I really appreciate the explanation. I only crochet a baby blanket once for my baby granddaughter ( crib size ) and one beanie. But when I attempted to make a beanie for my daughter...it was another story! After my third attempt I had to find help. I was making a cone, and of course when I watched your video I understood I just needed a larger hook :-). This information is very valuable. Thank you kindly.

oh i love you so much! I used your tutorial (while i was VERY new btw) to make my son a beanie that i made into a viking helmet. I wanted to do a mini-photo shoot with my newborn daughter, so i wanted to make her a bear hat.....i should have just come back to your video....i used another persons video and 3 attempts later and a very ripply start, i undid it and came back to you. you're the only one that does it right for me. *hugs from USA*

This. Is. Awesome. Thank you so much. When I started to crochet, I tried making hats way too early and got discouraged. After 10 years, maybe it's time to try again! (I now do a ton of other projects: blankets, bags, anything that isn't clothing!)

video notes for myself - if it lays flat, go down a hook size - if it curves too quick, go up a hook size - inc rows until circumference on outside of beanie is ~1 inch / 2cm smaller than the measurement of the head - if want baggier beanie : add more (1-2) rows, no inc (i dont want this)

WOW... WOW... WOW .... TY SO MUCH!!! Gosh only video that is SO informative! Cant ty you enough! *** TIP: As for the magic circle... but I do know to prevent the big hole in the center of the top of your beanie / cap ... after your first or foundation round, PULL the tail created to start your chain, do this before starting round 2 or sl st or chaining. Works every time for me. SO, magic circle is so not needed!

great video! Thankyou! I kept thinking there must be a correlation between the diameter and the finished circumference of a hat but never thought to measure around it!! And the chunky wool... i made a hat and thought I did something wrong. now I know what I did wrong was to make it out of chunky yarn! never again! Brilliant video as usual!

Yes you will make the crown of the hat, you will keep increasing on each row until it reaches the measurement that you said and then when you have it that size you will STOP increasing and continue with the sides of the hat with NO increasing

Hi, that happend to the best of us :) I would try doing 1 less increase round, i was shared the following information as well today , i am yet to try it the mathematical formula for getting circumference if you know the diameter (measurement across hat). You just measure from 1 edge to the other and multiply that number by 3.142 & the answer you get is the measurement of the circumference.

Clare, I don't do the magic ring either, I really dislike it. What I do is chain 3, DC in your 1st chain stitch at the tail, DC in there. I do it with all my Granny's, just make sure that you bring your straggler around with it.

I can't do magic circle. I've made three different beanies. The first one was made with chunky yarn and came up way too big, so I undid and remade it again and it came up too small. So the next two I used Aran and DK/8ply. But still I had problems. Either too big or small. So thanks very much for this video because I think it will help me alot better now. I prefer to work in the continous round too because joining leaves huge hole, well it does with me.

If you measure the radius of a circle, you can find the circumference (distance around circle) by using the formula: C=2πr where π (Pi) equals 3.14. For example: if your crown circle measures 4 inches across from center to outer edge (radius), then the circumference = 2 x 3.14 x 4 which equals 25.12"
@VampliFyer
@VampliFyer Жыл бұрын
Circumference when using distance across entire circle (Diameter) is C = 3.14 x d. If your diameter measures 8 inches, then C= 3.14 x 8 = 25.12" *Hope that helps*

Ok, I've been having this problem lately. When you slip stitch in the first single crochet and then single, or double crochet in that same stitch and continue doing rows maybe 7, until u stop with the increase, my hat puckers (lump) right in the top of the hat where the sem is put together . that's if I do 2 stitches in the first stitch or 2 stitches when I'm ending my round. Why is that??.
