Who saves the Catholic? Jesus or the priest who reads their last rights?

Frank is often asked if Catholics can be saved, to which he usually responds, “I even think some Baptists can be saved.” The point being, it's not about what denomination you call home, but about whether or not you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. So why do so many Catholics worry about who reads their last rights?

Repent in the greek language means to change your mind/ shift your way of thinking. The only thing that needs to be repented of is unbelief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and He paid your sin debt in FULL. Now do we want to stop sinning? Ofcoarse, but we cannot as we are in these sinful bodies, this flesh wars against the Spirit, and we are all a work in progress, God will not make you sinless in an instant but He wants us to come to Him for strength and patience. Only faith. Only grace. Only Jesus.

@@gregt616 It’s how Christ plainly stated over and over again and points back to the requirement of the Israelites eating of the flesh of the Passover Lamb and being marked by the blood, either by the doorposts during the Passover or by it being sprinkled on them. Also, the life is in the blood, so Jesus invites us to receive the divine life of love through the consumption of His blood. It is certainly radical and is why only His closest disciples were willing to remain with Him after He emphatically and repeatedly stated that we must do so to have eternal life. Making it merely metaphorical cheapens the sacrifice of Christ as the associated covenantal meal is made less than the ones it supersedes.

But that's just it, Baptism is nothing more than an outward symbol your inner affection and dedication to accepting Christ as Lord and Savior, it in itself is not what saves you. If you're not repenting of your sins, that's a good sign you're not saved. Repent means change of mind with the regret over choosing otherwise earlier, we are saved and therefore repent, not repent and therefore saved. So yes repentance doesn't save us, but if you don't have repentance after you've "been saved" you should really reconsider if you have the the holy spirit or not inside you, because he will convict you of unrepented sin until you repent

Also baptism isn't required, don't add your filthy rags and works to the righteousness Christ gave you. That verse is talking about the baptism of the holy spirit. The thief on the cross wasn't baptized, yet Jesus still welcomed him in heaven, why? Simple, he was baptized with the holy spirit, he repented and accepted him on the cross after Jesus spoke to him.

The eucharist is not really a "resacrifice" it's the one sacrifice made present in an unbloody manner and offered to god You are saved by baptism (John3:3-5) and faith, but a living faith (james 2). Btw many forget that it is not only the Roman Catholic church who believe that the Eucharist is truly the body and blood of Jesus, there are also the Eastern Catholic Churches ( because yes the catholic church isn't only roman ) who believes the same, some Protestant churches too ( Yes you aren't dreaming ) like the Lutherans *but* not in the same as Catholics ( the Lutheran Dr Cooper as a video about it "5 proofs that the sacrement is the true body and blood of Christ" ) they believe in a real presence, there is also the Orthodox church who recognises a transformation during the liturgy but they reject the "scholatic" term "Transubstantiation" because as they say the roman catholic church is trying too hard to explain what happened during the liturgy while they see it more as a phenomenon beyond human comprehension, this is why they prefer to call It a mystery like their other sacraments etc... If you wanna learn the Catholic faith with a Catholic, I suggest you the channels "Catholic Productions" ( for great bible teaching with Brant Pitre and John Bergsma ), "Catholic Answers" ( for answers ), the channel "Gospel Simplicity" ( which is an ecumenical channel held by Austin who is a Protestant who presents on his channel debates, conversations etc... between Christians from different backgrounds ) and finally the channel "Counsel of Trent" ( for rebuttal videos )

The former name of the sacrament was 'last rites', not 'rights'. It is now known as annointing of the sick. God judges the heart. Most Catholic Christians acknowledge that Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life, and is the only way to the Father.

