First, I do not need to justify my career to anyone. With that being said, I have never had a citizen complaint filed against me. I always treated every person with dignity and respect regardless of whether that person was the mayor of the city or a person having to live on the streets through difficult times. Secondly, I know nothing about you, just like you know nothing about me. Thusly I will not begin to even speculate why you have the attitude that you have. I don't know if you have had negative interactions with Law Enforcement or what, but I am proud of the career that I had serving and protecting the citizens of my community. Sadly, in our society, it seems that only the NEGATIVE aspects are polarized, and the positive is swept to the side. I can honestly say that when the GOOD LORD calls me home and I stand before him in judgment. I know that I can stand there without fear of how I treated people while doing my job. I hope you will be able to do the same.

Even if there was a warrant on the driver, or a relative, they couldn’t compel ID from the passenger. It’s a 4th amendment violation to open the door. Cop illegally prolongs the stop by standing around making up crimes. Because tractor trailers are the preferred vehicles for drug dealers.

I got pulled over for a broken tail light once, and it turned into a bit with the cop trying to get me for drinking and driving. I had just got done playing a basketball game, was still sweating, and had my shirt off in the car because the A/C hadn't cooled the car enough (it was a hot summer evening in SoCal). After getting me out of the car, trying to get up in my face to smell alcohol, and asking why I was all sweaty he backed off when I told him I just got done with a game and was heading home. He then proceeded to give me crap about my broken tail light (which it was and was more of a crack, just happened earlier in the week) and then let me go with a warning. If he had asked me to do a roadside test I would have refused and said take me in for the blood test (which you could do in CA at that time). I knew that would put him on his heels because I knew I would test clean, and that I had grounds for illegal stop and arrest. I've known plenty of cops over my life. Some are cool and don't pull this crap, but a lot of them are on power trips and shouldn't be on the force.

My trick to avoid the "why didn't you stop sooner" trap is to slow down when I see the lights and put on hazard flashers. Normally they start directing you where they want you to pull over. Cops are too jumpy these days stay safe from the road pirates.

Ok, I think there's a communication breakdown here and it's because despite the reason given for not stopping immediately, the guy didn't stop the vehicle. If a cop suspects that you're hoarding drugs in your vehicle and sirens you to stop, what most will do in that situation is keep rolling the vehicle and quickly try to dispose of whatever they have out of the window before coming to a stop. I think this is what the cop thought he might have been doing and he probably should have been better at explaining himself. A cop can stop you if he has reasonable cause to suspect you of a crime. However, if there was nothing wrong with the guy's mud flaps, he should not have even been pulled over in the first place, so this cop is wrong either way.

Unfortunately in Florida, a law just passed; A police officer can search a vehicle without a warrant or driver's consent under Florida law if: The officer has probable cause to believe the car has illegal drugs or contraband. Someone in the car is arrested and searching the vehicle is related to the arrest.

I think anyone who doesn't reach over and lock all their doors when they're being pulled over isnt very bright. Also if you know there's no smell of marijuana and you know you're being illegally detained then always refuse to open your door ir comply with any constitutional violation. Learn your rights do not let yourself be walked on and make sure all your friends and family do the same. The only thing I can say the driver "maybe" did wrong was not signaling to the officer that he was pulling ahead to a safer location. In my experience at least, this has always ended up with the officers acting far more cordial than if I stopped in a lane. But the way this cop was acting, tbh, the dude coulda had a flashing neon sign saying he was looking for a safe spot to stop and he still woulda fucked up imo.
