This skit was based on true events in the 90s. This super rich white business man was running drugs on a serious level and he had a black frontman in the USA. The black guy got life and the white guy got like a suspended sentence. And they didn’t come to arrest him, he was invited to turn up at the police station. But he was the actual drug runner. Crazy.

In case those across the pond aren't familiar with the US Constitution: the fifth amendment gives the accused the right to not to respond to any questions if their answers could possibly be self incriminating. In a lot of criminal trials, the lawyer advises the defendant (the accused) not to speak at all.
@MrVvulf3 жыл бұрын
Most lawyers advise never speaking to the police at all, not under any circumstances. If the police want to speak with you...you need an attorney.
@kirikayumura60153 жыл бұрын
and I believe it also applies to when you're just a witness and not only to the defendant themselves. What I mean is, if you are called to testify in someone else's trial, you can refuse to answer some questions if the answer to the question could potentially provide evidence against you of wrong doing on some other matter.

I actually still think the racial component is the main message. If blacks were the CEOs of banks and embezzled money, and whites were narcotics traffickers, would our current society really let the bank CEOs go without punishment? Probably not. So yes, we treat white collar criminals with incredible leniency, but it's also likely because they "appear" less threatening to white America. You can't disentangle the two.
