I agree that it was fun and one of the better marvel movies I’ve seen in a while, but the thing about Deadpool is he isn’t all fun and comedy. Not in the comics nor the movies. He’s always had a strong emotional core that made you feel for the character, all of the horrible shit he’s dealt with, it makes him complex. Here I just didn’t feel very compelled by any of the emotional moments. It was fun but there wasn’t a reason to care.

I honestly liked that Wolverine never seemed fully changed his thoughts on Deadpool by the end of the film. It felt realistic to me, especially for how the characters are portrayed in the film. He was never gonna like Deadpool’s inability to shut up, but he has a higher tolerance for it now, which I think makes sense. I have friends that get on my nerves sometimes too. They spent a few days with each other at best, and I liked that the movie considered that aspect at the end and went about their growing relationship with that and their characters in mind.

I agree, not to mention it’s fully accurate to their dynamic in the comics. It was clever on the writers not to make them permanently best friends or something. I think in the end Logan does have a begrudging respect for him if anything.

While the first deadpool was described as a romance movie, and the second as a family movie, the third falls in line by being a somewhat meta take on what it means to be a superhero movie. Or in deadpools case, a "real" superhero movie. And thay comes with the baggage of deeming some superhero movies as unworthy, not good enough to continue existing. The disney heads labeling them as unprofitable. But those heros are still people in deadpools world. They have stories to tell and desverve to have a home. So he undoes the notion that the mcu is some kind of holy standard, showing all these movies are worthy. A superhero movie isn't defined by the box office, but by the heroes within them. And that should be how we look at the genre today

@slappy0917

the movie was undoubtedly a love letter to the pre-ironman marvel movies in the same way that no way home was for the other spidermen, so even with its flaws, i'm glad it exists and gives these characters and actors a final chapter that they deserved. deadpool was the only possible character that could lead a movie like this, so i think it worked. my main gripe with the movie is it sometimes just feels like disney is patting itself on the back. the criticisms of modern MCU in this movie kind of fall flat when it's mostly disney just poking fun at itself and we have no idea if marvel movies are ever going to have a legitimate comeback in quality. deadpool & wolverine bringing back so many old faces is a double-edged sword, because disney refusing to let certain IPs die is a problem people have been pointing out for many years but it's also a uniquely good thing about this movie that people loved. i have very complicated feelings about this movie which i definitely did not expect going into the deadpool three-quel lmao

4:29. Schaffrillas, my boy. Did you pay attention to the movie? He cares for Deadpool because he doesn't want his friends/universe to be killed the same way the X-Men of Wolverine's got killed and he sees an opportunity to make his wrongs right by saving Deadpool's universe, paralleling on how he messed up by deciding to not join/help the X-Men.
@mikamicki
@mikamicki 3 ай бұрын
Literally! It's so obvious that their stories are somewhat parallel. Wade is clearly a good guy just trying to do right by his closest friends and Logan sees that and wants to let him have what he couldn't. And Deadpool deciding to sacrifice himself instead makes sense too, he should be the one to save his friends, and Logan is a friend to him, he doesn't want him to die either.

Collosus would object to pretty much everything and stop wolverine and wade from fighting each other, yukio isn't very strong mutant, i think she can see how people die but that's it. Negasonic would also be useless because Cassandra wouldve just popped her like a balloon. So I want to give a different take on the movie. Deadpool and Wolverine was more about giving celebration to the forgotten Comic Book Movies of the past, the ones that never caught on or got rebooted in some way. Sure it's cheesy at times, but I think in an era where every major franchise likes to pretend its messier history doesn't exist, seeing the villains from the pre-reboot X-Men show up in the void, movies get acknowledged without making fun at their expense, there was something beautiful about it. Also shoutouts to Chris Evans for real, he seems super happy to revisit characters he's played in the past and mess around. He's like the good ending to Harrison Ford having mountains of legacy.

While the execution of the story is somewhat jumbled, I do think that there's a solid and shockingly cohesive message behind it that ties in really well with the whole meta-narrative regarding Fox's superhero movies and the MCU. Ultimately, it's a story about ones legacy. Deadpool wanting to save his universe is just as much, if not more, about wanting to save the story that was told in Deadpool 1 and 2, rather than it being "thrown away" because it won't serve the MCU canon. His desperate need to be a hero, and his failure to join the Avengers at the start of the film is meant to signify the different perceptions that people had towards a Fox superhero movie and a Disney/Marvel superhero movie, back when they were separate entities at least. The latest entry in the MCU was an event, their heroes were idolized, where as Fox movies were much more uneven, partly due to lacking that sort of "team-up" that Deadpool/Ryan Reynolds so desperately wanted with the X-Men/Wolverine/Hugh Jackman. It wasn't just the jokes that were meta, the purpose and heart of the movie itself, also relies on it. The movies by Fox were a mixed bag, but it shouldn't be something that's just thrown away and forgotten. It won't work with everybody considering that some of the material being referenced is 20+ years old at this point, but I do think that the message about legacy shines through and that the performances especially capture the gravitas of what's at stake. The credits showing behind the scenes footage just further solidifies it.

