Dean, definitely a keeper. I had an 81 just like this one. Black paint faded mainly due to over polishing and compounding before I realized the paint was being damaged. Was a 1st year Turbo, M46 w/OD, had the silver cloth interior with black carpet. Bought it new, Savanah Intl Motors, don't know if they're still in business? Kept it 20 years, around 195k miles, and like a dummy sold it in 2001. Have a silver 1984 Turbo now with 260k and would definitely keep the 82 you found, especially if the floors are clean. The trunk buckets usually rot some but can be fixed. The Virgo wheels are nice and original, I'd get them balanced and painted back to the original silver. Other areas to watch out for is rust around the front windshield. I couldn't tell from the video, but yours looked okay? Finally, I'd find an intercooler kit on Turbobricks or other Volvo sites or junk yard finds as the extra horsepower really helps. Hope the auto tragic tranny works well, my two 242s have been M46s. Please paint her and get her back on the road. This one looks to be mostly all original. Enjoy your channel!

Really cool car. I hadn't seen a 242 before, I was aware of the Bertone ones but this is really cool. Love the big turbo badges. My parents had a 240 estate in England back in the 90s. I think restore to best would be cool. Have a subscribe, looks like u love your volvos! I finished an 8yr classic mini resto last yr

I say you paint it, manual swap it, and put the MS from the red wagon on it to make it into a track day car.

That goes well with whats planned for the red wagon :)

Great find Dean! My favorite 240. Interested to see which way you go either keeping the old kjet system or going for efi. Manual swap in the works, too?
@DeanofMachines9 ай бұрын
Have all parts for manual swap. Have not decided on if the kjet stays. I just want drivability.

I was hoping the same. Nothing like 3 pedals for driver involvement. Greetings from Australia. The 242GT is a very rare beast down here.

@@benspencer9523 Helloo from the US! Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I'm assuming the 242 is more rare there than it is here. Did you get the 242 turbo and 242gt as separate models?
@benspencer95239 ай бұрын
@@DeanofMachines we didn't get the turbo at all Dean. Although I have seen one for sale with the correct turbo set-up that the owner had imported from Europe. Dean, find yourself a little time and Google Robbie Francevic and or John Bowe Volvo Group A touring car. These two changed a lot of perceptions about Volvo with a " typical " Ford or General Motors fan Down Under with their extraordinary feats in the flying brick. I know, as I was a Holden fan as a kid, probably only because my father had a succession of Holden taxis. To this day, some 40 years later I'd still happily own one but due to their scarcity down here they are not cheap. Currently on our biggest National car selling site there are only two for sale. It's Carsales if you're interested in the market here in Oz Dean. Take care and have a great day.

I’m so confused 😮. Why is paint on the hood and trunk and roof looks like that?

Its because of sunlight. Lots and lots of hot bright sun.

Only the DL got the Bosch 5 panel tails after 1980 in the US market... GL, GLE, GLT, and Turbo all had the 6 panel Cibié lights, with the GLT and Turbo having black trim.

I nearly bought a black one with black leather interior and vinyl roof 3:48 a few years ago £650 was all they wanted for it , only thing was wrong the ecu used to get hot and you would have to let it cool down before you could start the car. So I passed on it ! Kicking myself now as they sell for thousands in the UK now.

So here's my vote: leave the sunburned primer patina, but buff the crap out of the car and call it Skunk. Patrick Dickman had a blue / primer striped patina 242 he called Badger. Skunk follows naturally! Plus it does have that "wet stank stink," so yeah.
@DeanofMachines9 ай бұрын
Ha! I’ll send patrick a message and ask him about it. I like the way you think!
@cfloren9 ай бұрын
@@DeanofMachines if you search TB for Badger in the title, you'll find a few threads from Patrick when his handle was "Group A." A lot of the pic links are broken but there's one in his FS thread. The car had primer stripes on the roof, but the hood was still blue. My memory is going...
@cfloren9 ай бұрын
And I have to correct myself now. It *did* have primer patina in its original coffin hood guise. But at some point he swapped to a flat hood with fresh blue paint.
@DeanofMachines9 ай бұрын
@@cfloren Funny that I have a similar situation. Now the question is do we flat hood it or do we rock it as is?
@ShawnTheGreek9 ай бұрын
To convert to flat hood, do you just need a new center grille?