We Catholics don´t think we are sacrificing our lord Jesus Christ every single mass. The sacrifice of our lord is one and eternal, we are just spiritually participating in his sacrifice on mount Calvary (we are at the foot of the cross) and through the transubstantiation the priest offers God the Son to God the father through God the Holy spirit. And even though we do believe in confession as the main way to cleanse our sins ( not through the virtue of the priest but through the authority of Jesus conferred unto him) we also accept that perfect contrition is sufficient because Jesus is never a reason for damnation and his divine mercy is so great, that he will cleanse our sins even if they are the most terrible if we just open our hearts to him. But doesn't the Bible teach that Jesus is the only Mediator? So why the need for other or proxy mediators? Why does the Bible teach that "we can boldly come to the throne of grace" (Hebrews 4:16)? It is because of the finished work of Jesus which caused the veil to be torn. Jesus is described as a merciful and faithful high priest in Hebrews 2:17. Because of Jesus the High Priest, we can come boldly to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). In the same Epistle, Jesus is the “High Priest of our confession” (Hebrews 3:1). Jesus is a trustworthy high priest, as God the Father counted Him faithful (Hebrews 3:2). We don't need human priests to mediate for us as they did under the Mosaic Law. That ended with Christ.

There are no two people on this Eartg that agree on every theolohical detail. We need to learn to stop at the basics. If they accept they're saved by grace through faith, let them be. If you are Christian and therefore believe or follow Jesus, the first thing is to not worry. Be careful of these so called prophets, I will encourage you to read the scriptures. Start with the four gospels and you will see what the Father and Son are about. "Do this in remembrance of me" does not mean "do this to be saved". It has nothing to do with John 6, and in John 6:35 Christ says you COME to him and you will never hunger, you BELIEVE in him and you will never thirst. This is how you eat his flesh and drink his blood. You come to him and believe in him. He says it so plainly yet every catholic just hears "eat flesh, drink blood, communion is qutomatically connected because pope says so" because its all the satanic church preaches to keep you chained to their idols and false christ the eucharist as Jesus describes in Matt 24:24-26. Hiya, hope you're well. You're right, God does know everything. God created us as people who have free will- choice. He did that because he loves us enough not to force us into anything. God wants all of us to believe and trust in jesus so we may be saved and live with him, but, this is our choice. He can't force us to do what we do not want to do. Some people will choose, in this life, to do bad, others to do good, some to choose jesus, others to reject him. Unfortunately, due to sin from Adam and eve, some people will choose to do wrong, and some will choose to reject jesus. However, to believe and trust jesus as our Lord and Saviour, means we are free to live doing 'good things' (what God wants us to do) and we will live with God for eternity. I hope this makes sense? Every church I visited treated me like family, until they found out I'm Catholic. After that I was ignored and treated like an outcast. I think sometimes we just get a little to wrapped up in these debates, we are so adamant to prove that what we follow is the correct way that we forget the important things. No entire denomination is saved or unsaved. People within those denominations must make a decision to repent and believe in the One that He sent, acknowledging Jesus died for their sins and rose again. Some Protestants are saved, some aren’t. Some Baptists are saved, some aren’t. Some Catholics are saved, some aren’t. This is a personal decision one makes for Christ. A denomination can’t make that decision for you.

If they really looked into what they believe for about 5 minutes, they’d see whether their path was correct. Otherwise, they’re being willingly ignorant. I can relate to my point by saying this: I had fairly poor catechism classes at my church (as a kid, all I remember was coloring pages with Jesus talking to children while surrounded by animals). So what did I do? I started asking questions, and looking for actually answers. I even looked into other churches, including Methodist, Baptist, non-denominational, and even Mormonism (which I ran away from the fastest). Through my search, I ALWAYS recognized what was true and what was false by basic logic and recognizing discrepancies and contradictions with facts. People who, for example, think that Catholics worship statues, and then can’t see how obviously false that is, are those who are willingly ignorant. This applies to every single other false accusation against the Church. It staggers me how people still misunderstand so many things about what the Catholic Church teaches. It’s NOT a lie when it’s the truth.

Christ’s bloody sacrifice on Calvary took place once, and it will never be repeated. To repeat his sacrifice would be to imply that the original offering was defective or insufficient, like the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament that could never take away sins. After all, if Calvary didn’t get the job done, then the Mass won’t help. It is precisely because the death of Christ was sufficient that the Mass is celebrated. It does not add to or take away from the work of Christ-it is the work of Christ.

