Jimmy, an Aussie legend, has been singing like a gravel truck for years. Check out him with Cold Chisel doing "Wild Thing" live, in his early days......at the same time he can sound smooth and "almost" silky. PS: Jimmy is a dad of many ...some like Mahalia Barnes has followed in his singing footsteps

Check out Jimmy's daughter Mahalia Barnes with Joe B in Riding with the King. Apple did not fall far from the tree. She is named after Mahalia Jackson and she lives up to it. Also Nasty Gal song too with Joe B.

Hey there Charlie, many of you reactors have said how rare and fantastic it is to find singers who can sing live without any bells and whistles, because they can actually sing. Well, the guitarist (Johnny Diesel) doing the solo in "When Something Is Wrong With my Baby" with Jimmy and John Farnham, gave one of the best raw performances possible, and it's exceptional, so thought you'd really like to hear it and react to it. Pure raw Aussie talent at it's finest in my opinion - Just Diesel, an acoustic guitar in a room, sitting on a couch and killing it. Keep on smiling and love your great work ❤ Diesel - 15Ft of Snow (German VH1 1995)

@@roslynjonsson2383 by the looks of it - I misread your post. You mentioned “Something is Wrong With my Baby” and said it was exceptional and that you’d thought he’d like to hear it. That 'average dad' { SUPERSTAR! } has kept the strength and flexibility in his vocal apparatus by never stopping singing! It's not about age - it's about exercise! 😃 Jimmy has worked with numerous excellent musicians for decades [ Shout Out to the other great musicians in this clip ] and produced a huge Aussie Songbook of much loved classics, with his signature blend of tender croon and powerhouse grit and growl. On the topic of 'Dad Production' however, Jimmy has likewise been relatively 'prolific'. He has ALSO produced: (with just 'a smidgeon' of help from their mothers 😆} * a Son: [ David Campbell ] also a great singer, stage performer and currently national Breakfast Show presenter. David and Jimmy have performed together regularly and recorded Duets together. * a Daughter: [ Mahalia Barnes] singer, has her own solo albums and has also performed many times with Jimmy. * a Daughter: [ EJ (Elizabeth Jane) Barnes ] - ditto - EJ is also a well respected singer and actress * a Son: [ Jackie Barnes ] who is a drummer, keyboardist, singer and songwriter. has performed may times with Jimmy and is currently part of the Aussie rock band: Rose Tattoo. * a Daughter: [ Eli-May] who is also a singer, has performed with Jimmy and recorded duets with him ( ref. their work in his 'Double Happiness' album ) And belatedly - 2 more daughters: [Amanda & Megan ] have also forward to make themselves known to Jimmy - who's ever enlarging family has welcomed them wholeheartedly. And just in case that wasn't enough he also has - at latest count:- * 15 Grandchildren as well. Remains to be seen how many of these will come forward to shine in the arts as well. Undoubtedly with this heritage - we can anticipate quite a few!

As amazing as this is the version with Tina Arena is even better. And on your note of "all that vocal prowess" this is after he's done 50 years of damage to his vocal chords. Barnsey is one of the best vocalists Australia has made. When the War is Over really shows his insane range. Bow River & Wild Thing show the insane skill and fun Cold Chisel has on stage. Khe Sahn & Janelle show how much they emotion they have. Working Class Man is Australia's unofficial national anthem.

Hey Charlie, once again, an amazing reaction. I have to go through your previous videos so I don't know if you have reacted to any of Jimmy's earlier work. He has changed genre quite markedly from his Cold Chisel days of hard rock to the more mellow tunes he does these days. I watched a doco on Jimmy years ago and they spoke of his voice from a medical sense and how he could maintain those raspy screams for so long without damaging his voice and from memory he makes far more use of his secondary vocal chords than others are even able to do. He certainly has a unique voice and I guess that goes towards his longevity. On another note, if you want a really powerful song lyrically, check out I Was Ony 19 by Redgum, it's about the song writer's brother in-law that served in Vietnam and the affects of PTSD. It was this song released in 1983 that got people interested in getting the Vietnam Vets recognised by the Australian Government just a few years later. There's been a lot written about this song so there's quite a bit of history about the lyrics and the meaning as well as interviews with people that served with his brother in-law. Avery emotional song for me and many Australians, not to mention others around the world that have served, kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5jQmKqubJyiqdk

Jimmy is on of the very few singers in the world that does not use his vocal cords to sing. He actually has nodules on the side on his vocal cords that he uses. The drummer in the video is one of his sons, and the backing singers are his daughters. His daughter Mahalia is the backing singer for Joe Banamassa too. Jimmy has been defying the so called experts since he joined Cold Chisel in 1973 at age 16

G'day. You may get some enjoyment from listening to Jimmy Barnes a bit more. Although he came to fame in Australia as a (somewhat wild) lead singer with Aussie rock band Cold Chisel (1973 - 1983), his solo career (1984 to present day) included an intended one-off foray into soul covers which instead became a significant part of his ongoing repertoire. Of the many songs to look at, I am suggesting a rather full-on version of "Change Is Gonna Come" (live 1984) from his early solo days. You may think that his singing on this one is a bit over-the-top or you may like it. I think it is great.

Great and sublime reaction .... THANK YOU. Believe it or not, Barnsey also has a sweet and pure NATURAL singing voice that he rarely uses. Although suited for pop, jazz and rock, his natural voice is probably not suited for blues or hard / heavy rock. To see a young and feral Barnsey at his best live, I suggest you listen and watch the live version of Cold Chisel’s “ Wild Thing”. Forget the original and the Hendrix version. Cold Chisels live version is ROCK at its roots.

@@TheCharlieSmithChannel I might have missed it in your list of reactions, but I’d Rather Go Blind with Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart is amazing. Also, Faouzia Singing Tears of Gold is stunning‼️(make sure it’s the “stripped” version) She was born in Morocco and the family moved to Canada when she was young. Thank you!

If you like Jimmy and Joe together then you should listen to Joe Bonamasa and Mahalia Barnes Riding With The King. Mahalia is Jimmy's daughter

Jimmy.... Nope, he is no spring chicken, but he has just go better with age. I honesty believe he sounds his best in the last 5 years.
