I was so scared of this cave as a kid. When I first entered the dark cave only to see my character in a pitch black screen with daylight flickering through the entrance behind me, I got the chills. That combined with this creepy music is what caused me to avoid this cave for as long as possible.

Those exact reasons are why I was always eager to get Flash and explore what I could. Though I was scared I would lose the game from all the wild pokemon and getting lost. That cave was scary.

Gen 2 had the best darkness. You could only see your sprite, no circle of light around you and no wall outlines like gen 1.

Honestly Gen 1-6 all had banger themes. The modern ones do too, especially in battle themes, but they don't have that kick in the overworld themes.

Old version is a million times better than the remake ... This actually got the shivers out of you as a kid and made you feel like you was almost in that cave and danger could get you any moment, and also the feeling of isolation.. sat in your bed playing this at night it made for a really hooked experience a long with the effects of moving boulders etc The new version isn't strong enough and is a bit more light-hearted, doesn't make you feel like there is any danger

A thing I noticed in Johto is that most cave places used that other cave them... so dark cave and ice path feel a lot better

This is my favorite cave theme of the entire franchise. Nothing compares, seriously! It's so great and kinda relaxing. It makes me think of how elegant and grand the rest of the Johto journey will be, especially in the remakes (although this theme isn't as good there and it's FUCKING MISSING from Slowpoke Well), first going up against my waifu (poor Clair suffering from the same curse as Lt. Surge although she does have Kingdra [and Gyarados in the remakes]) and then the Kimono Girl battles and the mascot legendary battle and such.

My whole childhood, I wondered from which game, or band this music came from, but I would never know from where and why this theme sometimes came out of my head... All until a few days ago when I bought the Pokémon Gold emulator for the 2DS XL. This is an awesome cave soundtrack.

More than 11 years ago, I remember a time playing Pokémon crystal. On a long car ride from one of my relatives’ houses I had a purple transparent Gameboy color. Bought it at a thrift shop. I had been playing my copy of crystal I had gotten on loan from an old babysitter. it was a late car ride, and I distinctly remember having a pair of my cheap little headphones I had also bought at the thrift shop. I was so determined to beat the 8th gym after hours of struggling with a pretty poorly balanced team. But I had my dragon rage spamming red Gyarados and my typhlosion I distinctly remember had thunder punch. I struggled through the ice path, unable to find my way. Barely being able to see with only streetlights on the highway lighting the game up once every couple of seconds. The only thing that accompanied me was this theme.
