i enjoy listening to your channel! thank you. from my point of view having lived with a tribe that has a non punishing justice system, instead they organise a 'mediation and amends' as their justice system .. it is very respectful to the 'criminal' as well as to the 'victim' and generates a high moral standard in the community .. they have a saying that to shame an individual for antisocial behavior pushes the individual further away from the community making them a greater danger not a lesser danger. their entire society is nonviolent due to numerous intelligent principles they have lived by for millennia.. i think we all , our societies, have made a serious mistake arguing for punishment and shame as a deterrent for crime .. their is an interesting Harvard professor on a ted talk ( name??) who also points to studies and programs that have shown mediation and amends by the perpetrator to the victim and treats the perpetrator with respect rather than contempt, have been more effective as a deterrent and for giving a sense of justice and conclusion for the victim. it also gives the victim tangible benefits from the perpetrator rather than charging tax payers million of dollars for punishment. and considering the private prison system is now a favourite investment for the wealthy we seem to be going in the wrong direction.. more than one mass shooting a day in the US .. i think its clear we need to rethink the logic of our justice system!

In Finland the prisons aren't supposed to be a punishment. The loss of freedom is. They still have human rights and deserve to be in a place that's dry, warm and safe (relatively safe obviously depending on what you're in for). It's sappy and liberal but if we want to act like a civilized society we have to go the whole way. I don't like that pedos get extra safety in prison but that's the logical extension to giving everyone a chance to rehabilitate safely.

@shelltoe_soul
@shelltoe_soul Жыл бұрын
@@torontoenvironment9899 we could but people in America, especially conservatives, don't care about the conditions inside jails and prisons. They actually want it to be as miserable as possible for people, because they also don't care about actually providing help or any forms of real assistance for those who are incarcerated, or even just those who are accused of a crime. My homeboy went to his last probation meeting after 3 years of perfect behavior and adhering to all the rules and stipulations they put on him, an actual model citizen besides the fact that he was on probation, and he was taken into custody on the spot for a supposed failed drug test, because he had been suddenly assigned a new probation officer, not even notified of this change before hand, and this new officer was similarly not notified that he had a medical exception granted by the previous officer. So when he "failed" his drug test just like he had every single time for the previous 3 years, he was tricked into appearing at their offices, put right into cuffs, and taken away with no chance to present his side of the story. They gave him almost no opportunity to contact anyone, he was taken to a privatized holding facility, denied access to the outside world or any form of legal representation, the payphones were nearly inoperable, the very few select working phones permanently in use by a rotating cast of the biggest and hardest thugs in the facility. Then he was defrauded for the little money that he did have in their commissary, being forced to prepay for items that were never given to him if they were ever ordered at all. People were beaten to death or otherwise died under suspicious circumstances regularly. This privatized holding facility is in Waco, TX, where the same shady prison company has several of these hell holes, including one that is unoccupied which they hope that ICE will use to house detainees from the border. He was on probation from Comal County / New Braunfels, TX. It was literal hell on earth, people getting weird infections that were left untreated, everyone got COVID numerous times, all kinds of crazy stuff. Effectively it was run like a concentration camp. All of this is basically no big deal in the mind of the average conservative, because most of the guys in this facility were latino or black, and seen as criminals, as this class of scum that doesn't deserve to have decency or fair treatment, as long as that means they can reduce taxes by some tiny fraction of a percent, because big gubermint is bad or some shit. When they finally sorted their paperwork out and realized they falsely incarcerated him and were totally liable to be sued, they proceed to threaten him and forced him to sign paperwork under duress. The prison systems here are so coldly evil and designed to induce pure misery for the people unfortunate enough to be housed in them. We could do so much more to help turn peoples lives around but we won't, because certain parts of America loves to watch it burn, to see unending misery and violence, especially in the inner city, just like we always have a new war to fight so it never ends. My friend did literally everything the system asked of him, somehow still fell thru these cracks in the supposed "justice" system, and then was explicitly dehumanized, threatened, extorted, etc until his will was broken, far beyond the point of ever even considering trying to get some form of compensation or true justice for the flagrant injustices committed by the very system that is supposed to ensure our protection.

Learn more about Finland and you will find out that whole society is organised differently (e.g. schools) because the society/citizens is/are different than in many countries. Therefore, if it is possible there, it does not mean it is possible everywhere. You want to organise prisoners life but the thing is they also have their part of responsibility. I guess it is more complex.

If the jail is good enough for all the inmates currently housed there awaiting trial and sentenced to county years then it’s good enough for young thug he’s not special cuz he is signed to a 7 figure contract I’m sure it’s not his first time in county jail it’s probably not even his first time in that county jail

Lol if he's only uncomfortable then it's not that bad of a withdraw.. It should be considered pretty lucky. Muscle aches are nothing too convulsing, the chills and sweats, puking and shitting your pants that hardcore withdraw brings with it. He's able to sit there so it's not to bad. As a CO, I've seen much much worse withdraws. The only people they take into medical are alcoholics as the detox is deadly. Although I have seen benzodiazepines withdrawal land them medical as well because they can end up having seizures and it an also be deadly. Although if I'm honest I feel like they should give methadone or suboxone treatment in jail for a few reasons. People withdrawing in jail makes it very uncomfortable for other inmates and staff that have to deal with it. I know many would disagree but I get absolutely no pleasure from seeing someone withering in pain on the ground, puking and shitting. It's not pretty. And they usually have a cellmate or worse, in a dorm pod. Imagine having to live with that in an enclosed space. I also feel like using drugs- not selling- is a ridiculous reason to put people in jail when the jails are so fuckin overcrowded with not enough staff and resources. I feel like these people need different resources for help. Not jail because it does not help at all and obviously has done NOTHING to solve the drug problem. We've been doing this "war on drugs" for decades and not only has it not gotten better, it's gotten worse. So maybe we should try something else. Anyway sorry for the rant. Just saying he's in better shape than I've seen others and if you're sitting in jail then it's a good thing you're not that bad.

I only been to jail once for 12 hours. The CO’s were complete d*cks. Until this white dude came to the door. He looked like he wasn’t trying to hear what I had to say, but after a few minutes he came back let me get my phone call then shortly helped me get processed out.

In all seriousness why isn't jail comfortable? They're already sequestered from all of society including everyone that they love might as well make it comfortable so that they're on their best behavior and serve their time like decent human beings!

It's hilarious to me how people complain about jail being unpleasant hahahaha. I've been locked up about a dozen times in my life and they were all "unpleasant" I have been in over crowded cells where people had to stand for hours and hours, the food is worse than school food. I had to fight just to use the goddamn phone but not once did I ever complain about the conditions. Thats weak to me and makes you look weak I knew how messed up it was gonna be that's how it goes. I don't plan on going back haven't been arrested in 10 years now and plan on staying that way. All these tough guys cry about the conditions.

As a felon i agree, them people were the “drama queens” lol it sucks, but oh well, but in my experience when a C.O doesnt let you get toilet paper (we were allowed one roll, and if you ran out you need turn in empty roll to get a new one) that sucks. Or when showers were overflowing with the next pods sewer water, floor flooded with sewer water, and we had to clean it up in our sandals and since it happened after lockdown we couldn’t take a shower after cleaning with literal shit on our feet, like i get what you are saying but the day to day conditions arent are thats there
