When I was a kid in the 1950’s there was a restaurant called Lum’s who steamed their hot dogs in beer. After hours they were plump and were incredibly tasty. Lum’s was a Florida chain of open air restaurants. The ones I went to were near my home on Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road Mall. Their sauerkraut had caraway seeds and was a great addition.

This is just amazing! I, too, learned this trick by accident. In my case I'd left the kitchen without setting a timer and simply forgot how long they'd been boiling, so I shut the eye off and let the dogs sit in the cooling water for about 10 minutes. When I pulled them out I was like, "WOW...these things are huge!" And they were so tasty! Now I know whatever I did worked out like Steve is demonstrating here. Now I make all my hot dogs like this except for when we are griling outside. RIP Steve!

We had boiled hotdogs at my grandma's house every Sunday. They kept them on simmer all day after boiling them to your timeframe. They never split because of the low heat. I like my hotdogs boiled better than broiled in the oven or grilled on charcoal. Here recently I've wondered how they would turn out grilled after being boiled. I wind up eating whatever I see you cook. You had a talent for getting people to eat and putting them in a good mood. You should have been the 2016 president. Best wishes to you and your family 😁

Wow ..I'm telling ya, we are so much alike, I think he and I are twins separated at birth..(not literally) seriously though, it's uncanny how much we think alike..there's a lot in common with our way of cooking..almost every video I watch, he does or says something and I think " hey, that me"..haha I looove boiled hot dogs. I boil them up (maybe change out the water to get rid of some of the salt) and I'll let em sit in the water a couple hours..reminds me of when I was a kid and mom I would go shopping and occasionally get some hot dogs from one of those hot dog push carts..I'm 52 now, mom passed in 07 and to this day, I still fix them in the water..now, if I'm really hungry and dont want to wait, I'll pop em in the air fryer..but, 90% of the time, it's a water bath..haha...I wish I could have met him..

Hi love watching your videos .In Ausralia we have saveloys [savs] that are an inch thick and have a red skin. The skin is dyed with the dye used by meat inspectors to show the origin of the animal , fit for human consumption and inspectors number .In the early 80s about the time of the meat substitute scandal between Australia and the USA. I worked at a factory and was operating a machine that cut and mixed the meat for savs , cheeros [cocktail frankfurt] ,footy franks[American style hotdogs with red skin] and orange skinned American hotdogs . The meat filling was exactly the same mixture in the lot and all were cooked in big smoker ovens for 4 - 6 hours , the American styles didn't get smoke just heat.Savs are traditional football tucker just a fresh bread roll [over here buns are sweet like hot crossed buns exept at US fast food franchises ,here round or long rolls are bread] sliced a hot sav and tomato sauce that is similar to your ketchup .We do a hot dog at home, sliced toasted and buttered bread roll the a slice or some grated cheese add some fryed bacon any style ,some carmelised onion then the hotdog-sav add tomato sauce .