I think you've missed the point of the movie. This movie is a commentary on the current state of cinematic universes. Wolverine was the "anchor" of that timeline since the fox universe relied on him (Hugh Jackman) to carry the movies. After Logan, the universe stopped and kinda started to fade out, hence the long time to delete the timeline and literally the fox logo in the void. Paradox wanted to reboot the franchise by destroying the timeline The "marvel Jesus" bit was Deadpool recognizing this and accepting to be the only character Disney cared/allowed to bring to the MCU. It isn't a coincidence that Happy (Jon Favreau, mcu's actual ceo) was deciding if he could join the avengers. Moreover the cameos were meant to show how a movie should be remembered fondly as it was made, not as something that could add up to a monopolistic cinematic universe. Most of the characters in the void were recasts (like magneto) or characters that were excluded from the fox universe in a way or another. Even the characters that were just cited of being sent to the void followed this rule (like daredevil or quicksilver). I believe this movie was meta, non in a 4-th wall break way, but as a commentary on the franchises themselves. It's a farewell to the fox universe that wants the audience to remember the movies as they were and why they liked it in the first place and to not disregard them just because they're not in the mcu(sacred timeline), while giving some happy endings/fan service to those almost forgotten characters all in a fun action packed movie. There are many, many more scenes that have a mostly symbolic meaning (digging the grave, wolverine being the "wrong one", not changing the past, critique of multiverse, ...) but I think I've made my point clear.

To take almost every single line in this film and make it double layered, first serving the in film narrative and then second to have an overal meta meaning is pure genius. The time it would've taken to write it this way... its like an easter egg in every sentence uttered. I don't understand how people can say that this isn't "original" I've never seen this done in a film in my life and I've probably watched like a thousand movies. People saying it was boring just tells me that they couldn't look beyond the basic narrative purpose of these lines. This film has to be one of my favourites ever, it pays so much homage to the films and comics I grew up experiencing.

Hard disagree. While they are fun, silly, R-Rated gooffests, the Deadpool movies still had an emotional core that was compelling enough to give it's narrative a little more weight and complete the adaptation of the character. If this movie doesn't do that as well, it's a legitimate criticism to point out it was a subpar aspect this time around.

You would think he'd put a bit more effort into making sure he actually understood what he watched before making a review. Personally, I felt the breakup was a little shoehorned in. Not out of a misunderstanding of the order of events, but because it's hard to break such a strong preexisting writing pattern. Deadpool's motives in the first two movies are intertwined with his love of Vennesa. Wanting her approval and wanting to know what she wants him to do once she's gone. It would be really hard to break that cycle.

The issue for me with this is that they threw that into the movie out of nowhere, in none of the previous two movies do they ever make it a point that Vanessa feels Wade is not an adequate partner, and I don't think they ever show Wade being insecure about this, he is insecure about what the experiment did to him in the first movie, but that was way before, and at the end of the second movie they're even planning on having children, I would've like them to at least try to show a little more about the breakup.

I understand that the movie lacked a good story. But to be fair, was that what anyone WANTED? I mean both Deadpool and Wolverine have already had their story play out- all the emotional found family, and coming into self-actualization stuff was over. The movie was exactly what it was supposed to be, an homage to these characters that have been pushed aside because they don't fit into the larger MCU, and to he honest we probably won't see again. I mean that was the underlying message of the whole movie, at least as I saw it (Deadpool gets rejected by the MCU, Wolverine isn't considered a good enough hero, they get thrown into a literal wasteland of characters Disney, probably won't ever touch, they almost get erased from existence.) It delivered everything I feel the fans wanted- in the time they were given, before their plug was pulled. The end credit behind the scenes homage to the X-man universe almost made me cry.

Honestly, I do think scaff is the wrong audience for this, I’m a 17 year old and I went to see it with my dad who is about 50 and we both enjoyed it so much, we were constantly laughing, and we even consider it to be a top 5 mcu film. And I mainly think that it is better for a more casual teen oriented audience as I didn’t care about its story as easily and didn’t need well structured thought out and well timed jokes to laugh. I say anyone should definitely try it out to see if it clicks for you, if not, it got you out the house and in the cinema. Just make sure to go with at least one loved one

Deadpool and Wolverine was honestly really great and enjoyable imo, and definitely one of the highest points of the post-Endgame MCU so far. Rather than just being a multiverse-hopping cameo fest, which it is to a degree, it feels like a love-letter to the Fox Marvel films in general and both shows respect and care for it as much as it also makes fun of it. This also has probably some of the best directed action scenes I’ve seen in an MCU film as well, with the last fight scene in particular being a definite treat. There were some minor issues I had (I do think the new Logan’s backstory could’ve been explored better, rather than it just being told and not shown to us), but overall it’s the most fun I’ve had in theaters all year and I’m largely considering seeing it again.

