The light butter has less calories per weight as it has more water in it, highly processed. It works quite well when unmelted on something. But melting it and heating like this I would think you’d just end up with more water soaking into your dough. In short - I’m gonna live a little and have real butter - tastes amazing. This recipe looks great

Also light butter is light butter cause it's either whipped, mostly air, or it's mostly water that's been emulsified with water, so if y'all have normal butter, just whip in a mix of about 1/3rd the qty of normal butter, with some water, and you'll tet the exact same effect without having to buy anything else you won't use, or just use a type of butter substitute that uses primarily healthy fats and not worry about the handful more calories per roll, as you're still gonna be light-years ahead of eating a normal cinnamon roll. Also, if you really want a fluffier cinnamon roll, do a yeasted roll recipe instead of baking powder, both are decent if done right though

@@RahulKamat I've done it myself in a pinch with a few recipes before, and it worked! Not quite as good as using the full amount of butter, or even a full fat butter substitute, but the same as when I compared a batch to the light butter variant, also the 1)3rd isn't set in stone! It's based on if you compare the full fat version to the low fat version of the same type, generally if the lower fat is 1/3rd the calories/fat of the full versions then it's 1/3, but if half then it's usually half extra water, so if using different types of fats, then the ratios can be a little off.

Exactly, the "butter" shown in the video is garbage and shouldn't even be referred to as such. Look at those ingredients, butter should only be cream/water, not hydrogenated soy/palm oils and emulsifiers.

Invest in a countertop mixer, worth it and so much easier, quicker and less messier than mixing by hand. You can multi task this way and work on your icing while your dough mixes by itself.

Just made these - they are really, really good! Only issue is that it makes sooooo much icing and a lot of the protein is in the icing so I was forced to slurp it all down on the side which wasn't that bad! But while eating them they are actually reasonably close to the real thing!

I love your recipes, but I will say, let the butter soften instead of using it melted because a lot of that goodness just dripped off the cinnamon rolls. If you let it softened at room temp then it has a better chance of baking into the dough. Although the leftover cinnamon and butter drippings would make good dippies 🤤

That dough would do well in a bread machine to get mixed. Do you think you could make a bread machine recipe? There's almost no protein-focused bread machine recipes out there, and the only thing I can think of is adding thinned greek yogurt instead of milk. I think a pumpkin or banana bread with protein powder could work for a sweet bread?

I'll leave the same comment I left for Felu's cinnamon roll recipe (the calories are slightly different, but the same point stands): "Unfortunately, I don't think the calories make sense. One regular Pillsbury cinnamon roll with icing is only 150 calories vs 196 for one of these without icing These look about the same size, if not a bit smaller, than the Pillsbury rolls. A regular Pillsbury cinnamon roll has 2g of protein, so if wanted to make up the protein difference of 10g could just have half a scoop of protein powder on the side, for a total of 203 calories. So only save 7 calories with this recipe."

Some people have real trouble getting protein in, and need more palatable options to do so. Otherwise, just eat a damn canned cinnamon roll if you want a cinnamon roll.

Made it with gf flour which is always a toss up, and baking powder as recommended. I also used real butter. These taste awful lol. Way to sour tasting from the yogurt. And they didn’t bake through. Probably more on me than the recipe but seriously, wish these turned out at least eatable. Now I just have a tray with stuff I need to throw away. 😞
