The "i could be doing something way worse" argument is typical from addicted people, like some sort of way to reassure themselves but also kind of a cry for help, i know cause I've used this argument
@lilithlaney17593 жыл бұрын
I've been the benzo/painkiller addict who used the "at least I don't shoot up" excuse. I became a nurse because I watched both my father and grandfather die from tobacco use. It's a horrible way to go. I am biased in my opinions, but I just don't understand the appeal of tobacco. It doesn't get you high, it's super addictive, will cost you _so much money,_ and everyone knows it will at least cause some sort of chronic illness. I don't get why people still do this. The only potential benefit I can see is the social bonding people get from other addicts, which still is pretty baffling if you think about it.
@MadamFoogie3 жыл бұрын
@unknown Woof, that speech to text was rough on you. But yeah, agreed. My dad started when he was sent to a psych ward in the 60s for going to school high on LSD, and my grandfather started in the Air Force during WW2. Trauma tends to bring people together in their vices, and I get that it's a coping mechanism. But that was the social norm decades ago, so why are kids still doing it now? I'm probably rambling, but that's because this sort of thing still baffles me.

As a current smoker/vaper who 5 years ago had never touched anything harder than caffeine, I can say I turn to it when I'm stressed. Fun story, when my dad was a kid in the 70s he once tried dip (already been smoking since he was 10 or 11 sadly) and was walking home with it in his mouth and his mom pulled up and offered to drive him home, so he got in but didn't have time to spit it out without her seeing. He held the dip in his mouth and couldn't spit because he'd know she'd know why he was spitting. Swallowing dip makes you super sick, so because he wasn't spitting it out he started accidentally swallowing it and getting all sick. He told his mom he wanted to walk the rest of the way home so she let him out, and as soon as her car was out of sight he threw up. He said his whole body got chills and he thought he was gonna pass out it was so bad. But he never tried dip again, even if he does still smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day.

When I was a toddler my dad was trying to quit smoking cigarettes, so he tried weaning himself off by dipping (genius idea, not). On the way to my great grandmother’s funeral, I got into the can of dip my dad was hiding from my mom and proceeded to smear it all over my dress. The car reeked, my mom was not pleased. 🙃 However, my dad hasn’t smoked or dipped in like fifteen years!

These teenage guys doing dip should just smoke weed like regular people as teens. At the very least it's no where near as addictive and harmful as tobacco

Chewing tobacco isn't harmful, other that gum recession from long term use. People who don't chew are just as likely to get mouth cancer as people who do chew.

America is such a crazy large country. I’m from SoCal and I smell weed all the time and encountered more stoners but have only met one person in my entire life who openly dips.

I kept waiting for someone to go the crackhead level of hiding things and empty out a lightbulb, put some chewing tobacco in a baggie and shove it in the bulb. Screw back into lamp and unplug the plug so you dont forget and accidentally turn it on. THEN I'd be impressed. Until then, THE SOCK DRAWER???

07:23 so funny story. Apparently, it's not uncommon to see confederate flags in Michigan. I live in Alabama myself, but went to Michigan a few months ago and actually saw one on some dude's truck. Really weird to see people up north flying them. Also I don't know if it's just a southern thing or if it's just because I hung around people that did dip, but "backer" is just another word for "tobacco". Basically, just another short word to say instead of "dip".

I've noticed something too, I don't know what it is about dip, but dip just ensues anger. Like everybody I've met who does dip is always boisterous, loud, mean and angry at everything. In other words, everyone I've ever known who does dip acts and talks exactly like the first kid the boys reacted to.

Southern here as well and I don’t know anyone who dips. No one I knew even did that when I was in high school. It’s absolutely disgusting. The only time I really encountered it was an office job I had where two guys did it and they’d constantly be spitting in cups on their desks. So gross 🤢

I love how I live in Arizona - in the CITY - and kids here think they're confederate country boys, because this is technically south and AZ counted in the confederate statres for like two weeks lmfao, yet their parents moved here fom New York and their ancestors never lived a day in the south XD my cousin's the same, he lives in PA and that entire side of the family has lived in the north for generations, but he thinks that our ancestors were confederate somehow and it's "his history". Like our ancestors fought for the Union, he's so brain dead I swear.