I recognized that this movie realistically has a lot of flaws, but the Fox Marvel movies have had a weirdly important place in key moments of my life, even if most of them are pretty bad, so I really liked Deadpool and Wolverine. It felt like saying goodbye to an era of superhero films that I grew up with, in particular the scene with Alioth, which oddly got me somewhat choked up. Same with the montage during the credits. I know this makes me sound like I’m just eating up corporate slop, but I was on a journey with these films, and now that they’re finally over, I’m excited for the next chapter of my life.

I wouldn't say MOST of the Fox Marvel movies are bad. There's plenty of good ones they've made, plenty of mid ones, and some pretty bad or plain awful ones. And honestly, them making that first X-Men movie in 2000 did a lot for the comic book movie genre at the time and I'm grateful for that

I absolutely loved the montage of the old x-men movies’ cast and production moments during the credits. It was a beautiful look back and, for me, shined a light on filmmaking that pretty much all movies tend to hide(because professionalism), which is the *people* behind these productions. These actors and set hands throughout the years have given us so many magical moments in these movies, and to humanize them by showing the sets without sfx and the moments behind the camera really touched me. It definitely wouldn’t work as well for a regular, one-shot movie, but the legacy these movies have left for us I think was beautifully captured there. I would say it’s also a great send off for Hugh Jackman, but if we’re being realistic, Disney isn’t gonna let him stop anytime soon

@@dappunk1people think it’s a decline and it’s (imo) just become a trend now. Everyone hates marvel because “marvel sucks! Marvel boo! Yucky marvel!” And you wanna be one of the cool people so you echo that idk. I think the only truly bad movies/shows in phase 4 are eternals, Thor 4, quantumania (which I believed to have redeeming qualities), and secret invasion. People act like every movie that comes out is a shit pile but I disagree wholeheartedly. Shang-chi, black widow, the marvels these are all *good* (in my subjective opinion) movies. Most of these are solid and/or fun and I think there are some really great projects in there like Loki seasons 1 and 2, Spider-Man far from home, guardians 3 holy cow, i really enjoyed Dr Strange multiverse of madness and I’m so confused how most people don’t but the hate train had already been started. Moonknight was also really good. It just annoys me, man. People come with the expectation to hate the movie (because it’s the cool thing to do now) and they’re completely blinded by that unless the movie is undeniably incredible (like guardians 3) for example the marvels: i really enjoyed. It’s not a masterpiece or anything but it’s a good movie and it really sucked to see people suddenly just hating on it. In the end, this is all just my personal feelings (and probably personal attachment to the characters and franchise) this is all subjective, but it’s also something I’m passionate about. I’m open to other views and other ideas but yeah the whole thing just…exhausts me (not just marvel, Star Wars and Pixar and Disney too the hate train is just draining tbh.

Respectfully, I find it kinda funny that Schaff has a problem with modern MCU humor, like when characters are too ironic after making intentionally cheesy or unfunny jokes, when almost all his videos have that exact same style of humor. Also, this review felt needlessly...critical? But not in a poignant way that says something about what the film is, but rather based on what the film clearly isn't. I respect that it just wasn't his thing, and I'm not saying the movie's a masterpiece or anything. It definitely has its issues. But his arguments didn't feel well reasoned.

The only complaint about this movie that I agree with is the fact that he and Vanessa broke up off-screen. Why the HELL did they do that?? Their relationship in the first movie was precious, the second one killed her off and then brought her back, her presence could still be felt throughout the whole story... and in the third one, they barely interact? Is it because their relationship was so intensely sexual, that Disney thought they couldn't dabble into it? They still made plenty of sex jokes between Deadpool and Wolverine, so why censor Vanessa?? That was very unfortunate to me.

6:53 I don’t know, I feel like dismissing movies that existed before the MCU is a inherently cynical view of them, especially when they tie in thematically to the movie. Like, the movie itself knows that not everything made prior to the MCU or made by other studios is perfect, but that they still matter and allow closure for those characters. Especially since X-Men is where Kevin Feige and Hugh Jackman got their start, this felt more like a love letter to the Legacy Marvel movies than an MCU movie.

Agreed, the fact the even brought back Blade, who has gone unmentioned since his films were finished, proves the people creating this film cared for the original Marvel films

Exactly. It didn’t feel or even seem like an MCU movie. Just a nod to older marvel. And I enjoyed that.

I seen someone make the argument “Well, it’s bad because it’s supposed to poke fun of bad writing.” What an L take.

Seeing my theater dressed up in Deadpool and Wolverine cosplay was an amazing experience. Also nice being in a crowd that's been there since the very beginning with Blade and the Fox era of Marvel. Also when Wolverine finally donned his cowl, it was like seeing the prophecy be fulfilled. Took them 24 years, but it was worth the wait.

That's so cool! I'm happy that you had great experience watching the movie. Mine wasn't as exciting, but the crowd was still hyped. Not as much compared to No Way Home tho.

@@onepresence9460 I went to the last IMAX showing of the day at my theater and other than the fact that the theater was HOT, I really loved this movie! I'm not a huge marvel fan but have been getting more into it, and man... Ryan Reynolds is fucking hilarious!
