashion. The question is given the villain's play could hero have found a more profitable line on average and I think the answer is yes. I just don't blame him for not making those adjustments because villain's play was so out there and while it is easy to see if someone is playing atypically it is much harder to figure out what they are doing wrong/why.

My first thought when the villain bet was they he was holding flush and maybe a set followed by two pair. The size of the bet was such that he wanted the action to close now. He's happy with the amount to win in the pot after the flop. He doesn't want to see another card at all. The size of the bet shows how scared he is. On the turn, it's clear to me he doesn't have a full house. He would check and make a river bet if he had a full house. Continuing to bet means low flush. If you bet or raise his bet, the jig is up and he folds.
