This is one of the best characteristics of most Scots when they are having a good day - they can take a poke and some humour at their expense because they have a sense of humour and they know damn well that they'll not give any detractors the satisfaction - just laugh. It's better for your health any road. The folks that can't take a ribbing in the world are the ones that end up getting in nasty conflicts - everyone's pride and no sense of humour.
@mynameisGail15 күн бұрын
@moragosullivan Aye , that's one of the many unique things that puts the great in Britain . We British are the only one's in the world who have the decency and humility to joke about ourselves and laugh at ourselves. Whereas other countries are humourless in that regard . They can't laugh at themselves and in arrogance, they falsely accuse the British of being ' racist" simply because British humour often involves pointing out something that can be perceived as comical about other countries and cultures . I'm a Scottish woman too and I'm proud to be British and blessed with our special and unique sense of humour 😊

To be fair, a lot of shops don't accept English £50 notes either and they're legal tender too. Living in Cornwall I've seen one Scottish note in 24 years and I used to work behind a till. People aren't familiar with them so they're more easily duped by fakes thus they're better off not accepting them, it's that simple.

We went to Scotland - my auntie, when drawing money out of her account in Edinburgh - only had two banks on every street corner - Bank Of Scotland and Royal Bank Of Scotland - when we returned to England, my auntie had loads of Scots notes and was able to use them everywhere - she was on a bus and handed over a Scottish fiver for the fare - “You’ve been to Scotland, I see”, said the driver - they accepted it, anyway! Over many years, we have been given Irish one pence coins, 10p coins from the “Bailiwick of Jersey” - even been given Deutschmarks and so on in change (didn’t always bother to check) - but the shops, whilst they were happy to give you foreign currency - they even think Scotland and Jersey are foreign countries - Scotland, maybe - it’s not England, despite what Americans might tell you to the contrary - but they won’t always accept them as payment - just as well Wales doesn’t have its own currency - imagine if it did - their banknotes would be written in Welsh, have pictures of Welsh bards or Dylan Thomas on them!

Kirsten Easdale hey, I’m open to making fun of other cultures. That’s a part of comedy is poking fun at certain harsh subjects like race. I just don’t like how Macca has handled it, he seems very brash about how he insults the Scottish, like “Yes, us English are the superior race.” When the original commentator on this channel compared him to Dave Allen, if you ever go back and watch Allen’s comedy, he actually respects cultures while poking fun at them. Not just other cultures, but his own. Macintyre is just an asshole in this video, as he is with most of his comedy in my opinion, craving attention so he will do anything that’s not too offensive, unless it involves Scottish People.

"I'll have you no, that's legal tender" I've heard it so many times when on holiday in England (in other words abroad). You could just be buying snacks with Scottish money and that'll happen every time when the English checkout has an issue
@_s_99204 жыл бұрын
@Jim Barrows nah its because most people have never seen a Scottish note being that its from a different country and when you handle a Scottish note it feels like someone glued two monopoly notes together and drew a badly printed Scotsman on it. They are faked all the time and the legitimate notes have zero anti-counterfeit measures. Shopowners get fucked over if they try to cash in fake notes. Take your anti-English bullshit elsewhere.

@@busbingereviews8587 . Had a chap in front of me in a supermarket. He had the same problem. So I swapped the notes with him. I used the bank of Scotland notes in the same supermarket at the self service checkout. No problem 👍. Rest paid into the bank using the self service machine, no problem. It is legal tender and the notes are underwritten by the Bank of England . N.I has its bank as well. Same applies. I'm English and I can smell the English channel so that chap came down for a holiday. Hope he went back with not a too bad opinion of us. I would not like that done to me . People need to be aware that there is nothing wrong with the legal notes.

DarthTaiter79 Scotland’s a nice place depending on where you go. Personally I’d stay away from Glasgow as it is riddled with crime. Normally the further up north you go the more welcoming they are as we Scots love foreigners though the exception are the English. Generally the further up north you go the more Anti-English they are. It’s an odd place but it’s home.

Scot-free -- This idiom comes from the old English word sceot, meaning a 'tax', and entered directly from the Old Norse word "skot." (Remember those pesky Norse and Danes used to run around England.) People were scot-free if they didn't have to pay the tax. Nicely done!

No. The USA. There is a large percentage of the population who are almost rabidly patriotic. Pledging allegiance to the flag in school every day, hanging flags outside their homes, claiming to be the "Land of the free", using their national anthem more regularly than any other nation, having a separate anthem for the President and electing Presidents who don't have the capacity to do the job (Trump, Bush, Reagan and having Gerald Ford who was both President and Vice President without being elected) but supporting them as if they do.

You're all fools. None of that compares to china or North Korea. They're nigh on brainwashed into being patriotic
@John-gv2ug4 жыл бұрын
@@aceman0000099 It is not nigh on brainwashing it is brainwashing and therefore NOT true patriotism but a manufactured perversion of the natural patriotic feelings they would develop for their nation. It is born of fear, being denied access to information and developed in a strict education system. The Chinese people in Hong Kong and those who study outside China have a patriotic pride in their history and culture not a forced patriotic attachment to a political system and cult worship of leaders. The fanatical version is NATIONALISM not PATRIOTISM, there is a distinct difference. Nationalism is a feeling of superiority over others, patriotism is not. Nationalism is divisive, patriotism is not. Nationalism seeks to force opinions, patriotism does not.
@aceman00000994 жыл бұрын
@@John-gv2ug well if patriotism isn't feeling superior to others, that rules out America as being patriotic
