"If all I had to do was lose weight.." is a statement that negates obesity as an actual disorder. People don't understand that the reasons for being obese are medical ones. If it was so easy to lose weight, obesity would not be a big issue. People are obese for various reasons but it's rarely because they wake up and decide to be 600 lbs. Usually there are deep seeded psychological issues or food addiction or an eating disorder at play. People just assume that all fat people can just change like it is so easy but when you are so obese your body and hormones change making it very difficult to overcome and many would rather just live with it than keep fighting.

I was an obese kid raised in a household of unhealthy eating habits on both extremes. My mother raised me to be ashamed of eating, and obviously I developed an eating disorder. Seeing the interactions between Tiffany and her son is striking to me because it’s such a positive, healthy relationship. To hear her supporting him in his future, to truly wanting what’s best for him, to taking a life-threatening route to secure a place in that future, it’s truly just so packed with love. Then him being able to laugh and open up around his mother with healthy boundaries (“what girl you like?” “That’s confidential”) man. Heartwarming. I hope they’re doing great nowadays.

My background is in psychiatry, but I don't think I have ever seen so much denial in my life. For Diane to think that her weight should just be accepted is nonsense. She must have had severe medical issues. But she just didn't see it as a problem. I think she had given up. The fellow doing competitive eating and being proud of it has just admitted he has no meaning in life apart from eating. Only Tiffany had any motivation to get to a normal weight and I hope she has been successful. But what a tragedy for everyone else.

@Ryasyd5 жыл бұрын
@@aritheplebian Started in summer 2018 I weighed in at around 290lbs* (my estimation I didn't start keeping track until I started noticing a significant difference in the way my clothes fit). I stopped getting my period and was generally grossed out by my own reflection. I had pcos symptoms (acne, facial hair, weight gain) it was really effecting my self esteem and health in general. So I looked up diets or hacks that might cure pcos and found keto on youtube and google. I lost my first initial 60 lbs in a matter of 5 or 6 months because I was very heavy and have steadily been losing weight with moderate exercise and portion control since. I reversed all my symptoms with sensible food choices. I have my moments where I overeat but I have managed to completely change my lifestyle and outlook on food. I try and stick to low carb but if I take a break I need to be sensible about my food intake. But I usually notice some creep back on. I've started going to the gym recently in addition to at home workouts on youtube (@rachelaust) I feel amazing healthy and happy these days. Loving yourself makes a world of difference. Which includes being honest with yourself. If I tell myself I'm doing good when I'm binging or overindulging then I'm only setting myself up to fail. I'm a food addict so every day I have to make sure I'm eating the right things in the right amounts. Which got easier as I adjusted my lifestyle to fit with good food and fitness. For the first time since early childhood I'm not obese! so losing weight was probably the best decision I ever made. Obesity causes a whole slew of health issues that I wasnt ready to have at only 22. And for the first time since jr high I'm in single digit pant sizes and weigh in the low 160s. I try not to weigh myself too much (I have a series dedicated to that on my channel) but I'm taking a break to get my mind right because it is actually very draining to focus so much on the number. Nowadays I'm focusing on health. 🖤 tl;dr : I was sick and gross so I looked into losing weight to feel better about myself and managed to do so with keto, gym, youtube workouts, water, healthy mindeset.

It's the sugar and seed oils. Italians eat lots of carbs, olive oils, meats. Which some consider unhealthy, but really they're not. American's food culture is high fructose corn syrup fried in soybean oil. I go to the grocery store and foods you wouldn't typically think to have added sugar, does. Bread, peanut butter, oatmeal, "breakfast" foods that are basically dessert. Bacon, baked beans, canned fruit and soups, sugary yogurts and milks, sauces (like pasta sauce), dressings, crackers, smoothies, and of course, flavored coffee. Don't even consider Starbucks, everything is a sugar bomb.
@quantitativediseasing99885 ай бұрын
@@Bloxicorn Last June I cut carbs to a minimum, like maybe 25g per day. I'd already cut the sugar right down but wasn't losing much weight. However, after cutting the carbs I went from 12 st 9lbs to 9 st 12lbs in 9 months (177lbs to 138lbs for the Americans; the Europeans can convert it to kilos because I don't deal in silly measurements even though I can do both). Carbs are converted by the body into glucose but because so many carbs are eaten the body doesn't burn the glucose; instead the liver deals with it and stores it as fat. This why exercise has little effect on weight. There is so much excess glucose in the boldy from the carbs, it is used for energy. If you cut the glucose right down your body will start burning your excess fat for energy.

Dianne spends an extensive amount of time defending her position/situation. Okay fine, we all have rights. But what if we (the community) forced her to become fully independent. That is take away the personal care giver, remove the food delivery service, remove the oxygen supply, etc. She would expire in 24-48 hours.

GageyyBoyy Family history in health is often given exaggerated importance. Most health problems, like weight, cancer, etc. are behavior/environmental, not genetic, but people tend not to ignore this, maybe out of fear or guilt. The hardest problems to face are self-inflicted. I work in medicine, and one time a patient with severe COPD, from smoking, was extremely tearful about their diagnosis and hospitalization. The next day, they were upbeat, and mentioned that they remembered that in their early 20s they worked in a factory with strong smells, and THAT must of damaged their lungs (not the subsequent 40 years of hard smoking).
@benjiblondie58655 жыл бұрын
There's a genetic disposition to gain weight faster and have heart and health complications, but yeah it's not excuse. It should be a motivator.
@Misskitty19815 жыл бұрын
GageyyBoyy not everyone can lose weight like others. Maybe try to understand that we aren't the same, many have hipper active thyroid that is a big problem for people to lose weight. I grew up in Texas. Even though this video is several years old, nothing has really changed. I see all levels of denial in my family. I've pushed for healthier choices within my family but they don't care. They consider themselves "thicc", "heavy boned" or "eating good" when in reality they are sick, obese or morbidly obese. There's a warped sense of health, much like the first woman who didn't see herself as obese. My father didn't see the problem with having mobility issues. He didn't see the problem with not being about to walk very much or fit on an airplane. My siblings catered to him. He was on all sorts of meds to keep his blood pressure, diabetes, and failing kidneys in check. He even lived with me for 3 months (overseas) and lost weight with simply taking his meds as prescribed, eating proper meals and being forced to walk 4 times a day. He use to say it was the trip of a lifetime and he couldn't wait to travel more. But as soon as it was all up to him, he would stop taking his meds, eat double what he should and joke about eating a whole package of oreos or donuts in a sitting. And guess what, he's dead. Dead because of the choices he made even though he knew exactly how to live a better life. And after all of it, he died alone - and we are left to live with that pain.

Go to ALL YOU CAN EAT buffets at any Golden Corral in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas/ Ft Worth or Corpus Christi on any weekend and you will see what this is all about. Its called GLUTTONY. This video is no joke. I moved to Colorado not long ago and so far havent seen anywhere near the morbid obesity here that I did in Texas! The active outdoor life is much more of a thing here than it ever was in Texas Try being a NURSE in ANY health care facility there and you will see that it really is a problem no matter how often the obese ones desperately stay in denial. I have met Them....lots of them. Try being an EMT trying to load a desperately and emergently ill 600 lb person into a bariatric ambulance after taking them down a flight of stairs. Or try being a surgeon contemplating doing vital emergency surgery on the same patient knowing as he/she does the huge risks involved with a supersized morbidly obese patient....that is, if your OR Suite even has a surgical table large enough to accommodate an individual of this size
