On the Supreme Court decision? I don’t see how he was wrong… even several Supreme Court justices agree with him and made it pretty clear in their dissenting opinions. Just because they presented a united front with the decision absolutely doesn’t mean they all agree with the presented rationalisation. Even conservative Supreme Court judge ACB pretty much stated that they made the decision as they did to prevent political destabilisation; ‘this is not the time to amplify disagreement with stridency’… which is just ludicrous, and openly shows the Supreme Court making decisions based on the political climate rather than what’s actually correct.
@LordDTwigo2 ай бұрын
@matsab7930 Really? Is this the post hawk rationalization y'all are going with? Maybe it's something as clear as, I dunno, it's the actual letter of the law? But no, it's just political climate. It's not that somehow 9 SCJ all agreed on something which basically never happens. Regardless of the political climate. But this time. Yeah clearly that's what it is.
@kazekagekid2 ай бұрын
@@matsab7930dig one level deeper. the only thing all nine agreed on in this case was that states don’t have the power to decide federal insurrectionists for the purposes of fixing the ballot. this is a centralization tactic to gain/keep power with the federal gov’t as well as a panic button to stop all the red states from removing Joe from the race by saying he’s guilty of corruption or treason.
@matsab79302 ай бұрын
@@LordDTwigo which legal arguments did they make? They quite literally said it’s not the purview of this case to determine how exactly states can use the right Colorado claimed they had… We know the unanimous decision was motivated by the current political climate, even conservative justice Amy coney Barrett said as much. Furthermore, the metadata showed that at least 2 justices were originally planning on voting against. I don’t know why you would pretend this is a clear cut case when it’s anything but. The legal arguments the court used to justify their ruling was almost nonexistent. You can literally read their conclusion, and it’s brief to say the least; you say it’s just ‘the actual letter of the law’, but where is it written anywhere?? It literally isn’t… this is all novel legal arguments we’re witnessing being made.

1:00:00 The Trump administration significantly impacted the "Catch and Release" policy. Trump signed a memorandum in april 2018 ordering an end to the practice, the administration aimed to detain illegal immigrants until their court hearings, rather than releasing them into the U.S while they awaited their immigration proceedings. This was part of a broader effort to enforce immigration laws and secure the southern border. However, there were instances where the policy was not fully ended, and some migrants continued to be released. This was not entirely due to lack of space, several lawsuits were filed by state attorneys general, cities, and activist groups against policies such as the travel ban and efforts to withhold federal funding from sanctuary cities

Until it gets sooo bad than it's an issue and everyone is worse for it. Destiny has a few times done this. He has become soft edgy. He censors chat. With regards to the "Legitimacy of the Court" argument, I think it's actually important to consider in the current political climate. What happens when people realize they can just ignore the court? Like when the SCOTUS sided with Biden on the boarder back in January, and Texas essentially ignored it? THAT undermines the city more than anything else.

I find Destiny's opinion on the air Obama gave off during his presidency to be rather strange. I've been drifting slightly more conservative over the past ten years or so, though I still would consider myself center, center-left-ish in ideals on the whole, but I feel like I've got memories of Obama's presidency, especially his first term, the impression I had of him was much more personable and down to earth than the presidents I'd seen before him; that was part of why I'd voted for him both times. A combination of charisma, coming off as being genuine and earnest, and the fact that I saw him interact with a lot more people 'as a person', rather than as a president, than his predecessors. Y'know, showing up to events in just like a flannel or whatever and generally taking a casual tact with folks rather than being some unapproachable monolith. I definitely didn't get this 'stuck-up' vibe that Destiny's remembering. Maybe in his later years, post-presidency? Am I off-base here, or just misremembering stuff?
@The_ScapeGoat2 ай бұрын
Obama is famously arrogant. I don't want to just tell you to "look into it," but the dude's level of hubristic ego absolutely dwarves most politicians'. There is a quote of his saying [paraphrasing] that he is more knowledgeable in every area than every one of his advisors and cabinet.

I think it depends on your age and level of political awareness at the time they became president. Everything you said about Obama are things I remember about Clinton.
@MirroredDreamscape2 ай бұрын
@@thebristolbruiserThis is more or less what I was thinking might probably be the case if I was off on my read, the Obama cycle was the first time I was old enough to vote, so I was still looking at things from a fairly optimistic and at-face-value level and probably either not seeing or mentally rose-tinting things to a degree.

Obama doesn't seem arrogant to idiots, being personable is just part of what he was going for, anyone with a brain knows he is arrogant af, but to be fair hs is probably in the 1% of most competent people in the world.

My impression is that during his presidency Obama was normal, until the time Trump was about to win the election. From that point he really picked up the common arrogant democrat attitude and hasn't changed since then, maybe got worse

Destiny you miss the entire point about when a illegal commits a violent crime. It isn’t about the ratio of illegals who commit violent crime or how that ratio relates to the native born population. There is just something that feels different to people when someone who snuck in commits a violent crime versus someone who is born here. It’s like when you lose a game to the team vs when you lose because of something that’s out of your hands like tripping on a stick on the field or some shit. It just feels different. Not to bring up the trans in sports issue but it’s similar to when a team would lose to a traditional women’s team vs when you lose to a team with trans athletes. One just feels different (I am only comparing the feeling here I realize the sports analogy and immigration aren’t comparable).

Exactly, someone who shouldn't be in a place committing a crime is not like someone allowed to be there committing the same crime, one can only be punished while the other could've been EASILY prevented...

It is kind of an interesting question to consider... What is more important? The legitimacy of the supreme court, or its perception of legitimacy... When those two things conflict... Because the most legitimate thing would probably be disregarding the perception and following the letter of the law regardless of the political landscape and like in a sane country this would be very much in line with the perception of the supreme court's legitimacy... But then when you're dealing with a country as crazy as the US where like in the face of all evidence a ton of ppl still believe Trump won the 2020 election then the perception isn't necessarily going to follow the legitimacy... And without the perception of legitimacy, the supreme court kinda doesn't have much legitimacy at all really... But yeah, I think personally I'd rather a supreme court that stays true to the law as it stands even if it gets discarded rather than a supreme court that just pretends like the law isn't what it clearly is in order to have its perspectives acknowledged more...
