@@sdoken I'll answer this one! I watched this video because I wanted to know more about how to know more about myself and my own life. I have instituted some of the things spoken about due to reading 'eight dates' by John and Julie Gottman in 2018. I have also made a lot of life and personality changes as well during that time. My friendships have changed tremendously to where I adore the people I am with. Dating shifted because I am myself. I am on more dates and I'm not accepting just anyone. I have more fun, but I haven't found anyone who matches just yet, but I am never having the feeling of 'I am gonna be alone forever'. Logan knows her stuff, a lot of what she's saying is true in a lot of ways and can be organic. The advice that's like this allowed me to be my best self and changed my life.

The idea of independence is only relevant for the first part of your lives- your courtship and through your marriage. You will find you both change with time, probably after having children and also as your careers may change, too. After 2 1/2 years as a single guy, I've lowered my expectations to meeting a new woman once a month, which may lead to a date 3 times a year, with maybe 1 kiss per year and a hug once almost every month. I write 20 customized introductions per week, and I respond to every one who writes back. I realize the competition is intense, and since the 80/20 rule applies throughout all age groups and that perhaps a quarter of older women on line are really interested in an intimate relationship I accept all opportunities to meet new women. I do include in my profile comments that I have no parents, no children and no family members who require my attention and that I work flexibly when I want to, so that I do have time for a new relationship- and that being physically active is very important for me. It might take another 5 years, but I'll keep working on it...

The problem with this book and many like it, is it completely skips over the part about HOW to create AROUSAL in the first place. It assumes some arousal somewhere on the scale already exists. And the talks about the relationship. In my experience, if you learn the skills to create AROUSAL in a woman who did NOT have any towards you to begin with, the relationship part takes care of itself.

The question of should you accept someone just the way they are has two sides. If someone has moral failings or fears that are holding them back from being their best version of themself, should you try and change them: yes. Should you take a look at who they are from a Myers-Briggs level and try and ask them to be something that isn't in their psychological makeup to make them more compatible with what you want: no. It's kind of like raising children. You don't make them what you want but help them develop in a way natural to them. If that isn't good enough, you are with the wrong person or need to grow yourself.

What's frustrating is hearing "Go on more dates". Living in a small city in Sweden, I get one new person to "like" in Hinge per week. In average I get a "match" once a month (including all dating apps I'm on), of which I get a response on my first message in less than half of the times. Those I actually managed to go on a date with were simply, and trust me on this one, behaving anti-social. Truth is that I have a lot of great qualities, I'm successful, smart (especially emotionally), I have done a lot of interesting things to an extent that I am often, not that I make a deal of it because it's not important to me, 'a league above'. I could be the perfect life partner, but I am not given the chance and I guess I don't know how to take the chance either.

When we say, "I want to have a car, a house and a life partner to enjoy it with", it is a superficial want that we expect to check off on our list, and start chasing in life. However, when we say, "I hope to be able to build a rewarding personal and professional life by becoming great at my work and relationships, and by becoming a good life partner", we add a value of intentionality to it by being what we majorly seek, and thereby inviting the sought after, instead of chasing or totally giving up on finding those who gel well with us and may be good long term partners, but may not be packaged acc to our expectations. In any case, most of us with high standards, protect ourselves from mistakes by either doubting others or our own feelings towards them, and kill any prospect of having a relationship. I think we need to get out there, have realistic expectations and open mindset, and a chilled behaviour, without "seeking" the one, but rather allow relationships to grow or not organically.

Reading the biography of the interviewee in the New York Times, "Logan Ury Says You're Dating All Wrong," it seems possible that there is nothing men can do in many circumstances. It's up to the woman to pick who is in her friendship circle and signal interest. Nothing the interviewee's future husband could have learned could have possibly compensated for being 5-8 until the interviewee changed her attitude towards what was acceptable to her for a potential date let alone potential partner. That's what the New York Times article seems to say.

Should be renamed: How To Settle For Someone. Reality is, ppl know that they will have to end up settling for. Their ideal either doesnt exist or what they want is beyond their reach. So we do a magic trick on ourselves and tell ourselves that this person is awesome, the one, my true love. But its just the minds way of coping with the reality that it may not be able to do much better (Look up Dan Gilbert and Positive Bias). There should be a sequel to the book called 'How To Die Alone'. We should never ever play ourselves or other ppl, wasting one anothers time and bringing other ppl into it i.e children, which seems to just be open season for ppl. All my friends are in long term relationships and you see the numbing effects, the going through the motions, the neediness, the resignation and the empty air from both participants mouths. They indulge in the same old platitudes their parents did i.e talking about work, kids, finances, errands, all a big wash of dog shit, just to feel a sense that they matter, that they are significant in the others eyes. But its lies and quiet desperation as the alternative, being alone, a sense of being unloved (very few couples actually know the depths of love), is too harsh too traumatic. If we were to remove the term love from relationships we would quickly see that its anything but love. We would see that our relationships are ordinary and, if anything, kinda ridiculous. Love merely attempts to elevate something odd, problematic and ordinary into something cosmic and beyond our comprehension. What others see clearly we cant in these situation, I say this after many years in various relationships and dealing with other ppls relationships such as friends and family. On a positive note, many Gen Z and Millenials are settling for less and less, marrying less and less and divorcing more and more. Regarding relationships we are sobering up the realities far more and accepting of the fact that one may have to end up alone should they want to live an authentic, sincere life.

There is a saying. "If you want to learn how to catch fish you ask a fisherman. You don't ask the fish." The same holds true for dating despite all the arguments you will get pushing back by the fish.