As a Catholic she needs, according to her faith, both the sacrament of confession & communion by Holy Eucharist. She's already saved but she wants the fullness of grace that is offered in these Catholic sacraments. It's not an issue of her salvation unless she has unrepentant grave sin aka mortal sin 1Cor6:9-10. She does need to be given the grace by all Christians to be allowed to follow her faith. @@WildPhotoShooter I’m not sure what’s convincing and what’s not for you but here are some. The book The Case For Miracles by Lee Strobel talks about why miracles prove Christianity. There are lots of random medical miracles associated with Christianity or like people hearing what they believe to be Jesus. There is also the miracle of Fatima, I’d look into tbag one it happened like a century ago and thousands of people witnessed “the sun dance” and skeptics came on purpose to disprove it - I would recommend googling it. There are also some Eucharistic miracles that have occurred which I feel like this guy might have been talking about but I’m not sure if those would be convincing. Honestly Fatima is one that really seems hard to explain otherwise. Anyway I know you might disagree with this but I recommend checking out these things if you are ever interested :) thanks for reading

Remember that Jesus founded a Church and didn't write a Bible, he left the apostles with Peter as the leader and the sacraments for a reason. But 5 verses later Jesus showed that Peter is weak by saying get behind me satan. A human being is no foundation for the Kingdom of God. For His church. Btw the gates of hell have prevailed over the catholic church..just look at all the scandals of homosexuality, rape and sodomy and murder done by priests. The Bible says our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because we are the Church. When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you become His church and the command God gave was for us to make disciples of all nations, not to build a church. Only God can build His church by His Spirit and the gates of hell will not prevail. When the Holy Spirit is within you, you become a new creation 2 Corinthians 5:17. You get a new nature. A nature that hates sin. A nature that strives to please God and do His will. A nature with authority over all the power of the devil. This nature can overcome sin because it is the Spirit of Christ. Sins like pornography, lying, bitterness, addiction etc are overcome with time as long as the Believer is consistent with reading the Bible. Remaining in Christ for Him to remain in you.

You made me read The Bible today, but I must confess (pun intended) that I failed to see how that passage can be construed as a command to confess your sin to a prebyster? It says to "one another", and is more akin to a "group support" for one another, rather than a prescription for a prebyster to be an intermediary between you and God.

This is interesting, however , it is not as simple as "don't matter what church you attend, just accept Jesus". Each Christian church (or more correctly each denomination) differs on some things , some small, some big. It does matter because Jesus did not create multiple churches with different ideas and teachings of Him, so that people would go wherever they prefer. He only created one church, the Roman Catholic Church. Therefore other priests, and ministers would not be properly given the power to do what catholic priests alone can do such as forgiving sins, and converting bread and wine into the blood and flesh of Jesus. This is not simply being nice to accommodate someone but rather a very important issue which you do not want to get wrong.

Anti Catholicism is based largely on misunderstandings and misrepresentations of the Church. I would recommend to anyone genuinely interested in the moral teachings to read a pre-Vatican 2 catechism. The Catechism of The Council of Trent or Bishop Marrows My Catholic Faith are good choices.

Hey brother Frank, there is perhaps a minor oversight here. While it is true, that if one confesses with his mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believes in his heart that he is raised from the dead, he will be saved... ...it's also true, that a person who truly believes that, won't go through all the rituals. Your mother shouldn't (or at least at some point in the future, should stop) be operating with the idea of 'all bases covered'. There is only one base that covers one. And that's Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Hence why most Catholics, aren't saved. They aren't entering God's kingdom. For they don't solely put their trust in Jesus. They exalt their papacy along with as well.

The sacraments of the Church weren't created by a Pope, they were created by Jesus and passed down through the Catholic Church. If one believes in Jesus as their savior, maybe they ought to start listening to what he commanded. Just believing that salvation exists in Christ doesn't save someone, you need to take that salvation proactively, live a Christian life and be a living example of Christ.
