Just want to say thanks for the very helpful videos. I’m pretty mechanically inclined (construction for a living run heavy equipment) I’m building a house and it’s not the money it’s getting people to do the work for a reasonabl price and within a reasonable time. I’ve done everything except insulation, and plaster. Wanted to hire someone to paint but they were outrageously priced and they didn’t go into detail like you. So I decided to watch more of your videos. Bought a Graco sprayer and did it all myself. The woman who is helping me design also sells paint for a living and said she has never seen anyone that paints for a living do as good of a job as I did. I owe it all to you you’ve guided me through the whole process any question I have you have a video for it.

I usually recommend new painters roll in the direction of the metal part on the cage. Reason being there's usually more pressure applied there with the added frame weight so they're more likely to leave ropes if inexperienced. Love the videos, been painting 10 years - most of that union and still learn something new from time to time.

Nice coloration too. The walls look fairly smooth. Important to note: the roller needs to be a non-textured sponge. The feathery sponge rollers are more likely to leave textured paint on the wall. The more firm sponge roller will leave it looking smoother. I notice that nobody ever uses a squeegee roller, which definitely works best for evening wet paint.

Even high end lower voc paint dries so fast it seems impossible to keep the edge wet with one person painting. Thanks for sharing your expertise
@meskobe2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you may be trying to roll and cut in all at the same time? Extremely difficult to maintain all wet edges that way. I recommend doing all of one (rolling or cutting in/backrolling), and then waiting until it fully dried to do the other. The key is to NEVER paint into a partially dried area. As long as whatever you did first is completely dry, the blending should be invisible when done. In certain situations, if I find myself approaching a partially dried edge, I just stop an inch away from it. Then later when everything's dry, you can roll over the small gap between the edges.

Thanks for sharing these tips. The benjamin moore advance paint i was using that frustrated me was replaced by the store as it was drying to the touch in7 min. They thought it may have frozen or sitting on a cold truck too long. Im done with BM ( except for their aura bathroom paint which was great…at $75 a gallon!)as they replaced it with same batch numbers after admitting this. Advance leveled on a new poplar door great. Regal semi gloss was the worst and looked like a wet finish when dried , roped, flashed, etc. . Im not a pro just a DIYer who always used pro classic trim paint in the past. Cheers

@@meskobe that's the smartest painting reply I've ever read! I have a question for you? Does it matter to cut in first or roll first. I I personally think the halo effect is caused by not using enough paint when cutting in. And could also be by the person rolling,not going past the cut in edge to blend everything. Like you said as long as it's completely dry and feathered out it should be fine.

I agree that there are really no one-coat paints. There are however one-coat situations, where the desired results can be obtained in one coat. Most professionals and discerning homeowners would not be satisfied with the overall quality one coat gives. Therefore, as a professional who aims to please, its better to plan on applying two coats.

I hear the bher i300 touches up really nice,the eggshell is more like a flat,covers very well,from my limited experience with it.

I'm getting tiny spots of the original paint color (yellow) showing through the new paint (grey). I'm using 1/2" Purdy rollers, two coats, orange peel textured walls. Any suggestions?
