I would say that’s because a lot of the trends they’re following are meant for print or photography makeup. There’s a huge difference between every day, glam makeup, and camera makeup. And sadly no one points out the differences cause they’re all making money selling products. Sometimes the beauty industry is also rather ugly.

We're _supposed_ to match out foundation with our neck, not our hands or face. However, lighting inside 99% of stores is florescent, not incandescent or natural. Life Hack: Got to store, try on 2-4 testers. Put those babys right onto your neck. Take a quick walk outside, into the natural light & take a pic. This should help you chose a foundation that _actually_ suits your skin tone. Taking a friend is even better! Help each other out. Once you've found 'your perfect colour' you're all set to purchase. Actually, no, you aren’t... Your neck is ALWAYS going to be much lighter than the rest of your body and face because it’s shielded from the sun by your head. Your supposed to match your foundation to the parts of your body that are visible. Your chest, your shoulders, etc. Learning your skin tone and your undertones is extremely important, as well. If you aren’t considering your undertones, you’re never going to look right.

True, your presence, the way you wear yourself, is the big deal when attracting someone. I used to spend 30 minutes in the mirror before walking out anywhere, but now as I get older, I feel more confident and happy with how I look. I've always had a pretty face, probably my best asset, but now getting ready for a special dinner, would include a little blush and spot of powder to the oily prone areas and some Vaseline to enhance the eyebrow and lashes. And that's the most I do. Young girls fell victim to the greedy makeup industry who tells you that 7 layers of makeup looks good. Toner, primer, foundation, concealer, baking, contouring, blush, brightness enhancer, and setting powder. Smh... This is insane, pricey, time consuming and unnecessary. Your natural pores don't just go away with layering, it actually enhances them and ages you.

One thing I never related to, nor understood was all the hysterically excited reviewers cooing over how J Starr's 'Skin Frost' highlighters looked once they applied it wet over their youthful cheekbones. They go 'oh my god, you guys do you SEE THIS?! I'm shook, I can't believe it, look how gorgeous this is!' when all the product was doing was highlighting every textural imperfection on their face, y'know, all the little milia, pores, hair and tiny bumps. Before they smeared this product on they looked smooth and lovely. Can kids not see what the product is really doing, how it looks? Their skin texture turns into a topographical map of Arizona when they joyfully turn back and forth in the light. How can this be an aesthetic triumph for them?! Again, it's due to kids getting their make up tips from drag queens and people in social media videos, rather than real life.

I used to worked in cosmetics for years. When it comes to foundation, never buy until you’ve seen it in multiple lighting. Take a mirror outside if they let you, take a selfie or my favorite get a sample of the one you think works but also a shade lighter and darker to try it out before buying. When I wear foundation I need to mix two colors, don’t be afraid to do that. Yes, it cost more to begin with, but it last double the time, so in the long run you aren’t paying extra. Plus, it makes it easier to transition between winter and summer! Don’t let sales people bully you into buying something you’re not sure about. If they try, they suck and you don’t want to give them your business because they are more interested in the money than making sure you are happy. Okay, I’ll stop now lol

To be serious for a second: you see the videos that Charlotte does with and without makeup and she look like the same person, slightly enhanced. Also, when you see her without makeup, it's not jarring so you think that most of her beauty is natural and not her makeup art. I think some people like a makeup style that looks like an enhanced version of themselves without makeup and others choose a style that looks like they are obviously doing makeup, but looks very artistic. When you go for the artistic, and you l miss, it stands out more, because you are not trying to minimize the impact to begin with.
@lostineggsaisle3 жыл бұрын
You're so right. You really have to be spot on when doing the very colorful artistic looks and then you need filters on top of that in photos for them to be "Instagram worthy". No, your neck is always going to be lighter than the rest of you because it’s shaded constantly. You match your foundation to the parts of your body that are visible, your chest, your shoulders, etc. It’s also extremely important to know your undertones and that many times mixing 2 shades of foundation is going to be the only way to find an exact match.
@Makeupzised3 жыл бұрын
The girl with the freckles is so gorgeous naturally 😭
@definitelynotalizard4 жыл бұрын
A lot of the problems with foundation matching are incorrect undertones due to a lack of options in drugstore makeup. Many of the fails have someone with a cool, pink undertone wearing more popular warm, yellow toned foundation. Warm and neutral (green) undertones are way more available in mid and dark toned foundation than cool undertones, so these people are forced to use the wrong undertone or pay for something more expensive like Fenty Beauty.
@jennlecher56044 жыл бұрын
If only every Fenty foundation wasn’t a strong yellow undertone. But you’re absolutely right about people not knowing their undertones. They also don’t know they can mix foundations to make their perfect shade. I don’t understand why but they don’t. Even KZbinrs will say “I have shade 5 which is too light and 7 which is too dark. I need to get 6.” So, I will comment and tell them that all they have to do is mix 5 with 7 and make the shade they need. They act like I invented plutonium and I’m the most intelligent person in the Universe for suggesting such a thing! Then, I tell them they can even mix shades from different brands to make a foundation that’s too matte a little more hydrating, or a foundation that’s too dewy a little less so and it completely blows their minds...? People just don’t realize that they can use their products any way they want. I saw a comment on a video with someone saying that they wished a specific shade in an eyeshadow palette could be made into a highlighter because it would be the perfect shade for her skin tone. I responded saying that she should just use the eyeshadow as her highlighter but just use a less dense brush so it wouldn’t be too pigmented. She responded “but it’s an eyeshadow not a highlighter.” I wanted to pack my shit and move away from civilization to go live in the mountains by myself. 😳

Ya everyone has makeup fails. I’ve been doing different makeup looks since punk rock first hit the scene in its inception and have had some pretty crazy looks. Can’t say I ever cared if anyone decided if they were fails or not and still like my makeup to this day. It’s probably still considered a fail and I could care less. I think people will criticize others no matter what so why concern yourself with others opinions really.

Right there with you. I used to soak my hair in an Elmer’s glue mixture and hang my head off the bed as it dried to get the hair to stand up as unpredictably as possible. My makeup was only slightly more carefully applied 😆 I still love it even though nobody in my life now would even recognize me from back then. It was certainly a fail to somebody, but it’s just great memories to me!

I never wear makeup for many reasons such as: being too broke to afford it and i'm at a point of my life where i've finally accepted my face so i don't care, people like it or don't. Not my problem, i can't change my face. But yeah mainly, every time i think about trying make up the price tells me to fuck off. I paint my nails a lot tho.

Because as soon as a woman who usually wears makeup, comes to work or wherever without it, all she gets is „Oh no, are you sick/stressed?“ or „Long night?“ etc. People aren’t really used to 100% natural female faces anymore, so any random woman can’t really compete with the social standards. And I‘m not saying this comes from men, it’s just as much from women who either want to compete with others as is in our nature as humans, or just like themselves better with makeup. Nobody is forced to wear makeup but it usually has a lot of advantages to wear it.

My mom never wore make up. As a teen I had a couple years when I used it but even then very minimally because as you said it's expensive and I had other hobbies that were priority. I sometimes put some foundation to correct my dark circles but it's literally a sample I got at the make up counter. Despite not wearing sunblock and not havin a skin care routine, my face is holding up pretty well and I'm pretty sure it's because I never consistently put on foundation.

So when i was 18 i really wanted a complete makeup collection such as eyeshadows, blush, lip colors, foundation, concealer, eyebrow makeup, the whole thing. As a i started learning and doing my makeup i always felt incomplete like my look was always missing something. Flash forward a few more years and i started watching tutorials and i ended up looking 5+ years older than i was. It took me about 2 years ago to do my makeup less dramatic and admit i had nice features on my face that didnt need to be over do it. I ditch the foundation and stuck to lip colors that lool really good on me. Also i let my brows grow and i feel great now. Not to mention my makeup collection is more portable now.

I personally think James Charles should be doing up behind his ears & on his neck with his poorly matched (or maybe what colour he aspires to be) as make-up, and showing make-up looks on himself online is his actual job - so whilst I don't think he needs to be perfect all the time I think he definitely needs to be pretty bloody close when he's filming/taking pics etc when he's making millions of it. I was an athlete growing up, and I chose sleep over getting up extra early to paint myself or drag a bunch of cosmetics around to the pool to get ready after morning workouts. It just became natural to be to not buy into it. As I joined the workforce, I tried but hated the feeling. I'd maybe at best to blush and gloss. To this day I still do nothing. And I still get compliments on my skin being bright and unwrinkled at 45. Be bold. Don't waste your funds on things that promote being unauthentic to you!

I honestly don't quite understand a person's thought process when they decide to do make-up like the ones in this video. Most people I know wear makeup to either: A) cover-up flaws and imperfections while still looking basically the same, B) to accentuate their face and natural looks (the natural look), C) to add sex appeal and high definition to certain areas of the face. I don't know many people that would willingly look like a clown. As a gay man, I can understand and appreciate Drag Queen makeup. But I also know it's for performance and NOT meant to be an everyday out in the public look. I also go by the saying "less is more." I appreciate any makeup artist that can apply makeup to wear it looks like the model has nothing on at all.

I used to only wear mascara and maybe some lip color. But I'm on the high end of 40 now and my skin drives me crazy! Rosacea, sun spots (or are they age spots?), dull skin, fine lines and wrinkles! Getting old sucks. And I've started using foundation to hide some of these things, but honestly, it settles into my lines and wrinkles. But at least you can't see my dull, uneven skin tone, I guess? I had heard that drinking water was worse to help plump your skin and improve its texture but I drink 5-6 liters of water a day, have done so for over a year and have seen no difference. But at least I have up soda, so there's that @Charlotte, you have absolutely gorgeous skin! 🤩 No blemishes, beautiful color, looks soft and luminous. Take good care of it girl!

I used to work at Very popular makeup counter, some women insist on wearing the wrong color foundation because they think it changes skin colors and conditions. Most amazing to me were African and Asian Indian women who insisted on one of the 11 million shades of white. Make up looks best when its used to enhance the skin you were born with unless you are purposely using it for a costume. Which some people are comfortable wearing each day. Why is that? There’s nothing more beautiful to behold than our different skin colors. We should be celebrating our differences not using them to determine who is what, that’s insane! This video reminds me what we look like after too many KZbin makeup videos looks like.
